I would think the door swings like that because of the spare wheel, and it opens away from the driver side so the driver won't have to walk around the door every time they open it.
It is that way for that reason. It was mentioned at the reveal. Good catch.
They should have done a setup like the Honda Element.
Also safer to access it away from the traffic side if you ask me
Sounds right. Besides, if you parallel park that thing, the hatch is too long to open with another car parked behind you anyway.
The spare is in the way of everything
That spare tire is far too heavy for a vertical opening door. You also can't put the tire underneath because of the battery. Can't put the tire on top because it would destroy aero. They were out of options. Can't fault them for that really. Good news is... rear mount spares look cool and the rear door will never break or close on your head.
Exactly. You’re correct.
The rear door motor will break after swinging all that weight and it also going against wind 💨
I am more impressed with how fast the Hummer can go from 0-60 than the Cyberbeast. That Hummer is soooo heavy.
The title for this video should be "..yea, but the price....."
No it shouldn’t because most of us with a brain expect vehicles like this and its competitors to be in that range considering what they are offering.
Yeah bc the 1st H1 Hummer was so "cheap" riiiight gtfo it. Move on Mary
"And the weight..."
I predict a smaller h3 size for less $
Hummer always were expensive. Never meant for the masses. A H1 in real time was so far out or reach for the normal consumer
I find it hilarious that the CGI Hummer EV in the infotainment screen looks better than the CGI Charger used in the dodge launch video.
I have had a h3 for ten years and it’s my baby , I have a res for the Cybertruck but I’m still in love with this ev I like everything about it I’ve seen them in the wild it’s I’m telling you it look dame good
Very nice but just too expensive
Rivian just unvieled the R2, R3, and R3X. assuming they enter production on schedule in 2026 at the stated price, the R2 will be the price of a model y, the R3 will be cheaper than a model 3 and essentially be a hatchback with offroad capability. while the R3X is basically a tri-motor super-hatch that looks like its inspired by group b rally. it looks insanely cool. its shorter than a golf, and only 1.5" taller than a golf even with all terrain tires and increased ride height. its super cool. they supposedly start at $45k, $35k, and $50k respectively.
Too expensive for who? The target buyer isn’t complaining about the price of this or your average Raptor R or TRX.
Like all the new cars. Ridiculous
Yyyyyyyeeeeaaaaahhhh I don’t think they’re trying to market this as a cheap economy vehicle.
That’s like saying super cars have gotten too expensive these days 🙄
A full size rock crawler SUV with 246 kWh battery pack for $116k is dirt cheap.
After owning one and dealing with all the issues of EV traveling I had GMC buy the vehicle back after just about doing 2300miles for the following reasons, software problems with charging and the time it takes to charge and the range with 860bhp I was only getting 130 miles of range so to travel any where was a challenge and when getting there trusting I can charge the hummer at any of these charging stops which was a problem on average I only managed twice to charge the vehicle, all other times I would get a fault come up with the battery and on one day after spending 4 hours and 5 charging stations to get no charging.
I had to switch every thing off to get to the dealer to repair the problem and after they had my hummer for 4 days I still had the same problem when I took the truck back.
My limited edition Hummer had everything fitted so when I first took delivery it was amazing to drive but as time went on I started to feel it was a bit cheap on not have the little things fitted like you would expect to have I.E ambient lighting, soft closing doors, better seats and a not so plastic interior and one last issue was the seals around all doors did not stop water coming in around the doors and when you opened the doors you would get wet.
I have had Hummers now for several years and my 2010 H2 I have never had any problems with when driving it around Europe so I do not agree with the comment that hummers are not reliable
Its the technology which is the problem cheap Chinese parts and batteries
With this experience I will never buy a EV vehicle again, GMC should have done a Gas engine then you would have something truly awesome
I never had or thought the rear door was a problem with its design
Odd you have an H2 but don't even know the year of it being the last year of production on the H2 was 2009 they made about 1500 before GM declared bankruptcy and closed Hummer down...
GM should have made a small bolt based truck. This behemoth is the king of inefficiency, so I guess they stayed true to the H2.
