Thanks TK for letting us know how to get one of those beauties over here. I definitely need an Arthur Wright Barlow in my collection! It’s pretty cool to have some real English steel in your hand!
Yessir. It's nice to own a little piece of history with an English Barlow.
Big handle and nice blade, the handle texture is interesting, gives it an old-world look, thanks for sharing!
Yes, I like that it's a little larger than a typical Barlow and the swell makes for a great grip. Take care Jose.
Really nice knife, I like the irregularity of the scale sizes on hand fitted knives. Thanks for the video. Don’t know much about slipjoints, always nice to learn a little bit, like Barlow and the England origin ~200 years ago.
Oh yea lots of history with Barlows. Check this out. ruclips.net/video/7T9AO3iynRA/видео.html
@@ThriftyKaniffy Ah, thank you, I will 👍
Think A.Wright call that blade shape a Tackler, thanks for showing it!🇬🇧
That's actually a different model of of knife from them. Similar though. Thanks Ian.
Love Barlows
Me too. A pattern very near the top of my list.
What a nice looking knife! Thanks very much for the look at this one, buddy!
You bet, David. Glad you enjoyed the review.
I like the idea of how they are made the old fashion way. The Stag varies in appeance unless you spend more for models double the price or more. For real stag however, they cost less than most knives that use stag for cover material. I think stag on some knives is burned to daken the color. If the horn is polished out enough it would be a natural white color. I tried Buffalo and Rams horn and it is much different looking than the stag they use. I bought mine early from Sheffeild a while back. The prices have gone up since then. Thanks for at a look at yours. 👍
I've noticed the dye wearing off since handling it and it's gotten a lot lighter. If you compare the thumbnail photo to the photos at the end of the video you can notice a pretty dramatic difference. I may end up cleaning it up and customizing it more to my liking.
@@ThriftyKaniffy I think the it is natural stag and what is comming off is dirt, never remove from the horn. Mine did the same as yours. I would guess the stag use is from the higher parts of beams of the horn. The base of the beam would have more pigment and a darker color. I might think die wouldn't come off easily like a paint does. I hope to see what you do to your knife.
Very Nice I will be buying one of these soon Thanks for sharing it 👊🏼👍🏻
No problem Craig, glad you liked it. Let us know how you get on with the purchase.
Cool looking knife TK! I like the shape of the blade! Appreciate you sharing this with us! I hope you are well my friend!!!
Thanks, John. I'm doing well. Hope you're having a good week.
@@ThriftyKaniffy yes, busy but good.. did you see my response to your green knives? Sorry it was kind of late... loved that tag!
Cool video. I think Arthur Wright & Sons offer some of the best bang for the buck that can be had. Nice and solid pocket knives for a very reasonable price. I have 3 of them currently. 2 barlows and one sheepsfoot blade which they call a farmers knife. Very pleased with all 3. Love’em. Thank you sir
Thanks for the knife feedback Larry. I enjoy hearing what experiences commenters have had with certain brands so this is good to know.
Great knife. I agree about the stag handles but it is a cool knife anyway. I’m glad you told how to get one because I have thought about getting one myself. I appreciate your reviews. Thanks TK.
Thanks Dean. I should've gotten one long ago. Thanks for watching and glad to help you locate one.
Great looking Barlow! I like that one! May have to get one!
Glad you enjoyed the look. I love a good Barlow.
Beautiful knife....Great review Sir.
I always enjoy reviewing a good Barlow. Hope you had a good time watching.
@@ThriftyKaniffy Yes Sir Sure Did.
Very nice lambsfoot! And lucky finish from AW&S! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching. Welcome to the channel, Wharnie.
Sometimes I think it's no bad thing to omit a half-stop, and instead keep to a cam-tang, when it snaps like a crocodile. It is for me at least! Ashley and the gang still make everything by hand except the blade blanks, which are stamped out using a handpress I think. I have a spearpoint in stag. I ended up removing the dye and rubbing in a paste of instant coffee. I think their stag is the least successful of their covers for me. For example, I bought a lambsfoot in ebony in the sales. It's the inkiest black I've ever seen. Beautiful.
