Hi. I'm one of the people who criticised you on your video on your other Channel when you got the hens. I even went as far to say that you were playing at Homesteading. I would now like to apologise and say that I was wrong. Since following this channel I realise that you are fully committed and that all your family are on board. I love the content and the interaction between you and Kayvan and can't wait to see how the house and homestead develop. I wish you lots of luck and hope you get the house in a liveable condition before the grant cut off date. You really are living the dream and thanks for sharing it with us.
Hello, we very much appreciate your comment. It is a strong individual who is willing to entertain a contrary opinion, and an even stronger individual to change their mind and accept their new position. We are pleased to have you along for the ride!
It’s a great start - stud out the interior walls and ceiling, add insulation. Cut a hole in the roof for a stove pipe - add a small wood burner in the corner - and you can be comfortable in the coming winter months. You’ll be cold, damp and miserable without having completed these final steps - a little stove goes a long way toward happiness….
@@SimonEllwood - Ha! I’m with you on adding insulation, an actual roof, and a way to heat it. But.. This is Ireland. You will NEVER EVER NEVER, not-even-a-little-bit, need AC here. ( I know..hard to imagine such a thing, but as a New Yorker who moved to northwestern Ireland ten years ago - you can take this to the bank) Haven’t been warm since 2015…..
Brilliant, I am thinking about one doing this too. Can you share where you got it and the model?? Also, are you going to insulate it after the electrics, would love to see how ye get on.
Wow...very impressive for an internet purchase and a fast build. Great Job. Excellent location especially with the views. Time to make it cozy and warm before the weather gets cooler.
Good morning from Ohio, USA. I must say that I am very proud of both of you! Your positivity and drive keep myself and others to cheer you on in this journey of life! Keep on pushing forward! You got this!! 🥰
Another YTuber, Maya Feliz, has a similar cabin on her property in Portugal. Be warned those interlocking corners are not watertight, so your stain will not prevent water ingress. Consider waterproofing the exterior corners. Once you add insulation inside and also maybe a small woodstove, you will be very cozy in there indeed. Nice!
At one point in our adventures, we were living in our caravan, aka, motor home. My wife's bed was the dining area folded down, our clothes closet was a pole over the front passenger seat, and my office was the driver's seat complete with computer and printer. I built a simple fold down table that was 400 mm wide and 700 mm long. We did that for about a year until we upgraded to a much bigger motor home. We never went anywhere during this time, 6 long years.
You two, a perfect blend of bubbly and stoic hilarity. Congrats on the flat pac, that was an amazing surprise. And I can only imagine what a blessing it is to have it done.
Why didn't you trowel the concrete smooth? You are eventually going to have a problem where the pressure treated base meets the concrete you need to at least calk the joint with maybe Butyl calk so water doesn't go underneath and maybe with some and some 4" or 6" Butyl tape flashing. I would also put some round louvered vents in the bottom row of siding of the cabin in each bay between the joists and in the pressure treated base on the porch at both ends for air flow so you don't get trapped moister between he concrete and the wood floor
interesting shed design, will you be putting some flat insulation and Drywall on the inside? just thinking of winter and heating? rather pretty on the hillside I think.
@@offgridirishhomestead rigid insulation is really cheap, if winter gets a bit chilly in the office, putting up the insulation, then covering it later will still stave off the cold. you could even put up some 1x6 to keep that cabin feel over it if not drywall. Back burner idea for now, but should you need it... :) The cabin is really cute, hope it works well for you!
Stuck one of these up myself last spring to replace an existing one that was absolutely rotten ( don’t know how old it was but it was there when I bought the place twenty years ago) it is a bit bigger a lot brighter and has been taken over as a “ garden room “ by the ladies in my life so now I have to go and get a replacement for my old garden shed again. Myself and two actually quite enthusiastic teenagers put it up in a weekend ( we did the pad the weekend before but we mixed the concrete in the old reliable mixer ourselves again two enthusiastic teenagers) it was simple enough to put up and very well made as you said doors needed a bit of minor tweaking but I was probably just being a bit anal other than that it was a breeze. For the money quite honestly I expected it to be a bit of a challenge and poor quality but it was neither. I wired it up on weekend three and at this point I knew that I had been evicted so as I had left a spare duct when I was putting in the power I stuck in a water line so that it has water laid on for the out door kitchen ( barbecue with an old Belfast sink and a gas hob just in case) which took out the June bank holiday weekend. Enjoying your channel .😊
What a great studio! Keep putting the preservative on, timber needs it in this climate. Also add some concrete bricks to lift the timbers off the concrete slab and add a weatherboard around the raised edge. The wind and rain (they are a horizontal pressure treatment in this part of the world) will find its way through all the unsealed joints too. Perhaps a ventilation gap then a membrane and decent insulation will keep it cosy. A heat retainng wall, big stones?, would help keep it keep comfortable on those days when the sun, wind and clouds are up to tricks.
The story on the belt situation cracked me up. My husband has used many things, rope, zip ties, wire on occasion, I’ve even seen O rings holding his pants up. lol The man is so rough on clothes I joke he should be the test dummy for companies claiming their products are indestructible. There was a company that sold fire hose pants that had a life time warranty and he destroyed so many pairs and sent them back they changed their policy. I always tease him that unbeknownst to him he must be a legend at the company for being the quintessential rough rider who decimated all of the supposed indestructible garmets. 😅 In the states we call the rope wearing men “red necks” Welcome to the red neck club! 🙂 Some of the hardest working people I know!!
I know this has nothing to do with the cabin which is lovely but I saw you struggling with the slugs try saving your egg shells crush them up and spread them like a barrier around the base of the plants it is good for the soil as well as keeping the slugs out.

A superb result, based on skilled construction and good quick stain before rain. The product I would really like,if it could be packaged - I know it can’t be - is the horizontal calmness of the build !!!👍😁 Great video. Thank you. Phil, Suffolk.
For an internet gamble, that looks to have worked out really well, massive help when the instructions make sense. With that being just pine (pays your money and all that ) it’s going to take a fair bit of weatherproofing but what a lovely place to work from.
Built something similar in our last place to wfh. With 100mm insulation top bottom and sides it was perfect in spring and autumn, hot in summer and freezing in winter. Also nw facing. If u can add even more insulation and what i found helped us was a bitcoin miner during the night (seriously lol didnt make much but heated it well overnight and covered electricity cost, was well cosy in morning) and added that to a thermostatic plug with a simple oil heater plug to automatically turn on when dipped below 12 and turn off when went above 17.
100mm insulation all round, should have been perfect!! No thermal mass, but would have expected it to heat up double quick. Yeah not expecting this to be very good at thermal management, but with a little blown air heater hoping it should be comfortable enough. Failing that, i'll stick a mini stove in it. Wood stove in a wood cabin, what could go wrong.... Bitcoin took a massive crash recently didnt it? Have a friend doing AI cpu time share on dedicated rigs with 4+ GPUs. Payback period is currently looking like currently 12 months.
Looks as if you could enclose the porch portion to make a small second office if needed. Nice. Strongly recommend insulating it and putting at least some corrugated steel roofing for long term durability.

I would add A/C as it will heat, cool and dehumidify and be cheap to run in that size space. That would be after the insulation of course!
This comment. That shed needs a proper roof put on also or water is going to pour in through those slats no matter how tight they think they are.