I’m not an EV guy but GM is actually doing a really smart thing. This truck/suv is their halo vehicle on a ground up modular platform mirroring the flexibility of certain German auto manufacturers. This is meant to be an expensive bouje status piece so regular people buy a blazer EV or whatever iteration of their electric range comes next. I don’t think Honda would partner with GM if they were doing something wrong.
Apparently something went wrong when they ended the partnership 😂
Honda partnered with Isuzu long ago. Passport=Rodeo.
I think it looks awesome! When is the next action movie coming where all the bad guys are running around in these beasts?! I wonder if Arnie already has one.
I saw one of these just yesterday & that color really is nice.
@tflev the door swings to the right so it does not swing into traffic. Bronco and Wrangler are configured the same way for the same reason.
Crazy I actually saw one while I was driving in the small village i grew up in couldn't believe it was the SUV i haven't seen the truck yet
6:13 was this a curb your enthusiasm reference 😂
There are a couple in my town, I like them, I would drive one. They are not as obnoxious as the pickup truck versions.
honestly this has grown on me. It is was 80K I would seriously consider
Clown
The door probably hinges on the right because while parallel parked, if it were to swing out into traffic it could get ripped off by cars driving past, not sure if the hinge can extend beyond the track width though. That is my theory.
I think it’s an amazing ride! I plan to buy one, you only live once and you can’t take it with you! LOL 😊 Thanks for bring this type of content to your followers TFL Team! I’d like to see you guys take it to a grocery store and provide feed back on what it is like parking in your everyday average parking lot.
I imagine that, especially off road, those tires are going to really suffer with all that weight they have to carry. Better bring 2 or 3 spares along, and have a VERY heavy duty jack!
In my opinion the 2009 -2010 Hummer H3 Adventure model was the best Hummer. Insanely capable with the front and rear lockers. Spacious and luxurious, a little underpowered but it couldn’t out of its way. I still miss mine.
Also pickup version with a manual 🤤
I believe there was the Alpha model that had the 5.3 V8, that'with the adventure package would be the unicorn to get.
I have one. Alpha with the Offroad package (adventure model). Stock preserved condition. It's the unicorn TFL needs to review.@@trailrunnah8886
What a unique piece of machine.
Despite its many quirks and features, its still a state-of-the-art.
Wow. I love the intuitive buttons on the dash! Thank you for not being all touchscreen!
16:45 Finding working chargers really isn't that difficult, but to your point, the 500 A chargers required for it to charge at its peak rate aren't consistently available outside of EVgo, which is still building out its network. The good thing about the 800 V architecture, though, is that it can actually charge faster than 150 kW on a 150 kW rated charger. Unfortunately, 800 V still isn't available on the Tesla Supercharger network, which GM EVs should be gaining access to soon.
The swing of the rear door is not a problem haha the shop attendants and valet attendants handle the bags in Beverly Hills
Back opens in a way to be closer to driver side. Perfect for my garage.
17:05 The good news about everyone moving to CCS protocols over the SAE-J3400 plug is that you really don't need to worry about standards anymore. If it fits, it most likely works (other than Tesla's remaining private network), and if it doesn't fit, you'll likely have an adapter that will allow it to work. At this point, you can pretty much just talk about AC and DC charging, and the "standard" will be a given.
In order to close with the keyfob, you must press twice and hold the second press until the swing gate is closed, same for closing the front Etrunk. And if you press and hold the rear swing gate button at the back of HUMMER, the rear window rolls down so you don't have to open the swing gate if you are in a tight parking area, that way you can place something in the rear or take something out without opening the gate.
If the price was lower than a Tahoe they would have a contender.
the hummer was always the expensive model when would it ever be lower than a tahoe? I'm pretty sure they were on par if not more expensive than the escalades when they were first coming out
@@sonofagun1037 I hear you it was the next step up,my thought is like you said have very nice suv's. So why ask so much more $ for something that has less range. Top of the line caddy with a 3.0 diesel will do over 500 miles on a tank for less $
@matthewholzmueller6292 like they said, its a toy. If you have the money for it then whatever in my book. Not like I'm planning on buying one lmao
@matthewholzmueller6292 I'm guessing it's way more than a tahoe because it probably took an entire village a few months to mine the rare earth minerals for that massive battery that will probably end up floating in the ocean in 8 years.
