    I’m also not interested in adding a Burberry trench coat to my wardrobe, but always appreciated the legacy and history of the brand. Also the craftsmanship and design of their original products. Great video though. Very interesting & informative.

    These two trench coats are from different lines so I’m not sure they’re comparable. The older one is Burberry Brit which is a designed to be targeted to a younger market with a lower price point and more ‘fashion’ features. The newer one is from the Heritage line. The traditional trenches are all gabardine

    • @adrielfelise
      @adrielfelise  7 месяцев назад +4

      Yes they are from different lines. However, when I was shopping for my first trench way back when in the Burberry store, the little details on the coats (ie belt buckle materials etc) were the same. As such, the coat we chose was solely based upon fit. Do you remember the fall 2019 runway collection with its incredibly creative take on the traditional trenches? I saw it on display while I was in New York for the new opening of Nordstrom. It was fun, a little controversial, but even the most controversial pieces (the bomber trench mix) were impeccably made & the small details were intoxicating. It’s a little sad that those details have been lost over the years.

      Exactly what I thought… The Heritage Coats always had these leather buckles and fabric, no button on the back…

    Hi Adriel any suggestions on where in Paris I would find a vintage Burberry trench? I’m visiting soon and would like a heads up on where to look.

    • @adrielfelise
      @adrielfelise  7 месяцев назад +8

      There are 3 places (1) Almost any vintage store in Paris will have a section; a good place to start would be Kiliwatch.
      (2) You can find them at brocantes. Just google“brocantes in Paris” for the days you are here and a list of where each brocante is in the city should be listed. Make sure to include 2024. A brocante is basically a flea market and you can find some real hidden gems.
      (3) You can also find them in the vintage section in Galeries Lafayette (if you don’t really want to hunt around vintage stores & brocantes); they’ll be a little more expensive but they have a huge rack of vintage Burberry trench coats in their vintage section.

    Great comparison.
    I bought my first Burberry coat at the Burberry Outlet that used to be in Primm, Nevada on the California border. A friend, her elementary-school aged daughter, but who is now mid-30s., and I jumped into the car and drove the long-haul there just to go to the outlet mall. and then a day in Vegas.
    The coat was black, almost ankle length, and had inner removable lining. The price was $500 plus an additional outlet discount. The coat kept me warm on annual spring trips to Paris as Paris is cold in the spring.
    I kept the coat until around 3 years ago and then sent it to resale. I also had another coat that was water-resistant, hooded, and short jacket length like a thick windbreaker style. That one I picked up at Burberry in Beverly Hills. I also sent that one to resale as I no longer needed that style.
    I have kept my total check-fabric shorter coat with a Burberrys label inside. There was a discount pop up place in Beverly Hills back in the 1990s, I think it was, and the coat was there. I paid in the $300 range for it. Now, it would be in the $3,000 range as I just saw a similar one online for $3,250. I also kept my black quilted-limited edition short jacket with black leather-trimmed pockets and a fuchsia limited-edition quilted one bought back in the early 2000s.
    My dream trench would be the Sandridge trench coat with the big patch-style pockets on the front of the coat and with a flap on each pocket with two snaps to close the pockets. I think I saw it online in 2022 and still have it bookmarked. But, Burberry prices have become scary.

      You scored the dream coats at the dream prices. I'm jealous. My dream Burberry coat would be the amazing coat I saw on this girl in London on the tube. It was stunning and I managed to sneak a picture of the back but not the front. The image of that coat lives RENT FREE in my mind. I think we're going to start to see a huge shift in Burberry where they start to mark up their prices like a lot of the luxury brands so, unfortunately, I think the prices may become even more scary.

