From comments you have made it is obvious you don't have any experience with horses. However, you have an EXTREMELY valuable resource there that you are not using. AND much cheaper than other motorized suggestions!! Maybe you have a neighbor who can help teach you or, better yet, your daughter. Also, there are lots of info online (you tube university) to help her/you learn. Both of you are intelligent, hard working people which is usually passed on to the children. I was wrong about you two. I thought you were too pretty to succeed . Now you are one of my favorite homesteaders. Keep up the hard work and I hope you enjoy the efforts and the rewards at the end of the process.
I think your hair looks adorable and very creative to use a dress belt. Also I would happily donate to an ATV (that's what we call them in Canada) fund for a vehicle and cart. You could be saving hours to do other work and you put out such great content I'd consider it reimbursement. Lovely to see how the Irish countryside looks in the fall. Greetings from Alberta, Canada 🍁
Is it my imagination, or have you become remarkably CHILLED despite your challenges ? Maybe, just maybe, Ireland is working it's magic on you all 😘 Welcome to Ireland, btw 😎
Re filling sacks...you are bound to have an old bucket lying about with a similar circumference to your sack. Knock the bottom out of the bucket place this 'collar' inside your empty sack....the rigidity makes filling the sack so much easier. Sending everything good your way. 🎉❤🎉
Hiya, my horse needs a bunch of training too, so she justifies her existence by producing compost! Horse poo can go straight on the garden. If you graze them up there, you won’t even have to lug it up the hill. 😅
Well for me a dishwasher is the best. But you should swop the tumble dryer to be in top of with the washing machine or dishwasher. That way you can use it perfectly❤
Growing garlic is one of the easiest crops to grow! Mix in some bone meal for root growth and good compost. Once planted, just make sure to cover with straw or other mulch to protect from freezing. It is so satisfying to see the green shoots in the spring and get that harvest in summer! Love watching your Irish activities each week.
Seriously you guys need to get yourself a four-wheel drive ATV with a pull behind wagon. Save yourself a whole lot of energy going up and down that Hill
I was thinking use the horses to drag a width of chain link fencing to clear a path wide enough for a tractor when you can afford one. Even change the path if an easier way is discovered.
There has to be a dealer out there who could 'sponsor' a farm atv. Good marketing I'd imagine. Saying that I understand they are working on a budget and can't just go out and get one..
I would use that insulation you saved and put it around the bottom of your camper for the winter it will help a lot. I loved that double take of you both on the wood chips and love the humour and banter between you both. Have a lovely day.
I am watching from America. I love watching folk live their dream life! Your hard work is an adventure that will pay off in spades. It’s also fun that you’re going to have a video log to look back on. Good luck and blessings on your endeavors!
I wanna move to Ireland bc its so beautiful! Wanna homestead and raise my own animals and garden. Anyways...yall are the cutest couple! At 57 I regret not finding my life long husband but I have my sons and a grandson Im so fortunate to have. Enjoy watching yall so much...keep making each other happy...its all that matters in the end.
Ireland is a beautiful part of the world no doubt about it. Sounds like you are Stateside, plenty of wonderful equally spectacular wilderness opportunities on your side of the Atlantic. You are only just getting started at 57! Thanks for following along
Love the utility area! Much better than the previous location(s) having it all in one space is going to be much easier for you. You two are definitely grafters with moving all of those clippings up the hills! 😮💨 it really is a juggling act with all that is to be done and you’re doing great and all of the things that make jobs easier to do will come eventually. Manual work is hard but like you say sometimes it is the only way at the time to get things done. Always need a high vis for bbq-ing! 😂 That is a stunning stunning sunset! Your love for the place you live in shines through ❤ I completely agree with you on the why you are doing the homestead part and wanting to get that up and running. You carry on and do exactly what YOU want to do. It makes sense to us having got our land and outside under control all the while people asking why are we doing that and not the house. It’s your dream life and you get to choose however you want to do it, enjoy it all. P.s yes you are also allowed to still complain 😂
Ahh, thank you folks, we really appreciate your thoughtful comment. We have not been able to keep up with your progress - need to make more of an effort. Your home is already beautiful, going to be drop dead gorgeous when you are done with it.