Thanks for providing your experience with these. The coffee idea is a great one. I'll have to try out their ebony. I very much appreciate the comment, Ian. Have a good weekend.
Nice Barlow . 👍 Great review .
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks very much Michael.
Thrifty, your tail end slide shows are really great and put you head and shoulders above other reviewers!
I appreciate that, Robert. Glad you enjoy the vids. Take care.
Great Barlow! Thanks for the review and info on who might have them here in the US.
Glad to help. A. Wright make some nice pieces, Bill.
Always liked English Barlow's. Thanks for showing it, and the info on where to get them in the States. I will definitely be checking out the website. Thanks TK. Good looking Barlow.👍
Yes, glad to help Steve G. They are a brand I always wanted to own.
Great knife, great review, and thanks for the info on how to order.
You are very much welcome. Also welcome to the channel, Nick. Take care.
Thrifty very nice blade brother! Love the stag and the blade! Great review!
Thanks Boston. Hope you're doing well buddy. 👍
@@ThriftyKaniffy you got it, I’m doing well brother!! Same to you!!!
Great vid - was unaware of these , Def intrigued will b checkin out 💯
Glad you enjoyed it, Chad. Let us know how you like it if you get one.
Good looking knife.
Thanks Kirby, glad you enjoyed the review. Have a great day.
Quality traditional knife.
I appreciate you having a look Donald. Sheffield makes a great Barlow.
Rustic
Has that Brotherish Watchman blade
Shape... Nice.
Solid build. Just not my favorite stag, Thanks Rick.
That is a beautiful knife. 😎👍
Thanks very much, Scott.
@@ThriftyKaniffy You're very welcome. 😊
Very good piece for the $$!! That tumbled stag sure is different!!
Yea it's done a little different. Not my favorite, but despite that I still really like the knife. Thanks, Jer.
@@ThriftyKaniffy I sent you a funny e mail with some vids about ur stickers. They did make it but not sure how after seeing the envelope
@@bigjsknives Jeez the envelope looked like wretched up roadkill. Glad the stickers made it, it sure took long enough. ☠✉
@@ThriftyKaniffy 😂 😂😂😂😂😂. Went thru the Beever 🦫 on the way… Thanks for the note on the back as well, very appreciated.
@@bigjsknives You're very welcome.
Nice looking Barlow. Im England they have a blade pattern called Lambsfoot(instead of sheepsfoot)
Yea that would be a blade that lightly narrows toward the tip, while this one broadens lightly. Thanks, Little.
Nice Barlow. Been looking at getting a Arthur Wright & Son knife to add to my collection.
I'd looked a long time before pulling the trigger. Glad I did.
My A Wright came with a worm hole on the rosewood and the pull is vise grip candidate. That bone looks a little funky, but a little sandpaper would work. I do like the knife but needs detailing and breaking in!✌️
Great knife, but not a fan of the work they did on the handle. Thanks Richard.
Had a chuckle to myself that you did a video on easy opening folders after getting an Arthur Wright. Only have one two bladed clip point Barlow from AW in rose wood but it's a particular favourite that's had a lot of use. Never seen a stag handle quite like that, I do like it. Yes, the hand made thing. I think my knife has an entirely different set of little foibles and it was made during the "we can't be a*sed to put any edge on the knives whatsoever" era but I would be gutted if I lost that knife. Hope you've taken to yours.
I have a secret obsession with the English. Shhh don't tell anyone someone might get a big head. Yes it is funny, the bank vault pull on this will get you to the tag video quicker than otherwise. Just bought the single bladed clip in Rosewood, should review that in the coming weeks. Thanks JK, have a lovely weekend..
@@ThriftyKaniffyThat's a good one! I'd almost say it's my favourite Barlow!
Beautiful choice, my friend! I like the blade! A good ol' Sheffield Barlow just feels so special. I'd suggest you check out some more videos on these knives, however, you may fall to the Sheffield curse like me. Once it's begun, you may never stop buying these! My favourite A. Wright is the Ettrick. It has lots of history and is a very unique design. The Lambsfoot is a great choice, too. And after that, maybe try a Taylor's Eye Witness Premier, or a Joseph Rodgers, OR a J. Adams, I could go on. These knives grow on you over time, despite their flaws. After all, it's strange that some of my favourite knives are far from perfect. Heinnie Haynes is my favourite dealer of Wrights. They sold me an Ettrick for just 14.95 GBP! Cheers!