    Great video.
    Personally, I prefer the look of the newer model. I find Burberry Brit too sporty and I think less hardware has a casual elegance that works well day to evening. I have a Burberry from the 60's or 70's that belonged to an aunt (it has the old Burberrys' label with the "s") and it remains in very good condition. It has leather buckles and the only metal is the prong in the buckle. It also has a sewn in tab on the inside below the knee that is used to button the lower section closed from the inside. Your newer coat looks a lot like my vintage one except my vintage one does not have a removable lining and it's quite heavy.
    That extra piece under the back of the collar is called a throat latch. If you unbutton and unbuckle the back section and rotate it to the front, you will be able to fasten it across your throat with the collar standing up around your ears and cheeks during inclement weather (you can fasten the metal hooks first). The throat latch lays over the front of the closed coat like a little bib. You refasten it at the back but coming around from the opposite side. My old vintage one has this signature feature as well.
    The leather buckles might not feel substantial because it is multiple layers of leather pressed together, rather than a hard base material covered with a bit of leather. The leather buckles should be quite malleable and lightweight.

    • @adrielfelise
      @adrielfelise  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for giving me the name for the throat latch!! It was vexxing me. However, even without the name, I feel like I may have been right - the throat latch will give me the James Bond look. Call me Bond - Adri Bond!!!

    I would never compare a Heritage coat with a Burberry Brit one…
    These are just different lines.
    The Heritage ones were always like this, with the leather and details…

    • @adrielfelise
      @adrielfelise  6 месяцев назад

      The issue isn’t that it has the leather etc, it’s that all the finishings feel cheap. The leather doesn’t even feel like leather - it feels like cardboard.

    Hello Adriel! About your old Burberry, just get a steamer and steam the daylights out of it. I actually washed mine by hand in the bathtub because the cuffs and hem were filthy. It took three days from start to finish. Do NOT fret if it loses a little color in the water. I used baby shampoo. Be sure to remove any removable lining. Do NOT dry it in the dryer. Use towels to blot out the excess water, and hang to dry on a heavy hanger. I padded the hanger with white wash clothes to keep the shoulder shape. After it dried, I steamed it, and used an iron with a press cloth to flatten the seams. That collar stand used to be standard in all Burberry trench. Voila! Perfect. Thank you so much for your fun videos, Adriel, you are a gem!!

    I have a few Burberry coats 🧥 - mostly Burberry kids trench and quilted coats and the old Brits collection in Nylon. My latest buy are Camden, cape trench (kids 14y+) and Kensington mid-length -- the cut of Kensington is more flattering on me and overall more aesthetic. Nevertheless, the kids collection is great if we are looking for the look of the classic trench!

I never imaged the European brands would go cheap & cheesy like many of the fast fashion brands here in the US. When I buy high end it is for the QUALITY not the LOGO or the Check pattern. I just hit the pause button. Hey is this usually included in Soldes? Pre-loved is a Great Idea! Thanks for the Alternative brands as well. 🤔❤👏🏽👗👙🕶👠👜🧤👖👕

    Gabardine are 100% cotton, and it’s water repellent because they do put a special coating on. Throughout years the coating will worn out. Reproofing is needed.
    The older one you have is Brit which is a polyester blend, that’s will it’s water proof. They are different material. Great choice for Kensington, I love mine.

    Congratulations on your new trench. I love how you look in the coat and enjoy it. Please DO NOT go back to the awful cleaners that look like they washed your Burberry Brit coat in water. They would destroy that beautiful Waterloo. As a Burberry trench collector, I bought several Heritage trenches such as the Kensington. Waterloo is lovely but that cut is supposed to be ultra-relaxed and a bit too loose-fitting for me. Actually, the Burberry Brit collection was the "affordable" coat collection under Christopher Bailey who left Burberry in 2017/18. The price point of the the Kensington back in 2017 was around $1,850 US while the Brit trench was under $1,000. I have about three Burberry Brit jackets and I will say they are made well, BUT, they were supposed to be hip and trendy with the metal detail and all. The Brit line was totally phased out many years ago and is no comparison to the Heritage trenches that have been around for a long time. As a gal who has four Kensington trenches bought over the past ten years, you have a great Heritage trench that is water resistant in the traditional gabardine that Thomas Burberry created in the 1800's. The buttons are not supposed to be plastic...they are horn buttons that are supposed to be from animal horn and will not break in a pesky Metro turnstyle. That belted looking detail on the back of your collar is intended to keep your collar up when you pop your collar so it wont fall in rainy weather. Sorry for the long message but it's obvious I love Burberry trenches. I hope you will buy another coat to add to your collection one one day. *I am now a subscriber!