@ no problem at all, there’s only so many hours in a day to fit everything in isn’t there 😂 keeping up with comments is our struggle at the moment! 🫣 Fingers crossed we can do it justice! 🫣 We’re a bit slow so it could take some time! 🤣
Dishwashers are more economical than washing by hand. As for the temporary spot up so high...Keyvan is taller so packing/unpacking would be easier for him (wink wink nudge nudge) 😂
Put some harnesses on them ponies, and get them to help, there do much faster, and as for the dishwasher, 👍whilst it doing the washing up, gives you time to do other stuff
Amazing that you are still smiling and find the humor in these enormous tasks. I hope you're keeping track of your daily steps, honestly those hikes up and down are exhausting. All while the ponies watch your every move I think I'd formulating a plan of hitching a wagon to those ponies and have them earn their keep. Getting your appliances indoors before winter is a smart move, and purchasing another freezer for your harvest will come in handy for many years to come. I'd definitely pass on the idea of lugging dirty/ clean dishes back and forth to use the dishwasher especially in cold and freezing temperatures unless...Kayvan is volunteering 😂
We are just so glad you can have a good laugh together with all you are doing and have to do it makes everything worth while tcx now blessings to you all the oldies 🤗🤗🤗👍
I'd put your dryer on top of the washing machine and put the dishwasher on the ground level. Should be fine for the dryer and better for the dishwasher.
Have you priced motorized wheelbarrows? They take up the footprint of a regular wheelbarrow. The time you would save might be worth it. 😊. Love your channel. Thanks for sharing 😊
We have indeed, someone suggested a Hyundai model in the comments not long ago. They look like the perfect bit of kit around here. Unfortunately even the lower end priced versions are out of our budget right now :( Thanks for following along
You two are the most amazing couple.. I cannot believe how far you’ve come . it’s going to be amazing when it’s done . Sending hugs and warm thoughts from California
I love that you keep your sense of humour even under all the pressure. I admire that trait in both of you. I haven't commented before so I want to add that you're a lovely couple who will definately conquer & flourish. Great example for your children. I await your vlogs in anticipation every week. Wish I could wave a magic wand & conjure up tractor & trailer for you.
Love you guys. The hard work you are putting in will only make you healthy. When we had our old place and farm I was so much healthier getting outside and kept in shape with the hard work. Now I just sit on my bum and watch shows like yours lol. Plus you'll be able to sit and enjoy a glass of wine by a fire when all the work is done and smile with satisfaction, but wait haha. Older places are a continuous labor of love! ❤ For now roll up those sleeves and keep us watchers entertained! 😊
Hard work and labour of love indeed! You are absolutely , there is an element of continuous work. Hoping that we do the jobs well enough first time round, that we can get everything we plan done before starting back round again! Thanks for following along
One thing's sure,Kayvan will be a strong and fit mule! 😂 Whether it's more efficient or not, I think it woukd be easier to wash the dishes in the caravan ,than to haul dishes back and forth! Best wishes for the coming winter. I hope you can stay warm!
Heck, I would strap that insulation on all sides of my caravan and then tarp it. That would be great additional warmth for the winter, Great video as always!
An idea for Hillary. On a show I watch they were trying to find a way to bring pieces of a large tree off the side of hill that was covered in trees. They created a pulley system to bring huge chunks down. Now you don't have the trees to connect a cable system too but possibly down the road can put in posts to create a track of sorts for the cable and pulleys then can fashion some sort of large 'bag' to bring things up and down the hill. I think they used a gas powered winch to pull the cables but can't remember for sure. Might be something to look into for a possible side quest for Kayvan! And the belt in your hair, Cori, looks wonderful! I agree that maybe the dryer can go on top of either the washer or dryer to make using the dishwasher easier or Kayvan has another side quest to make you a foot stool that will give the height needed as dishwasher stands now. Or as another suggested if he's offering to haul dishes back and forth from the caravan! 😂 Love watching your adventures and progress! Thank you for sharing!
