I filmed one yesterday on a lilac bush. It was covered in bumble bees. I kept rewatching and thought. That looks like a moth or hummingbird. I feel very lucky. 😍
I think I saw one of these today, it was flying so fast I couldn't make out much more than the "shrimp" like shape and yellow stripes, haha. what an interesting insect, I hope I can see more. they make me think of a hummingbird, butterfly, and shrimp all combined together... very intriguing combination.
This is amazing! I saw some of these in my backyard on lilacs. I was so confused because it looked like a bee and a hummingbird had a baby! I tried to describe it to people and they just stared at me like I had 2 heads! Then I saw a photo from my local paper where someone submitted a photo for a contest! I came across your video in my search and this is it exactly! Any bug nerds, I've seen 7 around my neighbourhood in Hamilton ON in the past month!
Just came across one of these in my northern Colorado garden; it took awhile to identify it, as I'd never seen one before. Thanks for the beautiful, informative video. You have a cinematic knack and the heart of a naturalist. 🦋
This video just made my morning so much more peaceful and enjoyable. A real gem. Thank you so much for creating it! I have these every year in my garden and I adore them.
Beautiful video, I love the music. I was blessed and astonished to see one of these in my backyard pollinator garden today in Houston, Texas. I thought I was seeing a rufous hummingbird! It was so cool!
Thanks to your video I was able to identify this moth in my garden this evening. It was dusk and I thought I was seeing a juvenile hummingbird of a type I'd never seen before. Now I know about this amazing moth. Also - kudos on your video - the quality, editing, music and voice over are all very professional and quite enjoyable. You have a new subscriber. :-)
I live in the most Southern part of Canada and saw two this evening on my milkweed plants! They were amazing. Thanks for the info. I had a hard time IDing them.
Tell me, would it ever be a bad thing to have too many of these, based on what resources they consume (leave some for others) and what plants they pollinate (pesky weeds)? What eats them (would increasing a food supply cause any specific outgrowths of pesky upper-chain organisms)? I would like to start breeding them, and would love some feedback.

The fact that you found one resting long enough to get a good shot of your hand next to it has me colored impressed.

Set out a plate of ripe fruit and he came to nectar. Had to look up as I'd never seen one.