Oh please go into business, so I can attend your Bankruptcy
I have a theory on the tailgate swinging the way it does. I hear your reasoning Nathan, and my best guess revolves around the fact there will always be an occupant in the vehicle’s driver seat. If you think about the driver opening the tailgate, when they then exit the vehicle and go to the trunk it’s easy to gain access to the contents. If the tailgate were to swing the opposite direction, the driver would have to walk all the way out and around the tailgate to access the trunk.
You'd just push the door from the inside once you start opening.
Can't swing tire into on coming traffic. Law. When pulled over!
Couple things should show the top in the ftunk and do a range test between the suv and truck of the 2
Definitely a cool truck and awesome features and love the instant speed, love that description... Feels like a Disney ride. But definitely also not worth the money.
How is it not worth the money? 😂
@@G-Rated good question 😂
You guys lobe this ride than anything else I seen here!
I have a GX and the like the door opening on the driver side. I don’t park on side walks
My 2007 BMW 750Li was so complicated I forgot how to turn the wipers on one day and had to pull into a parking lot and look it up in the manual.
Was on the fence between this and R1S. Went with the Rivian mostly because I needed the seats and had early pricing locked in on top of tax rebate
my 02 crv's tailgate opens the same way and i can tell you that the way it opens is not as bad as they are making it seem 😭. the rare instance when i have to load something from the side walk i just end up putting it in the 2nd row on the floor.
Could be a contender if it had a diesel generator in its FRUNK.🚂
Nice Hunt for Red October reference!
5:53 I know why; the door opens that way because of the spare tire. If the door is opened, the tire will stick out into oncoming traffic just enough to not be noticed likely by drivers in tight areas, and liable to get hit. The Bronco does the same thing.
The spare tire would also obscure the left side taillamp, which would further expose the vehicle to traffic at night.
I'd bet it's a DOT/NHTSA regulation thing...
Drove one and thought it was a bit "meh". The battery/floor is so thick/high, the rear cargo area is pretty tiny/short.
“I recommend checking out the back door!”
TWSS! 😂
The front hatch may be opened differently because it is forward facing like a normal hood for safety
By the way, what happened with yours hummer pickup ?
First it supposed to be a long term vehicle but it disappeared really fast
It’s easier and more convenient for the driver. Plus it gives full vision of passing cars. Via no obstructions
Looks great!
Please note the front hatch is a extended press by design as in the unlikely, but possible circumstance of some road debris activating the front hatch while driving, which as you can agree would be a major issue
Guy's I just realized the hummer ev interior is like a more rugged looking version of the rivian interior. sure there are plenty of differences but mainly that dashboard design in front of the passenger looks like a more squared off version of the same style rivian uses.
I saw one of these at a buy here pay here lot near the base a few months ago.
The door swings to the right because the driver is walking in from the left side. The driver owns the vehicle, he or she gets the convenient side.
The thick bezels & sluggishness on the screen would kill me at this price point. I hope the next gen of this SUV trims them out & makes it snappier.
Good review!!
When car manufactures do electronic. You're too computer savvy.
I’ve been seeing one here in Henderson, Nevada for the past couple of months!
Funny how the tacoma blows its 4wd on some ice and these guys say its wonderful but the frunk didnt open exactly when they wanted so they say the hummer has problems. Cool truck and definitely stands out, the price is just dumb but most trucks are overpriced now so its not that crazy.
Wonder if they have any plans to introduce a smaller Hummer like they did with the old gas models (H2/H3).
For now there is hope for the upcoming Rivian R2/R3. Just home those fit my budget.
These are so cool looking and huge!
The embarrassment here for GM is how “untechnical” the hummer is. It’s so inefficient they just cram as many batteries into that will physically fit. It makes the thing weigh 8900lbs. It’s a rolling showcase of “we had to show something…”
Nice video ❤❤
They raised prices on reservation holders , dropped the standard range , and lowered the horsepower. After making reservation holders wait years. I canceled my reservations, electric g wagon for me.
