I had installed one of these years ago when looking after a parent with Alzheimer's to prevent from leaving the house and wandering. It's also considered a childproof lock. It was super easy to install.
It’s good to prevent Young child to open, but as they grow up they will definitely figure it out. In some rare cases if the child attend to open the front door pretty often I recommend to add a double-sided deadbolt (key both sides). yet again it is not recommended for emergency’s and life protection and you may also ask your local building department office if it’s even legal by building code etc. another option is to put a door sensor that will alert you when someone open the door and there is many smart locks that will send you put notification to your smart phone when someone open the door, check out this video for more information: ruclips.net/video/RoM_I4DlYhk/видео.html
@@S.E.Locksmith You should have showed us how hard it is to break in with that on. That would be an awesome test to see if it would hold the door. Because others said it could bend because it's not made in steel. Something to think about.
I just installed this on my door. I picked it up at Home Depot. A drill and a 1/8” drill bit was all I need. These install instructions are great. I did not have to chisel. I installed this in less than 2min.
Great video! I'd like to add a few comments. I have one of these locks at home. It is very important to use 3 inch long screws as shown in the video. There are many different manufacturers of this exact same type of locking device which you can buy on-line or at your local hardware store. Unfortunately, some come with much shorter screws, like 1.5 or 2 inches long. Throw these screws away and buy some 3 inch long screws, because the 3 inch long screws are long enough to penetrate deep into your 2x4 door-frame, which will make the lock super strong. Also, many of these locking devices come in two-packs, so you can install two on the same door-frame, one at shoulder-height and one at knee-height. Then, absolutely no-one will be able to break or kick down your door, unless it's a SWAT team with a battering ram.
Older homes have thicker molding around doors and windows, this actually make things a bit stronger but you may find that thickness interferes with installing something like this. If your molding around the door is thick you may have to chisel or rout out the edge of that molding for the reinforcement lock to fit correctly.
Great Demonstration & installation Of this product I have several of this product brought of Amazon 15 dollar and investment, best product on the market
Thank-you for this great demonstration. I appreciate the thorough explanation of the chiseling method; exactly what I needed to understand, prior to my installation. Thanks again!
I live in a condo with a steel door frame and less than an 1/8" gap between the door and door frame. Any suggestions on what else might work to secure the front door?
The trim on my Door Jamb sticks out above the door panel level - about 0.4" Any thoughts about installing this product on my door? Basically, If I install this, it will sit about 0.4" above my door level to allow it to rotate freely.
maybe add something to the black pad on the lock to take up the space, then it would be thicker there and sit right against the door like it is designed to do. Maybe a piece of thick rubber tile, if you use contact cement I bet it would bond very well, might take two layers but you get the idea.
You could add a screw with eye and add a chain & little handle on it so it would be easier for you to open it. Someone made one. Now, I believe it's available on the marketplace.
Two questions #1 Appears it is for doors with no glass?..otherwise a burglar could reach in after breaking glass and undue?..#2..Does it matter if door swings open to the left or right?
If you have a wood door with glass in the middle so this lock would not do any good if he break the glass, honestly what does it matter anyway if a burglar break in the glass he gets into your property so you think that this Lock will do any good? For your second question: no it doesn’t matter if it’s a left or right handed door
Hi my wood door frame is 2.5 inch, so if i use the 3 inch screw, then I should use a wood drill bit to drill a 2.5 inch hole through the wood door frame first, then switch to a concrete drill bit to drill a further half inch hole through the concrete. Is it like that ? Thank you.
So if you have only 2.5 inch long frame you can use 2.5 inch screws instead, it would be good as well, but if you want to go deeper so yes you can do what you said but be careful and make sure you do it with all the right tools and safety measures.
You did a great job and I commend you. Only thing I would add is, I most home invaders will use their foot to kick up a door so a lower location under the handle would probably be a better spot.
Yes this is correct, It’s only for inswing doors. But if you want more reinforcement take a look at my video about the strike plate: ruclips.net/video/5h2xYwtnBXM/видео.html or: ruclips.net/video/SyYbZzuHn3Q/видео.html
Looks fantastic but I need one for an outward opening door it would be for the garage door so that I can secure the door from the inside when I am alone and my husband is out of town in case somebody gets into my garage they are unable to open my door to the house but it opens into the garage
If it’s an outward opening door so you don’t need it. If you want some extra security put an extra deadbolt lock on your doors and I recommend the MUL-T-LOCK MT5+ Hercular Deadbolt ruclips.net/video/u3ilURfCFzY/видео.html And also put security door strike plate for reinforcement etc.
I’m not really sure if it will work for you. Please send me a pictures of your door to the email in our about page of the channel and we’ll to help you out.
If I have a wood door but metal frame with concrete behind the frame instead of wood studs, could I screw it into the metal frame? If my gap is smaller than 1/8 ", could i chisel a mortise on the edge of the door?
Just put a Metal wrap around the door locks and this will reinforce the wood door. Check out this video for more information: Door Reinforcement 101 - Silver Eagle Locksmith ruclips.net/video/lnZPm6UOhRE/видео.html

Gobi (or is it Coby?), I have a question. The door you are fastening the lock to, and another video I watched as well, show the lock being attached to a flat surface. My door has the older moulding, in two levels. Is it necessary to mortice out the moulding as well, or will the lock be able to accommodate the existing moulding? Thanks.
Hi Dexter, sorry to get back to you only now... got a lot of people asking me questions here. by the way my name is Koby..for your question now I'm pretty sure the best way for you to install it will be to mortice out the moulding and than install the lock.
Use a hammer and tap on the part that slide the lock and after that try to lubricant the lock and try again when the door is unlocked and if it’s still not working, then replace it with a new one
This tutorial was very clear and easy to understand. The problem I am having is that the lock does NOT open and my handyman can't open it either. Is there a trick to opening this up ? Please explain, thank you.
Deadbolt always come first because of building standards and you’ll need a key to get in to the house anyway so for my opinion get both of them installed
In rather for this lock to keep people from breaking into your house you will have to lock it first and exit a different door of course because you can lock it only from the inside. This lock is made of light duty metal but the screws that connect to it are 3 inch long and that way it’s reinforced the door from burglary
You should have made more relief cuts before chiseling running horizontal, looks like you took a huge piece out. Making the cuts helps to keep it more even when cutting a mortise. Also using the side of the hammer is easier than the face of the hammer for small chiseling.
Can you please have a new video showing someone trying to break the door down using your barricade device I would like to see how effective it is but I already did buy one and installed it thank you

Good lord. Why would you be SO concerned about 4 short screws, enough to write multiple comments about them? LOL. Did you ever think that there may be other people with different situations that might require short screws? Use the long screws if you can. If you can't, for some reason, like a window is right next to your door, or whatever, use the damn short screws. LMAO. Turns out, common sense is not that common. If I were you, I'd call a professional in for the install.