I would stack the washer+dryer (dryer ontop of washing machine) and then have the dishwasher on the ground. I think I would loose living room apendage for patio doors, and possibly loose the back bedroom one to have a backing wall for the headboard. I would swap out the ensuite external door for a window instead of trying to brick up a whole door into that lovely stone... Id be tempted to loose the front bedroom apendage for patio doors also BUT love your nook idea too... I wouldn't scrap the idea fully of the walk in wardrobe just so you dont need to loose bedroom space for a wardrobe. Enjoying your channel and welcome again to Ireland 💚
Get the ponies/horses earning their keep. Secondhand harness, DIY sled, and you won't have to lug stuff up that hill. Garlic -- make sure it does not get waterlogged during winter.
I think a little removable platform in front of the dishwasher would allow Cori to reach it and the freezer too. Whatever your views about dishwashers, less washing up in the caravan means less humidity, even if you have a dehumidifier (well worth designing into the renovations). It is a pity the garage wasn't retained with the house.
Pity indeed, would have made our lives so much easier. Spot on about the humidity, it is already starting to cause problems. Nice idea re: platform - thanks! We appreciate you.
hi there. if it were me then i would buy a skid steer (formely know as a bobcat) instead off a quad. becasue i would use that one to haul things and make diffrent roads and so on but that is me. i followed a guy that breed bison and so on and he called his skid steer in a ironic way for a "mechanised ranch pony" hehe hope you have a great day! :)
Hold on to that insulation. You never know what it might be handy for. I am using a bit of left over floor insulation to insulate the top of my beehives and also for a couple of cat boxes. Well your one up on us with the dishwasher! We used two bowls, a tap and a kettle in an outdoor shed for a year. Lots of great comments here about using the horses to get heavy loads up your hill. I dont know anything about training horses but its a good idea, perhaps worth the time investment.
It is pretty battered, but too good to chuck in a skip. I like your recycling uses of it, nice! Washing up after a full roast dinner on a Sunday (which is hard graft in itself in a caravan as I know you will appreciate), is just too much. So while not an absolute necessity, it is a handy one. Would be great to put the horses to work wouldn't it! Something we have been talking about for sure. Excited to hear about your CCC inspection!
@offgridirishhomestead we're giving that feedback tomorrow 😁 another far fetched idea, but would be a great series is some sort of industrial drone... May be cheaper to get a second hand lawn mower tho. Keep an eye on done deal. I got mine locally. 6 mo tha old 4 hours on the clock at less than half price privately. Always see cheaper ones for couple hundred with the deck rusted away or gone, but the engine would still be fine for pulling. Trailer is only a few hundred too. We've dragged trees, telegraph poles rubble and rubbish sea weed and of course compost and mulch. Handy to keep grass cut and not to big to be bulky heavy or costly
The height of the dishwasher means that Kayvan will need to be the dishwasher loader and he will soon either find a rhythm and declare it to be brilliantly worthwhile or ... not so much. Either way, you can just say "go forth and experiment" and leave it to him. I personally like to do most dishes by hand but once in a while I do a load in a dishwasher. You probably will figure out something like that. It is nice to have that option when you have made a big mess/batch, etc. What a relief to have those machines indoors for the winter.
two ponies eating away watching you carrying! Shure you could utilize their help, i think they would enjoy helping the cause so Kayvan the "donkey" can be better utilized!
You need a “dog cart” or harness for the ponies. Your daughter would love riding in one probably as much as I did as a child. They are also practical for hauling.
Love you guys! There are 2 things I look forward to on Sundays. One is worshipping , and anxiously awaiting your weekly videos! I know that you two are working very hard, but it always looks so fun😂! Kayvan, you are "THE MAN".
