The ANSI Lock Grades - To Identify the Reliability and Durability of the Door Locks
You rely on locks for the security of your entire house. It is not just about the electronics, furniture items, and other expensive items in your home but also about the security of your loved ones. You cannot put at stake the well-being of your family by compromising on the level of security you need to provide them.
ANSI is the American National Standard Institute which is a non-profitable private organization which volunteers to make performance standards for builders making door locks. The ANSI grades serve the purpose of identifying the quality and durability of anything which is constructed by various companies. The dead bolt locks have to pass certain quality and security tests to get a certain grade which becomes their identification when a user comes to buy it.
Here are the different grades which are provided by the ANSI and the criteria which they require to be fulfilled.
Grade 1 - Highest Grade Security Level:
The Grade 1 lock has heavy steel and comes with a number of features. The type of keys which are used is more like car keys and these door locks also come in a variety of types which are determined by the security factor. When it comes to security door locks then this type is definitely better than the rest be it commercial or residential places. Remember that there are locks out there which are termed as Grade 1 but not high security, so make sure to check thoroughly before making a purchase.
Grade 2 - Highest Residential Security:
This is the highest residential certification and the deadbolt locks which fall in this category are heavy duty locks which have more weight than the basic security locks. They are made up of heavy steel and give a higher level of security and durability when it comes to residential locks. The side screws are very thick and the locks are harder to drill as well. The difference between the durability of the grade 2 and grade 3 are considerable making the grade 2 highly recommended to ensure your residential security.
Grade 3 - Basic Residential Security:
These are the pretty standard kind of deadbolt locks which can be seen in about 90-95 percent of the residential houses. You can easily find them in any of the hardware stores. There is nothing special about them and even a lot of stores use them. The keys are easily identifiable and you can spot a lot of people carrying them around. They give you the lowest levels of security and can be found at the cheapest and most affordable rates. These locks carry the lowest grades given by the ANSI and are not highly recommended because there is a relatively high chance of security breach with these kinds of locks.
These three types will help you in understanding the different standards which are provided by the ANSI and will help you in determining which kind of security door lock will best serve your purpose of living in a safe and sound home.

It is not practical to have 7 locks on 1 door but 2-3 is definitely good + having a good reinforcement Strike Plate and Video Doorbell that’s what I recommend
I am looking at having the MT5+ but my house has 3 bolts two that go up and down in addition to the side bolt would these work with a 3 bolt way door?
Hi there, ok so the MT5 is a Keyway Brand by Mul-T-Lock and there is different variations of this lock and Keyway. From what you described it sounds like you have Profile Cylinder, but I’m not 100% sure.

Both locks that you’ve mentioned are very good as well. They are high security locks and believe it or not.... there will always be someone out there that will make a video that he was able to pick it !
It’s just the way it is... but don’t let it fool you all High Security Locks good as it’s not likely that average burglar will spend the time to pick them or even learn how to do it.
They will find other weak point to access your property.

Finally Americans are using modern high-security cylinders commonly used in Europe since many years ago, Multilock MT5 is from Israel though. For example I got an armoured door with Dom Diamant protected by an Inn Pro Slippery defender, maybe because we can't rely on firearms to protect ourselves inside our homes?
You didn't talk about the Mul-T-Lock "classic" key. Is there a reason for that? It's a good bit cheaper to get the classic key than the interactive for MT5 keyway
It is not just the keyway. There are security features that are not in the Mul-T-Lock classic. The Interactive+ and MT5+ are also restricted keys. It is harder to get them copied without proper authorization.
The Mul-T-Lock Classic will definitely be better than a Kwikset or Schlage lock, but not as good as Interactive+ or MT5+

I'ts interesting question, I've never tried this before with Mul-T-Lock High Security Deadbolt and as far as August Smart Lock compatibility Deadbolt Mul T Lock is not on the list :-( check the list here: support.august.com/customer/portal/articles/2156679-deadbolt-compatibility?b_id=10917 There is a solution but only for professional locksmith installer.

You missed several points of these locks.
1 the grade 2 deadbolt why the black sleeve or the black rod in the center of the bolt.
Mul T lock
You didn't infrom your listeners about the sleeve on the lock inner body or the purpose of the ball bearings on the bolt or about the harden pins in the lock to prevent drilling.
Last of your lock is only as strong as your jamb .

Besides its constructive criticism for your next video :D well anyways for the ball bearing on the MTL there's this attack where they put a jack horizontally on the door frame and they try to jack it to push the door frame apart, so they put a ball bearing so you can't jack it pass that point ~ but that's just something I picked up researching these types of lock, I am sure it serves other purposes...

Come on! Multi lock on your doors? What do you do if you loose your keys? There is such a thing as too much security! Buy a decent lock that fits your budget and is practical! Multi lock? Yeah right! Hope you have a way inside if you loose your keys!
Yes there is a way to get inside your house if you lose your keys.
Option 1 is to keep the ID card information that’s comes with the Mul T Lock with you and just go to a local locksmith near you that can make you a duplicate key by the key code on that ID card.
2nd option if you do not have the ID card information with you, so try to contact a local locksmith that can bypass, pick or drill the lock or get you to your house from a side/back/garage door etc.
Final conclusion:
There is always ways to getting to your property if you lost your keys even if you have high security locks.
The Advantage is that you get a much better security with this High Security Locks that’s gonna make burglars walk away in most cases.

I don't know any locksmith locally who deals in multi locks! It's easier to buy a good Kwikset or Schlage and have a locksmith make it pick proof, and be able to get keys made at my local hardware store. $200 bucks, correction $400 bucks for deadbolts? This isn't happening! Then the cost of making the keys! I'd rather not sleep in my car or a motel! And if I was married with kids? Get real! I'd be tempted to take sledge hammer to the front door, then scrap the multi locks! No, I'm not using multi locks or medeco locks! Too expensive and impractical! This is why I have insurance and a 12 gauge shotgun! Plus inside heavy duty door bolts!
No locksmith in this planet 🌎 can make Kwikset or Schlage Deadbolt a “Pick Proof” and definitely not drill proof !
If you want security you’ll have to pay for it there is no shortcuts at this point

I will say that you are at your best when you are into your "This is how you do all this" mode. We have had a lot of break-ins in the city where I live and I have enjoyed going through your videos to see if there is anything I have missed or that I could do that is not too much more money. Fortunately, we have not been broken into and I want to keep it that way. I have cameras and bigger strike plates installed. Hopefully that is enough to either scare away or stop someone.