I think the Hummer EV pickup is a better Cybertruck than the Cybertruck.
Ain't that the truth. What is cyberpunk but 80s futurism? And what did trucks look like in the 80s? Not like door stops.
They don’t want to admit it. They want to focus on the price as if Raptors and TRX are “affordable” halo vehicles. 🤡
The answer to the back door problem is easy: It was designed for the UK, they drive on the wrong side of the road, so also have the curb on the wrong side of the road. :)
You guys should do a off road review with the hummer suv
I’d be interested at even $85k but $115k is just mind blowing. The majority of the interior is straight out of a Tahoe.
I’m convinced that this was made for Arnold.
GM really has a lot of gall for some of their prices.
Ask the H1 guys if the price is mind blowing. It's not. With options H1's used to cost the same adjusted for inflation. Interior is NOT from the Tahoe - we all know it. GM put their heart and soul into the interior exterior design, these are not run of the mill.
They nailed it while Rivian is grabbing at straws hoping they still exist next decade and who cares about a 3rd row? These aren't Suburbans. We want more Hummers!
Literally shares little to nothing with the interior of a Chevrolet Tahoe. Y’all make things up out of thin air. A completely different interior. This truck is also substantially more capable off-road than a Tahoe Z71 and it’s much more upscale. Why are you trying so hard to rewrite the narrative here?
Just wait 6 months, someone will be dumping it
Yeah, I want to know what GM's cost is on one of these. I'm surprised they still haven't dropped the prices. They are gouging badly. I can say my local dealership has had the same 3 Hummer EVs on their lot for at least 2 months. You'd think they would give discounts because of this. If they were selling so fast that they couldn't produce them quickly enough then, of course, go ahead and price gouge. It seems they made a horrible business decision.
Is there a slant back version?
We just picked ours up 2 days ago, put 500 miles on it so far lol… still trying to figure it all out . We own a lot of rare and exotic vehicles… the Hummer gets more attention.
If you’re complaining about this being too expensive, maybe… you’re… just… not.. the… target… audience…………………
No kidding, I just bought mine two days ago, and LOVE it.
I’m confused they review 100k trucks all the time
Yea this isn't an H3😂
The jeep wrangler also hinges that way too. So i would be a person who would be used to that opening. I also have to say that this hummer suv is my favorite electric so far.
they think the hinge is parked in a driveway and the drive with a forward to right side garage is just fine. However the huge Tailgate hingle is amazingly strong with a huge tire on the back end.
Just let me open my own door
I own one of these! I love it already!
the spare wheel is on the curb because if you're broke down on the highway it's safer to remove the spare wheel
Doesn't seem to be a problem with the G Wagon.
@@b.t.2795 well when you're changing a tyre in your G wagon and an 18 wheeler roles by, remember some guy in Germany designed it 🤣
If the door swings out to the right might be comfortable to those trading up from the old hummers to this as that is the way they swing ! And we are use to it! That’s the way I’d want it!
only a three year warranty on a vehicle that has been fraught with issues since launch, that's my hesitation.
Replace the roof panels with solar panels for that parked with a dead battery at the cabin and fully charge a month later. 200 watts 50 per panel solar maybe 200 more on the back and 100 more on the hood. 500 watts vs 170,000 watt battery at 10 hours a day only take 30+ days to charge the battery. 30 days of camp fires fishing canoeing and hunting. Then drive 300 miles to a charger. 1+ days at a 6.2 kW level 2 charger. 5 days at level 1. ...maybe you could put extra panels in the frunk.
I would take it MORE SERIOUSLY if it came with a twin turbo V8 or a Diesel engine at lower weight and cost. As it is very few people are going to buy this.
Exactly!!
The door probably hinges on the right because while parallel parked
5:47 The HUMMER SUV was clearly designed for UK market.
I love how Roman tries to make everything *gm* designs seem over complicated or incorrectly/incompletely thought out. It’s expected at this point.
