      Actually it's Lexus'. If a possessive ends with an S, you don't put in the second S.

    • @burkolicious
      @burkolicious 8 лет назад +11

      SMauler9 That's not right. If the word ends in an s because it's plural, you would put the apostrophe after the word. However, if it's singular, you add the extra "s" regardless.

    My first car was a 92 Lexus LS400. Bought it in 2005 after I graduated high school. It was a 1 owner with 180k miles and I paid $3000 cash for it . My dad was pissed for buying such high mileage car. I proved him wrong. These cars are indestructible. I sold mine at 260k miles in 2012 because I wanted a newer car. I regret it and should have kept it. It was still running strong. As longs as you keep up with the regular maintenance ; oil changes, tune ups, routine fluid changes, etc--you can expect these to run forever. I have many memories with my LS400... Best road trip car ever!

      It's so accurate too. You feel the bump, sorta.. but not in your back. However, the car doesn't bounce up and down, it basically just skips over it. You don't bounce up and down for 30 yards to absorb the bumps like you do in other land yachts.

    The center stack is definitely dates it straight into the 90's, but it still looks ahead of its time. The outside has a certain timeless look to it, that Lexus is now famous for. If you told me it was a '98, I'd believe you. If you swapped out the lights for LED brakelamps and projector headlamps, and replaced the grille, you could convince me it was a 2008.

    Don't hesitate to buy one of these, even if it looks beat up. I almost sold mine, and glad I didn't. Cosmetics can be corrected. If Tranny is good, and engine not leaking, buy it and make the needed repairs yourself. Especially if it mostly original and hasn't been modified unwisely. 280K miles is nothing for these FAA rated engines. Only use DENSO replacement parts. These have 4 mufflers and two CATs. The Tranny is the same one used in the trucks, the 3 inch thick shop manual says they designed tranny to handle 800hp. I have 280K miles w/ original exhaust system. No check engine light, but wasn't always that way. Original Struts/springs. Nothing rides better. Will have to fix the speakers one of these days, to enjoy that Nakamichi cassette / disk changer. The rear seat can comfortably carry three large people and every door has a cigarette lighter. If you get T-boned, you probably can still drive it, and probably will survive with minimal injury. I saw one of these side damaged from sliding into a telephone pole. The guy was still driving it. I was super impressed that the damage wasn't severe. After 27 years and not being garaged, the paint is faded but still holding up. The axle CV boots are not torn, I sprayed with ATP and put all synthetic fluids & Toyota red coolant I am probably the 4th owner. No problem this car can take real beating and can tolerate some neglect. Had to replace strut mounts only (not the struts/springs), upper control arms and most of the front end stuff. The rack & pinion may give leak problems..they can be chronic. Still leaking on driver side after replacing the rack assembly twice.

      Matt's was a 1996 2nd generation with 800,000+ miles on it when he bought it. In order to get it to the million mile goal, Matt enlisted friends and paid a few to drive around a track all day. Mostly, it was eager volunteers who manned the helm. Otherwise, Matt might have pooped-out before the car did, which is what my 1997 is doing - outlasting three of us octogenarians. Both previous owners died and my Lexus was sold by their estates. I'll do the same, giving my favorite charity the old road anvil, when I fail to turn-over one day.

    I owned a 93 LS400 as a daily for 22 years. Just sold it 6 months ago and outside of fluids and tires it never had an issue. I’ve owned several of the German marquees sedans and sports cars as a comparison and the LS400 was the best engineered thing I’ve ever owned. Ran like a new car till the day I sold it. Nuts.

    One thing that Lexus really concentrated on was the experience at the dealership. They really tried to make their customers feel special and well taken care of. That dealership experience is what cemented brand loyalty for a lot of Lexus owners.

    Those things might be built to a ridiculous standard, but that example has been maintained impeccably. If I could have found one of those where the interior hadn't been utterly destroyed then I probably would have gotten one as my first car. I mean, I was looking at a wide variety of possible car models for my first car and a Lexus was definitely on the list. A shame that most of the people in my area that bought them didn't actually have the class necessary to maintain them. Loads of shredded leather, peeling faux wood, scratched up plastics, and burnt carpets. The same was true of basically every single "luxury" car I looked at. Lincoln LS, Lexus SC300 and SC430, Jaguar S-type and X-type. Didn't seem to matter, the people who owned it before had no real class and just destroyed the interior by treating it the same as they would a cheap economy car by never taking care of it and acting like they were disposable. I ended up with a base model Mk.4 Golf instead because time ran out and the options weren't getting any better. Didn't help any that Cash-4-Clunkers also happened around that same time and wiped out so many good used cars. I'll probably hold that grudge against the government until I fucking die.

    A loss leader has nothing to do with the competition. What other people sell their products for is irrelevant. The only thing that matters, is that you are selling your product for less than it costs to produce it in an effort to get your customers to buy your other products (that you make a profit on.) Department stores do this all of the time with small items that they do not lose much money on. If you go into the store to get the great deal on the $10 item that cost $13 to produce, then while you are there buy the $50 item that has a large markup, the store profits from your visit.

    • @jacobkirkbride1581
      @jacobkirkbride1581 10 лет назад

      Or electronic stores sell all the big ticket electronics at a loss but make up the price in company payouts for selling a certain amount of products for a brand, and also making money on the accessories or services they sell with the products.

    I bought one of these to Pro Street not long after it came out. I assembled a Pro Stock chassis, rear-end and roll cage from a Ford Thunderbird, the DOHC 32-valve V-8 and transmission from the Corvette ZR1. A co-worker helped assemble the front-end to flip up and then he painted and buffed out multiple coats of candy-apple red and clear-coat paint on the body. It was the most fun Lexus LS 400 I ever owned. Then, I dunno, for some reason a no-longer-friend from back then started pirating pieces off it to use on his model car kits and I never got to finish my project!
