Quick tip for tutorials, explain every word, specially in the first one, many might not know what you mean when you say "air time" or "full speed", those are not really "hard" terms and most are pretty easy to understand, but making sure everyone knows exactly what you mean is important in tutorials

Thanks for the tutorial, they're really helpful for a newbie like me. For feedback I think it'd be nice to explain some mechanical things like the 'tippy taps' for speed sliding (how fast am I supposed to tap or how can I tell that it's working). What a great video! I am currently "coaching" a friend of mine who has never played Trackmania before and I will definitely send him this video right after I finish this comment. You're doing really good explaining the optimal lines, but what I think would help even more to bring your point across and visualize what you are talking about, would be a tool that let't you draw on your screen. That way you could just paint in what you are talking about while you explain it. As a long time Trackmania enjoyed myself, I can perfectly understand the little tricks and lines you are explaining but I think someone with absolutely 0 experience might have a harder time imagining what you are trying to teach them. With this little detail you might help even more people getting started and enjoying this amazing game than you already do. Keep up the great work!!
I cant wait for more videos like this one! I recently started playing after watching your videos and streams for a pretty long time. I'm pretty sure I get the correct racing lines a lot of the time, but I just don't quite understand the inputs for the more technical stuff like drifts. This tutorial helped me a lot and I actually improved my time on 04! Thanks for your awesome content! :)
I want to say thank you as someone who doesn’t play but likes to watch. Being shown the nuance of what you’re considering helps me better appreciate your videos.
This video is super helpful, the only thing I would love to see on top of it would be some drawn in lines when you are explaining racing lines. This would make it much easier to visualise what you mean when you day things like 'this line would take you into the outside wall' ( 5:45 ) . adding in some arrows or lines would make it easier to see what you mean when you are talking about racing lines and corner setups. Love the video, looking forward to more like it as a beginner player.
"So many new players gettint into the game" in a big part thanks to you man, I watched your videos for a long time now and just last week decided to give it a try thanks to you.
Wow, I would have probably never thought to drift those corners. I would have just taken it as full speed. I'm a beginner player doing decently. I learned a lot by watching your videos and trying to understand why you do things. A video like this helps a lot thanks!!
Really appreciate this video! Reminds of some concepts I learned in TMNF years ago. Nice to see how they apply here, somethings I already learned in your content but had a hard time learning and doing them in the last campaign. Maybe I can give it another shot with your tutorials. I really believe they can help people and me improving in the trackmania and therefore having more fun! I'm really hoping there will be more tutorials with such good examples and maybe later more advanced techniques. Like gears for example. Maybe in that case a breakdown of the plug-ins you use would be helpful to better understand, where to get them and how to use them to get better times
As a sort of new player who watches lots of vids on trackmania, i realized theres quite a lot of essential knowledge thats pretty hard to come by / get explained. The way you analyze maps and make decisions for what is faster is super helpful, would love to see more in the future for more advanced maps. Also, a thing that i find myself struggling with is knowing what lines are faster on certain ground types (most notoriously grass / plastic). More info on ideal steering angles / the weird plastic highground acceleration would be great too
I never played trackmania but I'm considering playing it since I first saw you videos a few weeks ago. I guess I should take this tutorial as a sign. Great content! Keep up your wholesomeness and relaxed style, love it!
I am a new player (32 days) and I really appreciate this! The Summer Campaign was awesome and I managed to get all golds (and some ATs) over the month. Yesterday I played the Spring campaign and actually got all golds in about 1.5 hours. ^.^ I am missing a singular gold in the Fall 2023 campaign right now (Track 21 by half a second). I have been watching you for YEARS and my goodness you make it look easy. It's not. I still have so much more to learn. Thanks for making this!!
This was the video that finally prompted me to actually look at playing. I enjoyed watching your yt and vods, but didn't think about playing. Then after watching I decided to check Steam and figured out it was free to play. Downloaded and using your tips have been collecting gold medals on the Fall campaign. 🎉 Thank you for posting and I'd love more tutorials.
