Do what you want, but its going to have to be niche for me! I had Eau Fraiche, Black Orchid, and l"Homme Intense for years until I put my nose on 540 extrait and it literally changed my life. Now I've developed a borderline obession with fragrances and now have over 60 bottles and love them all! I've gotten to the point where its like I'm not even dressed if I don't spray spray something. My nose has gotten sharper and more discerning, and I smell delicious and rich all the time and that make me happy! Designer has its place but it ain't much over here
“It’s all about your taste” THANK YOU. As a fan of both niche and designer, I definitely have my favorites from both sides. And yea Nicheheads are annoying as hell 😂 I can’t lie though, It’s so funny when I tell someone that I have on [insert niche fragrance] and their faces become confused 😂
Funny when you get a compliment on a Roja or Xerjoff people think it’s some peasant juice nobody’s heard of, then when you say YSL or Dior they’re all impressed. Little do they know, til they google it 😂
I started with niche but I’ve found many designer houses that have great fragrances with excellent quality. Niche (cost) doesn’t always equal “better” & doesn’t equal automatic compliments if that’s what you’re looking for. Designer houses have the money to make sure their scents are MASS appealing. My advice is just buy samples & decants. You’ll be able to sample a ton of scents for a fraction of the cost of buying one whole 50 or 100ml niche bottle.
Great take on niche vs designer. There’s a common misconception that cost correlates with quality, which i think is true up to a point, but a $300+ perfume doesn’t necessarily smell more expensive than a $100-150 perfume.
I find that I tend to gravitate towards designer fragrances for 65% of my dumb reaches. This specifically stands when I'm going to a restaurants, the office, most dayweddings and other places where I'm looking to be more conscious of not offending. I wear my Niche fragrances when I'm wearing clothing that may be a bit avant-garde or more artistically expressive. It seems to highlight that . Because at the end of the day a fragrance is just another form of expression that's meant to highlight all else that you are giving.
After trying a lot of the hyped up niche scents on RUclips, I found that I'm struggling to like most of them. And the ones I like, I have to wait for a cooler weather to wear (ie. Intense Cafe), when I live in a hot & humid climate. Now I am adding designer perfumes to my collection because it's more wearable and easy for me to sniff at the counters without having to buy decants.
I've sort of come full circle on this. I started out with designers because back when I first got into fragrances, there wasn't really any niche. After a while, I started dabbling into some niche because at that time it was important for me to smell "unique & different". After experimenting with niche for some time, I came to the realization that most of the niche I ended up buying had the same qualities as some of the better designer scents (mass appealing, good performance, etc). Recently I've been focusing more on designers again, especially since the trend started with designers having EdP's, & parfums, and I have to say, I'm really enjoying it. Unless you're wearing the most popular designers, you will smell unique to most people.
That's true. But also for most it is hard to get your nose on niche Fragrances if you don't live in a major city. Where you can get to the top department stores and smell them
right now I'm more into the niche, but in the designer there are many perfume jewels, but once you enter the niche world it's very difficult to look back 😝
you're sweet, and totally right lol. To add to your point, some perfumes smell SO different depending on the wearer, it's hard to judge the juice itself. I do agree though, once you collect for a while, the niche world becomes much more enticing and interesting.. I just managed to get my hands on Baccarat and im blown away. all the reviews in the world couldnt prepare me for such an experience of a fragrance
I just started and I like both. Designer is a easy grab. But like you said I don't want to smell like erbody else. Plus I like the art that is put into some niche Fragrances. It like you can smell the work from opening going through the dry down. Mind blowing
I like to wear both niche and designer. It doesn’t really matter to me as long as I like the scent. Also, team Rolex. They look better imo and cost less.