I've already fallen down the rabbit hole with the Sheffield stuff. I'm just looking to find ways to get my hands on more of it here in the States. Thanks, Raven.
I agree with the stag not being great but it is a budget knife.i hope you enjoy using it and look forward to your review.atb paddy
It's a lovely knife regardless. Just not what I expected in the handle. I've got another in rosewood with a clip point on the way. Thanks a bunch Paddy. Love these British Barlows.
Barlow and sheeps foot.👍
Thanks Mark! A good combo.
Overall it's a great knife, the stag could just have been polished for me, but a very nice one nevertheless. Thank you John.
Thanks for having a look at it, Jeroen. I'll probably avoid their Stag and go with something wooden next time.
I bought 3 knives from them. Real nice knives
Wow. What did you get?
@@ThriftyKaniffy I got a Tackler, an Ettrick and a Barlow
@@stuartgross162 OK great. I really like the Tackler too.
Hey thrifty cool piece!!!! The covers are different but I like it I like things that are different….. I was always a leader not a follower I like it and it’s not going to go down in value it’s a Authur Wright piece 😊
It's a cool piece. I may have pointed out the flaws, but I like it all the same.
Thanks for the video and for sharing your thoughts.
That's a lovely looking knife. I love the blade shape on that and the butt of the handle.
@gadgetgus sent me here and I'm glad he did. Totally subscribed.
Gus is a great guy. Thanks for taking the time. I really like the Arthur Wright designs which are very good value knives.
Not seen that particular model before however for me the bolster not long enough to be a Barlow, subjective I know, still a good work knife and much prefer the strong pull you get with most Sheffield knives.
Sometimes I just succumb to what the manufacturer claims it to be. Barlow / Jack knife, Wharncliffe / Sheepsfoot...at the end of the day it's just a name. Thanks, Lewis.
I've got to say that personally I'm not a fan of stag handles and I'm indifferent to the sheepsfoot blades (I do own one AW with a sheepsfoot blade) BUT I do love the AW lambsfoots and have a decent number of them. However my favourite model is the Senator. Have you seen them? I would recommend having a look if not.
Yes, I've seen the Senator. I've not found a retailer here that sells them without the more expensive worked back. I prefer the sheepsfoot and clip point blades. Thanks, Ed.
Nice 😊
Thank you! Cheers, Prop.
Cool knife, but can't safe I'm a fan of the scales. Great video
They aren't the best that's for sure. Thanks Randy.
I'd be pleased to get Stag like this one.. it has a story to tell. Randy Buck, that "Fought/Rutted," for its Breeding Rights!! 🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌
RIP Randy.
Trying to find one look every couple days on James &sons AAPK
Good luck, James. I hope you find what you're looking for.
I'm the odd man out as I really don't care for those covers but other than that it looks like a really great knife. That's a Sheepsfoot, IMHO.
No, the handles are not what I was hoping for. The taper is rather subtle.
TK an awfully picky review of a knife you didn’t really pay that much for but it’s your knife so dig in lol
Thanks for sharing bro
I may have pointed out the flaws, but I really enjoy this knife. I waited longer than I should have own one. Thanks Terry.
@@ThriftyKaniffy
Just pulling your leg a little harder than I should buddy
@@ThriftyKaniffy
Just for that I think I’m going to buy one
What is the web site that you bought this from, i looked for James and Company ?
DJ, it''s called All About Pocket Knives.
Wow that’s a whopper!!!
Thanks, Mike. Sheffield knows how to get good action on a blade.
@@ThriftyKaniffy love them slip joints
You had to do all that ! on a 65$ knife ?
I enjoy the minor touch-ups to make it better so that's not really a negative for me when it takes literal minutes to fix, but if that's not your thing then yea you may not be happy. The Brits consider this a budget knife, but the cost of getting it here raises the price for us in the States so keep that in mind.
Cover's not scales, scales on a traditional is the covers, liners and bolsters all together.
Also Stag is a natural material so don't expect it to match.
Thanks for the semantics.
