    Fantastic job, looks brilliant.
I use Media Centre a lot, but I also built a touchscreen jukebox (home, not car) with an Atom based system and use a $15 piece of software called Album Player. Works great and you could integrate right into the Media Centre menu...
If only I had an RNS-E in my A3 :)
But seriously, a GREAT job :)

Yes, that's pretty much right. The CANBus adapter is connected to a Peak Systems adapter because the Infotainment CAN is a low speed CAN. The CANBus adapter is for high speed, and the Peak systems is a high/low converter.
The wires are a pair of CAN High and Low, the others are ground and connect to the back of the RNS-E.
If you need any more help, let me know..

Hi :) Thanks for the comments. Yes, it took quite a bit of hard work to get the results in the end.
I am currently getting to a point where I can manufacture the circuit boards and have a website with how to build the system. If you would like to do the same, check back soon!
    Thanks, Steve

    Very well done!
Now the question that remains, what does your FIS/Driver's Info Display say when in the Media Center mode? Does it list song titles, etc. on the top of the display in the cluster? When will you have a kit available to do this? I'd like to put this on mine.
    Thanks

Very nice! I managed to do something similar but I'm now stuck at how to control it using the RNS-E. From what I can tell, you're using a Can2USB adapter, but then what's that plugged into it that splits the wires? Once split, I'm assuming you just have them spliced into the CAN High/Low on the back of the RNS-E right? Then is it just a matter of sniffing the COM port?

Good job! I'd like to do a similar project, but using a raspberry pi 2. Can you tell me what kind of adapters I would need to get this working? I'd like to use the rns-e buttons to navigate the multimedia software.

I'm looking for the can bus adaptor like you have in the video to use with my rns-e to a lattepanda what adaptor did you use? How did you program it to accept the button push from rns-e?
Trying to get this going along with something to convert hdmi to the rns-e composite.

Hello! This is a bit old - but how did you get the sound output of your pc into the RNS-E?

Very cool, have u ever thought about using a raspberry pi and run XBMC on it ? it uses much less power only a few watts and the whole computer is not much bigger than a deck of playing cards.

Hi, very interested in doing a similar thing. Do you have any of the kits left? Interested in the wiring from the cambus and video to the RNS-E more than anything.

Yes I have various bit and pieces left - I bought enough to make up 10 kits and still have spares. If you like, get in touch and we can discuss. These are just surplus for me now. steven.oakes@gmail.com

hi i am very interested in your project. please could you give me information on the resolutions in powerstrip. greetings and many thanks desdes Spain. congratulations on the project.

Hi There, thanks for taking a look at the project. I used powerstrip to work out the settings for the video modes at the start, but I do not install powerstrip anymore to get the correct video mode. I just apply a registry file that creates the DTD settings in the video driver.
If you would like to build this project for your car, I can help you and supply the required CAN bus adapters, video cable, and system tray software to read the button presses.

Hi There buddy. I am currently getting stock to manufacture kits to make this possible.
What mother board have you got? You will need something with a 945 chipset.
    Regards,
    Steve

What is the resolution for the screen ? i'll check my Pi and let you know what it outputs..

  • @Tyranthraxus
    @Tyranthraxus  11 лет назад

Yes these computers would be very nice because of the size and power usage, but you need to note that the computer *must* output in a custom resolution.
I have tried, tried and tried lots of motherboards and the ONLY one that could do this was the Intel 945 chipset.
I highly doubt any other board, especially specialised boards such as Rasberry Pi would be able to do this..
    Thanks

    Thanks!
I would like to improve the software so that it sends the trackname to the display, at the moment it just shows TV/VIDEO.
I am manufacturing 10 demonstration kits presently, can you provide your email? Thanks
    Steve