Honestly I learned so much from this chill tutorial video cause you showed it several times and explained everything pretty good. Thanks! I Hope there will be more of those!
Been watching your TM videos for a long time without having touched the game. Randomly downloaded it last week to give it a wirl and this was the exact video I was hoping to find. Tips and tricks to improve time from the man himself. Cheers
These videos are going to be absolute bangers. Listening to your thoughts and patterns on how to approach maps is seriously interesting stuff. The only thing I would change about these videos is how you do the tutorialising. Perhaps a live tutorial on the thing you are doing (i.e. Speedsliding) but otherwise have it be pre-recorded footage that you can do as a comparison from an outside perspective. Like layering the replays to show the time gain from an absolutely perfect run. That way you don't end up stalling the video to get the perfect aerial jumps and speedslides, you have the videos or ghosts already set up. Looking forward to more of these!
Honestly, if this was your first tutorial, it was really good! It was well prepared, well explained, good pace of talking. Just really good. Bra jobbet!
Hope you continue this series. I'm at a point where I know most of the necessary mechanics, but I have trouble knowing when to utilize them. For example, identifying if a corner is a release, drift, or if I need to just full speed it. Or even in this fall campaign, when to ice slide and when to just drive it out. Obviously I can just check world record, but being able to identify these things while playing the map would be a good skill to have tips for if possible.
As someone as has played tmnf before and have played a bit of TM2020 and knew the concepts I liked this type of video and also made me think of the concepts u were talking about which I never thought about to get a better time, although I knew the concepts... I liked hearing your thought process thru a run :) I would keep this content up, I m sure it would help new players a lot, and also make people like me that have played TMNF or TM2020 and arent full experts either think or even learn stuff they didnt knew
For such a well-established game series, I have found concise well-condensed guides and information surprisingly difficult to come by for Trackmania, especially because it has a number of very opaque mechanics that provide very little feedback to the player. Looking forward to more of this series, I've been playing for a bit and this was still really helpful to me!
Only got started playing the campaign somewhat seriously. After watching your streams this format is the perfect link between seeing you crush ATs and trying to figure out how to do it in on my own.
I loved this video. Not too much information to overwhelm you, but still educational and very easy to apply. I think this will also make the game much easier and more enjoyable for the casual player base because it's just not possible to figure some things out on your own which can make chasing a certain time or medal very frustrating.
Loved this video, I played very little, just started casually watching your videos and started learning from there, but this is very useful for me!! I hope to see more of this in the future and learn how to beat those AT that rn are still so hard for me!!
16:30 My brain heard him say “At a first glance Trackmania might look like a racing game where you’re just, you know being a racist.” I always think about that clip with him 😂. I don’t know why I find it so funny.
Absolutely loved this! Started not to long ago, and the difference in drifts and setups is great to see, a tutorial with more maps would be amazing 10/10, will probaply watch again
I love watching Trackmania and Wirtual, and started Playing just 3 days ago, and was soo confused where to start from. And then Wirtual came in clutch .... Gr8 video, please continue making more like this
Been meaning to give Trackmania a try for a while now (played a bit of TMNF but no 2020), and this video pushed me to finally download it. I can safely say this video helped quite a bit. I was able to get Author Medals for 04 and 02, and it felt really good (especially 04's). Going for golds in general, and the most noticeable thing about finally playing this game is how freakin' hard it is, and how easy you make it look. I got golds without too much trouble until the bobsled map, and that took forever to finally get a gold on. Even prior to that though, it was clear how much optimization could be done at every level. The gold medals appear to be pretty forgiving, even into the red tracks, but one thing I noticed is they typically start off strong and then flub the ending. This is really smart, because it gives newer players something to follow along with, while still letting them get a gold medal without having to actually be better than the car they've been using to learn. Currently in the red tracks, and making progress. Pretty big step up, but I'm hoping I can at least get all golds to unlock the black tracks (and probably proceed to feel like I've learned nothing all over again). The game is super addicting, and finally giving it a shot has given me new found appreciation for how great you are at the game, as well as how much you've shown new players to make the game more accessible. This video is more direct about it, but you've always been good about explaining what you're doing and why, and so even just trying to get gold medals means new players can ignore all of the super advanced tech but still get a sense of how to maintain speed, reduce air time, and optimize pathing. Great stuff, and thanks for the awesome content!
