  • The Talking Harps team published the first Harp Connections interview in March 2021. We have since published 36 interviews with harpists around the world to share their stories, tools, and music with our audience. We are sharing stories of connections to celebrate two years of the Talking Harps project.
Heather Downie ( / @heatherdownieharpist , who first appeared on Talking Harps in September 2021, was referred to us by one of her former students Sam MacAdam. Heather also taught a number of other Talking Harps guests at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland including Babett Niclas and Lucie Hendry.
Keziah Thomas ( / @keziahthomas47 ) introduced to us by Eleanor Turner, and her interview was published just as Talking Harps turned two in March 2023.
Both Heather and Keziah are spoken highly of by those who know them, and it was easy to understand why!
A number of Heather’s students - including a Talking Harps audience who is a member of Heather’s learning platform - told Victoria how much they enjoy studying under Heather.
Keziah is the founder of “Retreat to the Harp” and “Little Harp Social”, both programs provide a supportive group learning environment for adults and are very well attended.
Heather and Keziah share a common love for the harp and a genuine passion for teaching. As learners of a relatively uncommon instrument, the Talking Harps team appreciate their passion for making quality harp instructions accessible.
Victoria discovered that Heather and Keziah knew each other when Keziah performed a concert in Heather’s “How To Harp Membership” recently. Heather was a guest tutor at “Retreat to the Harp”, and she will be joining Keziah again at the Retreat’s Charney Harp Weekend in July 2023. Victoria thought it would be amazing for Heather and Keziah to record a piece music together for Talking Harps’ second birthday. The perfect opportunity came up for the pair when they went pedal harp shopping for Heather!
Heather choose and arranged a Charlie McKerron tune called “Fionn’s” to play with Keziah. Together they sampled a selection of Camac harps, including the Canopée Concert Grand and the Elysée Concert Grand in this video. Heather decided on the Canopée that she played on. She named the harp Flo and she is looking forward to adding pedal harp contents to her “How To Harp Membership” in the future.
The joy and laughters that Heather and Keziah shared in this video remind the Talking Harps team that harp time with friends is indeed the best!
