Since I have been following you through the years I keep a spiral bound 4 x 6 index card book on the kitchen table and it’s my garden diary , 1 new one for each season. I use it to take notes from your row by row show as well as RUclips videos and then before I go to bed at night I write down exactly what I did in the garden that day. Travis got me started with that and I’m so glad for it! Like you I’m getting older so things keep slipping out of my memory!
My 2022/2023 fall garden note book just got started tonight with this show.

I’ve been growing a little garden for years, yet I never heard of growing fall vegetables until this year. I thought once my growing summer season was over I never planted anything after that, so I’m excited to hear what people plant for fall.

I am trying to micro manage my garden now. It is hard! My wife and I tried 5 acres. We are down to 5000 square feet. I have been gardening my whole life, since I can remember!. Start small and see what works. We are reworking our gardens. Our pantry is full, but we don't know everything yet. Keep doing what you do, I watch garden channels because I think other people have the same problems I have. Raising your own food is not an easy thing! Proverbs tells us that a man too lazy to plow shall not eat. Mathew tells us that God feeds the fowls of the air., and that foxes have dens and the birds of the air have nests. Sadly, the son of God had no place to rest his head. Keep teaching people to eat.

The one reason everyone should try to grow vegetables is that it is definitely not easy. You appreciate so much what you get when you sort through all the birthing pains each year! In the end, treat it like an ever changing learning experience and focus on your successes along the way!

@@gardeningwithhoss That salsa Verde that your wife made is an acquired taste but once you acquire it it’s absolutely worth it! Try taking some chicken thighs in your slow cooker putting a bottle of that salsa over the top and cook it for 6 to 8 hours and then make tacos out of it. It is absolutely delicious that way! My son roasts his tomatillos on the barbecue before he makes Verde it adds a nice smoky flavor. He’s the one I’m trying to grow those for. It’s the only plant in the garden so far that has me beat!

What is difficult, if you go by growing zones... I am in the same zone as you, but my first frost date is actually... usually... next year... We get cold, but don't freeze until February. I am also in the long day onion zone. When we start getting cold is never easy to figure out, so half the time, I plant stuff, but it gets cold, and stuff never has a chance to grow full out, before it gets too cold to grow... On the other side, I plant stuff in spring, but we never know when the warmth will come.. Then it is just a heat wave, right after the cold.. Can be 60 degrees one day, and 90 the next... So all the brassicas go to seed. I am looking for veggies that can handle the short heat waves and short cold waves... My tomatoes and peppers are barely starting to produce this year..

So far my planting plans for fall are on track with your recommendations. I'm going to give brussel sprouts a try this year for something different. Now if the weather will cooperate a little. Also I did start keeping notes on my PC this year so I will have something to reference later. As to summer squash, I tried Smooth Criminal this year and it has done fabulous. No disease so far (still hanging on from spring in zone 8A) and no pests so far which is unusual for us. Probably twice the number of fruit as other varieties I've grown. You can also stake it and it will grow straight up with no problems. The old goat is on the 3rd shelf behind Greg and behind the orange watering can and small tomato bunch.

Greg, I want to grow a few cabbage. Same zone as you. When can I plant and can you recommend any that I can plant in a raised garden? Love y'all 🥰

Any of those we talked about can also be planted in raised beds.

Greg, can you tell me why my indoor tomato seedlings drop leaves while they're young?

Could be caused by too much watering, or damping off caused by bacteria

Old Goat is hanging out behind the cherry tomatoes by the really pretty orange water can. How can I get a can like that?

Greg, can y'all do a segment on growing strawberries, zone 8, I don't know anything on that, is that a plant you pull at the end or do those go for multiple years?

    Love your show.
    Question....I'm in zone 7
What kinds of flowers do you suggest planting in my fall garden?
I grow a lot of vegetables but not many flowers. You all have inspired me to di more fall gardening.

Calendula is great in the fall and you can use it for salve.

I missed the corny joke tonight :) I'm in 8b Texas and I personally love the fall garden best. I grow better tomatoes due to lesser weather challenges typically. This year looks like an exception. No rain or end in sight to our over 100 days. Love green magic broccoli but going with your recommendations this year and gonna try twister TOO! love trying different varieties and staying flexible. Thanks for a great show

The old goat is on the stem of the watering bucket or on the tomatoes? Hard to tell on my tablet!

You didn’t cover what kind of carrots are good for zone 9. Are you doing it next week?

In a few weeks. We would recommend the Olympus or if you have rocky/clay soil the Hercules

The 4 inch cabbage sounds ideal. Godzilla is an excellent name for the broccoli ! The old goat is behind the cherry tomatos.