I think this is very interesting, there are so many tiny things and details and techniques in this game that you could totally be the kinda “messenger” for. as an example I remember watching you play deep dip and there were so many tiny tricks that don’t necessarily help overall time saves on a lot of maps but are just helpful to know. I would love to have some videos on that kinda technical aspect of things
I have about 50hours in this Trackmania and never knew about speedslides and how to pull off decent drifts. Also, the tips on reducing airtime helped a lot. I feel like im gonna dominate the ranked lobbys now. Thanks!
I have always thought you would make great tutorial videos. This was a lot for one video but very well explained. I think videos tackling only one trick but more in-depth would also be amazing!
You'd think this woulda been a thing sooner but nonetheless grateful to see more educational content bout Trackmania. Your explanations were excellent as you detail how a first timer would experience the tracks while also providing information about stuff to help the player understand and improve and to understand why Trackmania players would think to do what they do when they race like not wanting to be in the air too long cuz you're losing time not accelerating that kinda thing. Keep at it, Wirtual.
Love this style of video and perfect timing since I just started playing the game and chasing after author times on the campaigns. Obviously since you said this is your first I know the videos will improve a lot and this one is already super helpful and informative to watch so I can’t wait for more videos like this! (I am currently stuck hunting the 15 sausage tech AT 💀)
I watched the first 5 minutes of the video, hoped back on the game and went from struggling to get gold medals to getting 4 ATs in a single session. So helpful !
Wirtual, I think something that would really help in these types of videos is post-edit lines that show up whenever you are talking about a racing line through a turn. Not only would this help a lot with explaining more complicated racing lines, it would also just make it a lot more clear in the first place what you are talking about and would really benefit visual learners.
I enjoyed seeing you mess up showing us some of these basic tricks to gain a faster time. It shows that even though they are "basic" even the best players still mess them up sometimes, and it shows how you corrected previous mistakes. I think a lot of tutorials leave out mistakes because they think it makes them look bad, leaving them out is really a detriment to the viewer
Sick! As a newish console player, I'm usually able to complete around 18-20 author medals in the newer campaigns (1st 18 of the newest campaign in a couple of hours last night before going to bed. Haven't attempted 19-25 yet). Honestly, as simple as it sounds, a drift tutorial would be great. I struggle to know when I should release acceleration and break for a drift or just hold break while also accelerating. I tend to release/break more often unless I'm familiar and comfortable with certain turns where I know I can keep holding acceleration. I'm pretty certain this is what costs me the most time. I also struggle to understand what causes the car to drift or not drift (aside from just having to hold the turn for a second or 2). Sometimes I expect a drift that never occurs, or vice versa. By trial and error, I've taught myself most of the things covered in this video, but I look forward to your more advanced tutorials.
Exactly all of this. I try to use drifts in techie stuff but I can never get a feel for how much is appropriate or if you're supposed to be lifting or staying full forward and for how long etc.
Love to see a tutorial series! I would also love to see a video on how to practice TM. How to get faster, how to get more consistent, ghosts on or off, how to learn different styles, that kind of stuff. Looking forward to seeing more videos like these!
