Oooo man this episode! I remember watching this for the first time, i seriously thought they were gonna go with the whole misunderstanding that magnus was gonna “cheat” and the moment Dot kissed him Alec was gonna come through the door and see them together and it was gonna cause all this drama, typical storyline and even more so because magnus is Bi. I was soo pleasantly surprised because they didn’t do that and go for the obvious, it shocked me lol it just goes to show that magnus is one of a kind! and that magnus is actually causing Alec to start to question the orders and stand up for his beliefs and what’s right. Jace was in a tricky situation, he so desperately wanted to be accepted by his grandmother, going from thinking your parents are dead to being a sudo lightwood then thinking your a morgenstern, only to find out your a Herondale (really powerful shadow Hunter family with the only person left is Imogene) in the end I think he realized he wasn’t cut of for being the institute head. I also did not like the whole Jace and Maia thing, seemed out of the blue to me and just weird. I think they were trying to do a enemies to lovers type thing lol I do remember this big controversy because all Malec gotten at this point Is a Fade to Black/ cut scene when they had their first time and almost every single other couple and non couple have gotten actual scenes where they are more intimate or where they are in bed together, it was definitely a wait a minute why are they the only couple being excluded, especially when they would release sneak peaks and clips and they would use them to tease the next episode! But let’s just say they fixed that problem in later episodes lol so you do have that to look forward too 😉 also sorry didn’t mean to write this much oh well 😬
I thought that at first too and I'm so so happy that they didn't because Magnus has never struck me as the type to 'cheat', so I would've been really sad about that! I do understand that for sure, but with how Jace has always acted, I was so annoyed that all of a sudden now he's going to start doing everything the Clave wants because they say so when he was the one least likely to do that originally. Overall, I'm thrilled that Alec is the new head!! I'm so happy the Jace/Maia thing didn't continue, I would not like that at all! Ooooh, you make a good point about that, I can see how that would stir up some controversy for sure! I'm glad to hear that they fixed it and I'm excited, but also scared for that because I'm gonna lose it 🤣
whew this episode was a heavy one... i enjoyed that they finally took the racial allegory out of subtext and into the text which also really brought to light the intense divide between how the older generation and newer generation of shadowhunters are doing things. alec standing up to imogen was
yesyesyesyes, everything yes, you said it best!! also, I can get behind the alleyway hookup a little bit now that I know it was just that. In the moment, I was thinking they were making it a thing- now that I know they didn't, I don't hate it as much now, still not my fave but I can live with it! 🩶

Your reaction to Jace being the head of the institute is so funny. Especially because in the books, we was never the head. He was for a week, in the place of his parents, but after Maryse retired, Jace got the job. Alec was very clear with the fact that he did not want the possition, that he wanted to keep working on the alliance he had built with a group of downworlers, and unless he was offered a higher job, like inquisitior or consul, where he could change the law more easily, he would continue with the job. Jace was nervous about getting the job, because he's not a leader, Alec is, so he and Clary chose to take it together! Also about the Dot thing- two fun facts, in the books, Dorothia was an older woman, who's adoptive mother was a warlock, and taught her a bit of magic. She was just a mundande old lady, and she dies in the first book. I'm shocked they kept her story going for so long. The second fact is that Dot revealed that she had a hard time filiming the scene where she danced with Magnus. She felt very fatigued by the end of the dance- and a few days later she found out she was pregnant! Which I think is very cute. As for the Maia and Jace "plotline"- idfk where the idea for that came from. But it was over quickly which is what I am thankful for. Also your face when Alberto began to sing

@@ryannrodkey5669 I think it makes sense with Alec's character in the show, and Jace's for that matter. Not to mention the way they decided to have the inquisitor there. I think with what happens in the finale, it all ties together quite well. But that's all I'll say about that ;)
This is another one of my favs to rewatch :). Pretty self contained (despite being influenced heavily by everything else), and, I don't know, I just vibe with all the drama for some reason :D. Especially because we get people telling Jace's grandma off lol. But for a second I just have to talk about Magnus's oufit because I have to. When Alec shows up to get the hair he specifically points out that Magnus is looking dressed up (like season 1, as is said in the bloopers lol). And he says he was bored. But, the way I see it (and even if it's never been explicitly said, I know other people say this as well), it's a coping mechanism. It is something he enjoys, but it's also something that hides his pain from everyone else. It's a cover-up. Sometimes Magnus has more dramatic/fancy looks just for fun, and that's great :). But there's several times where you see him use it as a shield, a wall, and it's SO cool to see. I don't know, I just adore it. Anyway! I agree, Alberto is a great singer and that song is a BOP! Also, I'm so glad they didn't play into the cheating bisexual trope with Magnus - our boy's better than that :). I feel the fear though xd. Also, I like that for once Luke explicitly puts the down worl first. It's not that he doesn't or shouldn't care about Clary, but usually he sacrafices other things for her. Here he knew what was needed, and Clary did too. She was completely on their side. Idk, I just like it :). And of course, the various opinions of the downworlders on the DNA testing. Simon won't because of his family and their history, Luke will because it doesn't bother him and he just wants to get it done (also, he was a Shadowhunter), Magnus will but begrudgingly (and he's seen the same things Raphael has, so I imagine he feels that way too), and iirc Raphael won't because he knows they didn't do it (haven't seen it in a litle bit so I don't quite remember his answer). Everything influenced by their individual experiences and it's one of the many reasons I find this episode so cool. Also, Izzy slayed so hard this episode :). Same for Maia. And of course we love Alec being institute head :D. Last rant I promise lol, I do find the line "I'm dating a downworlder who's a guy" (roughly that) from Alec interesting. Because Maryss says in season 1 that Magnus being a guy isn't her worry, but in the books (from my understanding - never read them lol) Shadowhunter society is fairly homophobic. It only gets brought up a few times in the show, so I find the times it does interesting :). Obviously it's not good, but it does show us a side of the Shadowhunters we don't think about often (because the racism towards downworlders is more prevalent in the show, and because all of the characters we interact with are cool with everything). Okay this comment got SUPER long, I got rambling xD. Lastly, yeah. I think we all hate Jace and Maia xd. As an actual couple that is. I did kinda go :/ at the hookup but it's just ehw for me lol. Yes I loved seeing the downworlders reasoning behind why they didn’t want to DNA test- I thought it was super eye-opening!! And agree totally with Magnus’ outfits and looks sometimes being a shield! Such a cool detail for his character! You make a great point, I never really thought about Alec stating that he’s dating a guy after Maryse said that that wasn’t a problem 🤔 very interesting indeed! 🩶
im liking maia more and more in this ep!! I love her standing up for herself and she was totally in the right for being angry and punching jace in the face she’s a queen tbh learning more about simons family and to have jewish representation on this show is so nice simon not be able to see clary was absolutely ridiculous I hate shadowhunters and their discrimination against downworlders & also trying to chip all downworlders like they are just pets it made me so angry it was nice at first seeing jace get to learn a little about his parents but his actions very much pissed me off this ep, I get wanting to impress your grandmother and be on her good side but you can’t sacrifice your morals for that and you should always do what’s right I love clary telling him “if you weren’t a herondale she would be locking you up too” iconic side note it was really cute to see alec there when clary woke up, add that scene to my clary/alec besties agenda hate hate hate that alec and magnus had this fight, as magnus I would be completely offended and annoyed and upset so I lean more towards his side 100% & dot what in the world are you doing trying to kiss magnus I knew magnus wouldn’t do it & I love your reaction to that so much lol though you should check out some videos of harry shum jr dancing he is incredibly talented!!