Moving stuff, how about those two freeloaders in the paddock. I would have though two bulk bags one per side, get some advice, there should be someone who knows something about horses in Ireland.
It must be really tough growing, harvesting, weeding while preparing for the renovation but it will be rewarding in due course. Keep up the good work and high spirits.
Great video, I definitely don't think that you should hold off with the homesteading part. That's why you're doing what you are and it brings as much joy as the work put in. You have been incredibly successful with it already and the sooner you start the more you can get established. I'm sure you are very excited that things are going to be happening soon, and you are not going to be doing it all yourselves. Take care and keep enjoying yourselves. Cheers from Cape Town.❤️
It is always best to set up your food production/wage earning pieces before making a really comfy cosy nest to live in. I think all the really successful people do it that way round. You set up a remote work situation before you got the land and now you are developing the food aspect. Good for you!
I hope you two are considering a comment someone made last week where you switch the bath/bedroom end of the house to the other (new) end of the home and then make that room with the fireplace into a kitchen, and the room that has the toilet into a mudroom/pantry. Then the bump-out part can be opened up to a new dining area that faces the patio. This will certainly solve the problem of where to put the bed, and you can create a much better laid out bath, too.
We appreciate all suggestions and comments, we are open minded about our plans and like the inspiration from others. However the location of the bedroom with the kitchen/diner being part of a later phase including an extension is something which is an easy decision for us as it ticks so many of our boxes. Pushing the most time consuming and costly room in the house (the kitchen) into a separate phase which doesn't block us getting our master bedroom finished and us moved in to the cottage. We can understand why folks would suggest the alternative layout though - on paper it makes a lot of sense. Fear not, it will all make sense when it is done! Thanks for following along
Love your channel. I laughed when K-Man said while BBQ: Safety first , while the sparks from the BBQ were flying up under a wooden summerhouse. Hahah. Keep up the great work.
Keep up the good work with your growing.. I planted my garlic today... and my onions go in this weekend.. along with some more chard and more brassicas ..also watch your woodchip as they will start creating heat and composting down if they are kept in a bag or huge pile as there's lots of green in with the brown.. lay it asap 😊.. also put the dryer on top of the washing machine and the dish washer on the floor 😁👍
Our onions (seed) planted in April are yet to be harvested, hoping something is going on beneath the surface. Sounds like you have your plantings buttoned up - jealous! Re: Woodchip pile - noted, thanks.
USB LED rechargeable work lamps could act as a short term lighting solution for you. They last 15 hours on a dingle charge and are inexpensive from Amazon UK. Cheaper still if you buy them from Amazon France/Germany cos there’s NO import duty. Use Google Translate to handle transaction translation requirements.
Just found your channel and I am hopping up and down in excitement. My husband and I bought a farmhouse and 10 acres of olive trees in Sicily and, while our land is not as overgrown as your land, our house needs at least as much work. We are quite a bit older than you (maybe 20 years older?) and so, much of the house renos we can't do. We are going completely off grid - all solar power, off town water, etc. We are, however, working the land. We just picked 1000 kg of olives which is just damn hard work so very happy to have help with the house. The other thing that makes me excited is that we are thinking about looking for a cottage in Ireland as a holiday home so we can get away from the ridiculous summer heat in Sicily. I am going to get caught up with your videos and watch for new ones with anticipation!
Could you possibly get a local person to come in and make the track wider for yourselves, and get them to take your mulch up the hill. This is to make it easier for yourselves. Maybe give them some of your produce as payment.
well you need to train your horses to pull a smalltrailer or wear panniers so they can move stuff up the hill.
Can't you stack the washing machine and dryer and put the dishwasher on the ground😊
From comments you have made it is obvious you don't have any experience with horses. However, you have an EXTREMELY valuable resource there that you are not using. AND much cheaper than other motorized suggestions!! Maybe you have a neighbor who can help teach you or, better yet, your daughter. I agree. It would give them a job, help move supplies up Hilary, and teach horsemanship.