I've been playing tm for a little so watching your streams has helped me improve, but i was thinking that the next tutorials should be more in depth on one thing rather than trying to hit all of them. For smaller stuff like airtime, airbrakes and drifts (like covered in this vid) it should be put together because they are the fundamentals, but "fancy mechanics" like bugslides, speedslides, neoslides, etc should have a probably smaller yet separate video describing things in depth. for example, the speedslide vid could be all about speedslides on every surface and the speedslide graph (like the one you've shown in prev vids. ex: chromas hell vid timestamp is 1:27) when you can start one and the list probably goes on. you could also probably talk about s4ds and stuff relating to it this was a great first tutorial though and ive been a fan for a little over a year now so i just wanna say good job with the content
I like how you show the process of not getting things perfect and working towards perfecting the tactic on each obstacle, which very few tutorial videos do. BUT I'd consider maybe cutting in the perfect example first, then going back to the process of getting there, because as someone who knows very little about the subject matter, it was hard to even understand exactly what you were getting at each time until you started having some better runs.
im getting into the game again after visiting tmn and tmnf for massive nostalgia hits. I love how many dimensions have been added by the community strategies and by the devs (like surfaces + new tiles). This is awesome. I would love more educational content. especially how to control ice. Im really struggling with the last Training Map #25. awesome video ❤ thx Wirtual
One day youtube decided that i need to watch your channel. Well, they were right! Without a single minute on any TM game, i spent a couple of hours here, and now i started Trackmania, but i struggle with things and still had trouble and couldn't finish last campaign. Thank you for the amazing content both for entertaining and for teaching things as well, hope you can keep this content coming!
Perfect timing, I just got into the game the other day! I've gotten every gold medal this season and somehow got one author medal but I haven't been able to get any other author medals and I know it's because I'm missing some hidden tech the game never teaches you, so I'm excited to watch your videos c:
Please keep making videos like this. I'm not sure how well it might do compared to your other videos but this is an excellent teaching tool to newbies and could really pop off if you end up continuing with a series
Even though there was some 'first tutorial' slip ups, it was still really detailed and a good representation from a new player POV, definitely keep doing these.
The funny thing is that Wirtual released his this video the day I finally decided to play trackmania after many years of watching Wirtual. I was really struggling to understand what to do. Thank you so much for this video! I rewatched it about 10 times by now
Good vid! What i missed when i tried to learn TM is like a glossary of all tricks & mechanics with examples (like you just did with speed slide and reduce air time)
I've watched a lot of your videos and always enjoyed them but never really wanted to play trackmania myself. This video made me want to play it though. Just to try the techniques and see if I can even be any good.
(4:14 and 6:40) When initiating the drift, the idea is to hold "full steer and accelerate" all the time, and then _add braking_. Do not let go of the accelerator, but hold right, hold brake, *and hold acceleration* all at the same time. For Wirtual, and indeed any Trackmania player, always holding the "gas pedal" floored is pretty much automatic, which is why he forgets to actually mention it and only talks about braking and steering, while the inputs displayed on the screen clearly show that there are three buttons pressed at the same time.
I like this conceptually, but I feel like it's too broad for its own good. Usually you wanna make content that appeals to everyone, but I've found in tutorial content, more niche topics tend to get that evergreen boost even more. If someone wants to improve on a dirt map for example, they're not gonna search, "HOW TO BE GOOD AT TRACKMANIA!" they're gonna search, "tips to drive dirt in Trackmania" Just a thought, love your stuff Wirt!!
I would say I’m an intermediate / new player as I can get all the authors on the campaign maps. As someone at this level I find trying to find the information such as when you can speed slide on all the surfaces hard to come by. I would love a video on some of the smaller things like this as it’s intimidating as a newer player.
This style with the few to no cuts and just an easy vibe is what made Gothamchess big. I'm looking forward to more of these!

Thank you for posting and I'd love more tutorials.
This timing is perfect. Been a fan of the channel for a year or two, but just downloaded the game a couple of days ago. Thanks!
Please do more of these videos! It really helped me get more consistent on this campaign.
Starting the educational/instructional series is such an awesome idea! thank you so much for this 😊
Was actually looking for tutorials yesterday, fantastic timing and keep 'em coming.
Cheers
Thank you so much for this. I've been getting into trackmania recently and wanting to push my self, I'm really looking forward to the advanced videos
It's not stalling it's showing him learn it because he didn't get it perfect, so you can play along
Hey Wirtual, I really like this style of content as someone who's just now getting into TM. Would love to see more in the future!