Great video👍👍This is a question that can draw a lot of spirited responses. November will be a year since I got back into the fragrance game or should I say a year since I started to get "serious" about fragrances. Based on my limited experience, I would say that in general, the "average" Designer house can't compare in terms of refinement and uniqueness of scent profile to the "average" Niche house. But you have those exceptions where a designer house will launch an inexpensive fragrance that blows the Niche houses outta the water. Bentley For Men Intense is a great example. One of the best boozy fragrances out there. It costs 38.00, the quality of the blend is Niche level, and the boozy accord is far more pronounced then in a lot of the niche selections featuring booze. Another one is Franck Olivier Oud Touch A 19.00 Oud Banger that doesn't even contain oud, smells like it should cost well over 100.00 and is Beast Mode in every category. But with all that said.......I still think Niche is better.
The only reason I prefer niche is performance, but I check reviews for performance before buying any fragrance. That said, my favorite fragrance is Bvlgari Golden, which is designer, with crap performance. But I go through bottles fast, and it's discontinued.
Hello Melissa, how are you? Great job on the video. I'm digging the Analogy. I have both designer and Niche Fragrances Where I live people don't really care but Designer Fragrances are just easier. My Niche Fragrances are just for me. The main thing is what you love and what you can afford. Stay safe
Emphasis on "what you can afford!" It's nice to have nice things and we all deserve it once in awhile but I've literally watched people go broke with this Hobby
I love your watch analogy. To answer your question, I’m team Rolex. They have more models (GMT Master, Daytona, Submariner) Outside of the Nautilus, Patek doesn’t offer much. Love your shirt btw. Is it designer or niche?
For every good designer fragrance, there are 5 bad ones. Most of the new releases are boring and many designers are interchangeable. After smelling basically every designer at Sephora, I got myself 15 designers I really like and thats it. No need to get the Le Parfum version if you have one of the many similar fragrance. No need to get every single cheap Azzaro Chrome flanker or every single YSL Lhomme/la nuit flanker for example. The niche world has so much more to discover, I would suggest to buy a couple of samples of highly rated niches fragrances than to add a redundant cheap designer to your collection. Less is more, better to have bangers only.
You're right because the only Niche most people know is Creed... You can get Creed at Macy's now. Almost classified as a designer fragrance. Broke my heart to see it displayed in the middle of Hugo Boss, and Lacoste fragrances
Niche fragrances honestly doesn’t matter unless they have a new scent DNA 🧬. It’s best to purchase the new scent dna asap before it gets cloned. I think all niches are being cloned very well for the fraction of the price in the designer department. And these new clones make some niches, not all, smell like designer I.e. Silage vs. Silver Mountain Water, Rasasi vs Tuscan Leather, Angelic Elixir vs Angels Share. And don’t let me mention Aventus😢
I own about 60 colonges and i have about 50-50 niche and designer and i still lean more designer, there are some niche frags that i just think to my self how can someone wear that
niche for me but i have a ton of scents i respect that are designer! the watch analogy is spot on! the further u dive into this hobby the more u wanna smell different and stand out in a positive way AND ur nose changes. i just purchased le labo patchouli 24 and i used to despise that scent cuz i thought it smelled like campfire and log cabin haha but now it smells like a work of art to me aka smoky and vanilla! so it's a tricky topic as what u like changes! i think designer is "safer" altho idk "niche" brands like creed and pdm are all pretty safe in my world!! are those even niche anymore haha they used to be
@@seansimmons73 haha that bbq cooked meat opening is what prevented me from buying it for so long but an hour in to the end is pure perfection!!!!! lol i'll give that one a try

Niche is fantastic, but for me it's designer just based off versatility. It's nice to love a fragrance and get to wear it all the time worry-free.
I gravitate a lot towards private and high end designer, I feel it's the sweet spot between niche and designer
The only one I have experience with is Aftternoon Swim..needless to say...IM SOLD

Definitely Niche!
I lean niche and haven't bought designer fragrances in years. Both sides of the scent fence have their merits however.

Short answer? Clones. The great ones. It blows them all out of the water at a fraction of the price.

Biggest downside to niche brands - they are really hard try before buying due to availability.
