It was not until after Michael was locked in the cage that they could see they were lied to - and even then many didn't understand what that meant because Michael indoctrinated them into becoming soldiers of heaven that executed God's plan which, in reality, was always just Michael's plan to get God to return to heaven.
Hate the way Dean be acting towards Jack and Cas now onwards. People say that Dean was mad about what he did to Mary and try to justify his actions, and I understand, but Dean is emotional, not an emotional fool devoid of humanity. Yeah, he's supposed to be mad and grieving, and he should be, but he won't ever treat Jack like a monster... He played a part in raising the kid. Dean is not heartless... Terrible writing which only destroyed his beautiful character :(
@Pro Jey96 I could be wrong, but when he called him "that thing" he didn't yet know that it was genuinely Sam, just without a soul. He suspected him of being some kind of monster and not Sam at all.

Bruh at one point in the early seasons Dean gave up on Sam, if you were raised like Dean you'd feel the same
The writing has been bad in the recent seasons but I don't think that was one of bad parts