OK. This is great! I was looking forward for videos like this from you. Keep up the good work
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR LIKE 2 YEARS, THANK YOU
For such a well-established game series, I have found concise well-condensed guides and information surprisingly difficult to come by for Trackmania, especially because it has a number of very opaque mechanics that provide very little feedback to the player.
I just started with TM because I enjoyed watching you play on stream. This video is great and it helped me alot. Thank you very much
Man said first educational video as if I haven't learnt SD, iceslides, neoslides and gears from him
As a new player, more of these would be awesome! Thank you for this
Amazing! I have been waiting for something like this for a while! Tutowirtual is here!
You are the only Trackmania creator I regularly watch and I just downloaded Trackmania yesterday. This timing is perfect.
I have been waiting on a series like this from you! Thank you Wirtual.
Great stuff, and thanks for the awesome content!
yes!!! more tutorials please. i started playing TM because of you and you are very knowledgeable. thanks for the vid!
This is great! As a new player (currently console), I've wondered why you didn't have educational vids. Can't wait to see the series develop!
This was really insightful, and helpful, hopefully look forward to see more!
I literally started last week and had to research myself I can't believe you're starting a series on this holy shit godsend
Thank You, Wirtual!!
I literally joined the game 2 days ago, and could not imagine to see this video so soon)
I hope we will see more such videos in the future. It will help many people to have more fun at the game. Thank You!
As a new player this is exactly what I was looking for, thanks a lot really looking forward to more of these videos :)
For smaller stuff like airtime, airbrakes and drifts (like covered in this vid) it should be put together because they are the fundamentals, but "fancy mechanics" like bugslides, speedslides, neoslides, etc should have a probably smaller yet separate video describing things in depth.
for example, the speedslide vid could be all about speedslides on every surface and the speedslide graph (like the one you've shown in prev vids. ex: chromas hell vid timestamp is 1:27)
when you can start one and the list probably goes on. you could also probably talk about s4ds and stuff relating to it
this was a great first tutorial though and ive been a fan for a little over a year now so i just wanna say good job with the content
Despite watching so many videos about the game I still learned something that I needed even the most basic things. So it was definitely helpful.
Thank you for this! I started playing a few years ago and gave up, but with these methods now brought to my knowledge, I can actually compete now!
im getting into the game again after visiting tmn and tmnf for massive nostalgia hits. I love how many dimensions have been added by the community strategies and by the devs (like surfaces + new tiles).
This is awesome. I would love more educational content. especially how to control ice. Im really struggling with the last Training Map #25.
awesome video ❤ thx Wirtual
Thanks! As a trackmania player which knows everything here completely I appreciate the educational video and hopefully more to come!
I downloaded the game today after watching tons of your video and then you uploaded this. Perfect timing
pls more of this style vid, i love it as a new player. thanks wirtL
Please keep making videos like this. I'm not sure how well it might do compared to your other videos but this is an excellent teaching tool to newbies and could really pop off if you end up continuing with a series
very good and reminds me of teaching as well when there are just so many things going into it and wanting to explain it all at once!!
Even though there was some 'first tutorial' slip ups, it was still really detailed and a good representation from a new player POV, definitely keep doing these.
After following you for a long while, I just started playing this game two days ago, so the timing couldn't be more perfect
Gogo I believe in you!!
Very helpful! I like this new content, please continue the series!
So keen for the series!!!
Thanks Wirtual! This is a great introduction.
I like this conceptually, but I feel like it's too broad for its own good. Usually you wanna make content that appeals to everyone, but I've found in tutorial content, more niche topics tend to get that evergreen boost even more. If someone wants to improve on a dirt map for example, they're not gonna search, "HOW TO BE GOOD AT TRACKMANIA!" they're gonna search, "tips to drive dirt in Trackmania"
Just a thought, love your stuff Wirt!!
Yo hi cheetah
I would say I’m an intermediate / new player as I can get all the authors on the campaign maps. As someone at this level I find trying to find the information such as when you can speed slide on all the surfaces hard to come by. I would love a video on some of the smaller things like this as it’s intimidating as a newer player.