I was also thinking that the literal pack animals on your land might be useful to haul stuff for you.
Great comment, we appreciate you.

The old adage, don't judge a book by its cover definitely applies to us :) Thanks for following along.
U should put insulation around ur camper van at the bottom to keep it warm inside 😊
Interesting!
That’s what I thought

Humorously every time I see you go up and down the hill, I think - Mini Train on its own track! Yes I know a bit fanciful! :)
D6 aim it from the cottage to vege patch and let it go
😂
I load dish washer from side by sink. Anything to make winter more survivable. Go Kayman the donkey. Loving your channel guys ❤
Thanks a mil!
I had never heard of a belted Galway either until we saw several in a small herd in South Dakota, of all places. Sort of a strange looking cow
Maybe an electric garden cart could work?
Yesssss🎉
You guys make super hard work look fun, keep laughing, you are doing amazing work 💪💪💪👍
Get the ponies/horses earning their keep. Secondhand harness, DIY sled, and you won't have to lug stuff up that hill. Garlic -- make sure it does not get waterlogged during winter.
We definitely need to put them to work
Kayvan, those lookalike pompoms hanging down your hood are very endearing, you look like a wee baba!
I thought he looked like Andy Pandy 😂
😂
At first glance I thought he had plaits!
Could you get a farmer neighbor to harness train one of the ponies to hall a skid?
I think it would be much more efficient to wash the dishes by hand, it's just too labor intensive to be carrying the dishes back and forth. 😊❤
It’s so satisfying when you accomplish moving stuff that due to it being underfoot for so long becomes invisible to you.
Please do check out how to make a garden cart from 2 wheel bike . Neighbour made himself one worked like a charm
❤
Thanks guys for another enjoyable video. Must admit, loved the end lol , thanks for the humour from NZ
hi there.
if it were me then i would buy a skid steer (formely know as a bobcat) instead off a quad.
becasue i would use that one to haul things and make diffrent roads and so on but that is me.
i followed a guy that breed bison and so on and he called his skid steer in a ironic way for a "mechanised ranch pony" hehe
hope you have a great day! :)
You guys are making a decision to eat healthy. This is so important when you are working so hard.
How about an electric wheelbarrow?
It has been a game changer for us!
This! Would be the perfect bit of kit for us.
Keeping such a positive attitude in the face of all the work ahead is so refreshing love watching your videos ❤
I like your style! Yes indoors for all these appliances makes so much more sense. Took a bit of experimenting to come to this conclusion though.
Definitely time for you guys to buy a side by side to cart your stuff around!
💯
our doing great
two ponies eating away watching you carrying! Shure you could utilize their help, i think they would enjoy helping the cause so Kayvan the "donkey" can be better utilized!
You need a “dog cart” or harness for the ponies. Your daughter would love riding in one probably as much as I did as a child. They are also practical for hauling.
Awesome you two. Just watching both of you hauling stuff up and down that hill makes my legs and abs hurt lol.
God Bless and luved seeing the ponys!!!
A Goldcrest according to Merlin Bird ID app
You beat me to it. I just commented same. Love that app.
Woot! We need to get this app.
Awww come on hen help him Wi that fridge!
Thank you!
Thank you as always!
It is always best to set up your food production/wage earning pieces before making a really comfy cosy nest to live in. I think all the really successful people do it that way round. You set up a remote work situation before you got the land and now you are developing the food aspect. Good for you!
Thank you!
😂
Yes, I thought that too!
Wheel barrow would help! Maybe 2!!@😅😊❤
That sunset when doing the bbq is just beaut. And you all get to experience for the foreseeable future. Class 😎👌🏻
Perfection right!
Those ponies can get goods up Hillary with pack saddles or a little wagon
Wow ye have a lovely view of the water from yer house
Could you possibly get a local person to come in and make the track wider for yourselves, and get them to take your mulch up the hill. This is to make it easier for yourselves. Maybe give them some of your produce as payment.
