Since the early 90's, my woodcarving shop has been right next to Pairpoint and down the road from the Sandwich Glass Museum. Years ago, I used to make blocks and paddles for them out of apple wood. Their creations still fascinate me to this day.
One of the most glorious glass pieces i have ever seen, like water splash moment, or blue flame, just utterly beautiful, brought tears to my eyes. Amazing teamwork, skills and artistry.
The teamwork is amazing. You have to really trust someone to create art together like this. I LOVE these artist demonstrations. I can't watch them to fall asleep because I end up wanting to see the final piece every time. Such a beautiful way to create art. I wish I could do this.
Dont know your name, speaker Lady, but your soooo good, i Think you could comment anything, never thought i would notis such a thing, but your the reason, im here, i know nothing about glas-art, but you made me watch 2 hours this night … 👑 thank you Lady
as a kid, back in the day, I am 63 now, used to go to ports o Call in San Pedro Cal. n I LOVED watching the glass blowers, they made mini items n animals, I was fasinated, and I still am today, thank you for sharing I LOVED this!
Omygosh! I'd forgotten all about that. Now I remember. Ports O' Call was a marketplace near the docks. I loved watching the glass blowers as a kid (this was in the '60s/'70s). I wanted to learn how to do that. My dad worked in a glass bottle factory and would sometimes make little glass animals from the defective bottles. I still have a few.. Thanks for the memories.
Absolutely beautiful. Breathtaking! I'd never have the patience for this, never!!! Wish there were more after shots, different angles and stuff. It really is a work of art.
I love the format of this video. The narration and the camera's setup at various lacations. It was very enjoyable to watch. The narrator did a great job at constantly letting us know whats going on.
Beautiful work!!! I absolutely love watching this. Even as a kid I wanted to be a glass blower but I have heat triggered asthma attacks. I did go into the fine arts and I love it but I sure wish I could have worked in glass too.
What an amazing, stunning piece of art! I thoroughly enjoyed watching all these artists perform a ballet while creating perfection. Congratulations Jim. E
Hi. I'm George. Watching in Johannesburg, South Africa. I used to make stained glass lamps and love anything glass. These guys are unbelievably talented and obviously love their art.
Omg that's jaw dropping.could you imagine the beautiful pieces that he has in his home.just make me a little tropical fish.love all the glass and colors.
This was SO well presented! It would be enjoyable to watch regardless, however the host offers exactly the right amount of narration with the tidbits of info that makes it even more fabulous. Camera angles and switches and everything... Brilliant.
*Chick on the internet says she's not impressed, host goes into explanation of this artist's credentials.* Lesson? "You can have your opinion. He's the success story, and therefore doesn't need your damn validation anyways. Toodles!" Beautiful!
I can imagine a mighty Doge of Venice, seated at his banquet, with a servant setting this in front of him! In it would be gold-gilt sweetmeats from the Far East. At a mere gesture, the servant would set an array of goodies on a matching plate, using tiny, chased, solid gold tongs. Head bowed, the plate would be presented to the great ruler. "Oohs" and "aahs" could be heard through the sumptuous hall! Eyes would glisten in admiration and envy! The noble Doge would smile, and turning his head to an honored guest, indicate that this elegant treat should be passed thereto. Hands would clap in appreciation of the honor! THAT"S where Mongrain's art belongs! Bravissimo!
I could watch a good glass blower all day long. If someone is bored by this, it is just that glass does not get their attention. I like to watch almost any kind of artist.
I am completely fascinated by this work! Especially how creative minds have to work together in this to execute everything. I do art and i just can't imagine working with so many people on one piece. :) Very nice video!
Thanks RUclips, I now have a new binge watching obsession. Thankfully it's a craft that doesn't...uhm fit within my budget...so my ADHD can't go "ooh let's learn that next" IYKYK 🤦♀️🤷♀️😂
Gorgeous, and such a crazy level of craftsmanship! I'd love to see the finished pieces in person, or even filmed in more rhan one type of lighting- they are absolutely beautiful, so very delicate and intricate looking.
A relative of mine visited the museum and called this morning to tell me how great it was... so being a millennial I immediately looked for them on RUclips. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised to see what a big channel they have, with a ton of different artists featured and all you could want to see without visiting. I'm impressed guys, good job!

I love these videos! This is going to sound like a really stupid question: I’m not sure if I’ve seen this demonstrated: when making the piece larger (ie creating space within a piece - in addition to centrifugal force and tools ), do they ever physically blow into the blow pipe or use a machine to do so?
Most pieces do start with an initial bubble being blown into the gather on the end of the blowpipe. From there, the piece can be further inflated with air--this was all done by blowing into the pipe but now we also have a device that uses a foot pedal to blow air into the pipe that came about with COVID times. In this demo, you can see the assistant adding air right after the 49:00 mark.
The audacity of that online commentator who said this wasn't impressive skill... its got to be embarrassing for people in her life to be around someone so loud and yet so unqualified.
Hi Charlotte, it depends on the project! A simple tumbler with no decoration could take 10 minutes and a complex sculpture with multiple types of decoration could be built over several days. Practice definitely makes it take a little less time as the gaffer and their team figure out the most efficient way to build a piece. Thanks for watching!
@@corningmuseumofglassThanks for filming :) My professor speaks highly of your Museum. I"m not sure if she did a residency there or not, but she encourages us to see what's going on over there :) as we are sculpture majors :)