ADM will keep it away from many people. I've only seen 2 Hummer pickup EVs in the last 2 years and about 12 Cybertrucks in this year alone plus countless R1S. Direct sale is needed to get these into consumers.
Sat in one a few days ago no headroom in the front or back. If you sit back all the way your head hits the roof rails. True I'm 6'4" but that's supposed to be a big American SUV. I have no trouble fitting in a model 3.
I’m 6’5” i sat in many of them the pickup and the suv I was mad comfortable, so how are you 6’4” not having headroom?
I think you didn’t adjust the sit control right.
Andre said it right 'its just an experience toy.'
Tire extends over a foot beyond the tailgate. Maybe the thinking was to keep the tire from opening into traffic.
The rear door is hinged on that side because if it was hinged on the other side when open the spare tire would stick out into traffic.
Door opens that way because the tire would be towards the curb if u needed to swap. You don't want to do that sort of work on the road side.
They need to make an H3 sized HUMMER EV on the scale of the Kia EV9.
This thing is ridiculously huge.
Most tire carriers all open the same way. Even the older H2 carriers. This is for quick driver access.
All the people saying its too expensive, or if its less 80k, 85k, less than a tahoe, no ne of them even drive an ev, or theybdont get what the hummer is, so the if and then crowd don't worry the price is something you cant swing. The price is very reasonable given a 200+kwh battery pack price out the $/per kwh and it is very reasonable.
There’s no location for a full size spare that TFL won’t complain about. In the trunk =complaints, under the truck =complaints, on the roof =complaints, on the door =complaints, space saver =complaints. Let’s just take a moment and acknowledge the fact that a full size spare on the back door is by far the best solution. Thankyou, end of discussion. That way it doesn’t compromise cargo space, ground clearance, handling, and it allows for bike racks mounted on the tire, not problematic hitch mount bike racks. The door opening is a small price to pay, plus you never reach over your head which kinda sucks.
It’s a *gm* so they have to try ripping it apart any way that they can smh 😂
I would surmise the rear door swings in such a way because the driver is the most likely candidate to access the trunk. It is a few feet less to walk around to access the cabin. This has been a complaint since the beginning of swing out hatches in the year 1923. I cannot count on one hand how many times I street park and need to move things into my trunk. This is not a “city” car.
Should have taken it off some sweet jumps.
There is one of those for sale not far from me in Ontario Canada for about $157,093 CAD. Way too rich for the average buyer, but they really are not intended for that person. Note it is subject to a luxury tax here which adds around $10,000 to the price.
This is on my list of "if I were rich, I'd probably buy one" vehicles.
Great unit for around town. Big and heavy so it will take out most cars in an accident. Once it depreciates it should be somewhat affordable if it doesn’t have too many problems. No reports of these spontaneously combusting so far so that’s a plus.
Very nice truck.
A pickup truck style tailgate that flips down would have made this truck awesome.
The SUV is way cooler than the truck, especially in that beautiful green. I just wouldn’t want to take care of the matte paint.
You don't want the spare tire and door swinging out toward traffic to impale either a bicycle rider or impale someone driving at higher speed.
Probably much easier for the driver who will be using the back door 90% of the time to have it open as built.
I never had any interest in owning any of the original variants but, for several years now, I could not help but notice how many of those originals were gathering dust on second and third tier used car lots in our area. But here's the rub.....Like magic, following the announcement of the current generation of Hummer, all but one or two of the originals mentioned above suddenly disappeared from those dealerships and are showing up on the roads around here. I suspect, but have no proof to show you, that the ones I know of still on dealer lots are lost causes either due to rust or mechanical FUBARs that nobody wants to take on. Like the originals, I'll be taking a hard pass on the new Hummer but thanks for another great video.
Its not worth having the swinging doors open to the curb. Most of the time people are accessing the back, they're not parallel parked. It's easier if it opens to the driver's side .
The “2” trim level is apparently coming soon. Around $88k to start. Presumably ditches things like Rear Wheel Steering, Infinity Roof and Air Ride to achieve the lower price.
That would defeat the purpose, wouldn't it?
