I agree also ! They come out talk about his Father! His Father saw the injustice! And he was brought up with his Father! But yet! Did not see the reason Kaepernick was kneeling! It took a black man to die on camera for him to see! It amaze me how they live in their world! With all the black men around him he doesn't know what goes on in the black community! Only what goes on the Football Field! Regardless of money! When those Black men leave the field! They are seen different in the white community! And when the Police stop them they don't see that Football player on the field. They see them as a threat in that same white community they live in! Unfortunately a lot of talk and very few actions. I might believe in some he said for him personally but he is still the lackey of the club owners. The part part about Kaep told it all: They reached out on their terms only.

I have been watching all of these conversations and, from many of the comments on here, it doesn’t seem many people are trusting the process. I believe that Emanuel truly thinks he is doing something good. And yet when someone comes on to talk who is already a pariah, so many people just don’t believe that person has listened or learned. If we go on castigating and dissing people and not accepting they are listening or can change then there is no point in any of these conversations. All we are then left with is anger and resentment and the desire for vengeance. Is that what this is about? I thought this was about an attempt to teach and heal. We can’t teach and heal if we hecklers refuse to accept any apology or discourse. If we believe no one can change or listen then we are on a road to intransigence and conflict.

Colin Kaepernick has exlained his reason beyond belief. You can easily google this and it's well explained so it's really silly that anyone would look at what he did as something wrong. He even consulted a Navy Seal how to protest this peacefully and that was the recomendation on how.

@@derrickmason7457 Sad but true. I've never been a fan of Goodell for my own reasons (being originally from New England), but his "change of heart" seemed very shallow to me. Unfortunately most decisions in the NFL are based on money and there has been a very vocal population saying they won't watch games (which generate ad revenue) if players are allowed to kneel. It is my dearest wish that the desire to do what's right and support the players and our teams, will win out over that more narrow-minded attitude. I was very pleased that Emmanuel clarified that the protest has never been against the flag or patriotism. I myself, even as a very patriotic white American, have realized that I now have a hard time singing the last line of the Star Spangled Banner until I more truly believe that this is the "land of the free" or completing the Pledge of Allegiance using the words "with liberty and justice for all" until major changes are made to systemic racism! This society is driven by economics and greed. Until there is an economic consequence there is no genuine concern from majority power brokers. It doesn’t really matter where his heart is until his (NFL) wallet is impacted. This is not a country built on character and justice, but commerce and self-enrichment. Check your history, slavery was an economic vehicle justified by racists policy and ideology. Current injustice continues because the power brokers in this country do not see value in equality unless it is on a playing field generating millions to perpetuate their 1% status. This is also a country that judges and refuses to forgive or offer second chances, evidenced by the industrialized for profit prison complex in the US. He may well be sincere, but his attention was probably gained when his wallet was threatened more than his heart being touched. Character is not a product of wealth or privilege, it is a product of consistent right action in the face of unpopular odds or resistance - Character is not built by conflict, but it is revealed. Great explanation there. I agree. Watching this conversation play out, I always had a nagging thought at the back of my head that Mr. Goodell wasn't being truly sincere with his words. While I didn't immediately think of the historical precedence of our society that wouldve justified said apathy, I felt like every answer that Mr. Goodell gave was simply too general in expression. Hearing it,it felt as if every word he gave was measured because he pragmatically knew that his paycheck would suffer otherwise, his morals be damned

This is what drives me mad: what if the protest had been about the military? Or the flag? Or the anthem? Nationalism and racism are inextricably linked. You either stand behind the rights of your athletes to peacefully protest or you don't.
But people knew that it wasn't about the flag from the beginning, they just were saying that so they could avoid the real issue about police brutality and racism because they didn't want to talk about it because it didn't affect them so they didn't care. So it was much easier to just make up a lie and say it was about the flag instead of really dealing with the problem. Now that more people acknowledge what the problem is including (Goodell) and let's see if there will be any real change that comes from it.

This was pretty weak. Ok so now “you get it” - what are you going to DO? What are you going to do about having the owners and higher ups in the NFL being almost totally white? What are you goi g to do about your players’ right to free speech and protection for it? I want to be glad Goodell seems to have changed & learned. However, he’s been notorious for being on the wrong side of big issues (concussions, domestic violence punishments, marijuana suspensions), and to see what his father stood for, it’s a bit alarming it took Goodell this long.

This isn't a bad start Emmanuel. But I don't see any discomfort. Roger keeps using we rather than I. Does he take any personal responsibility? Why did he not listen before? What stopped him from listening the first time? What will he do to ensure that in the future complaints will be taken seriously? Will he diversify the NFL's power structure? You are failing to see it from a VETS point of view, we are trained to fight and give our lives for that flag and what it stands for. For us, not standing is right below setting it on fire. That flag is on our shoulder when we go into battle...and for some...on their coffin when they come back. We wear the uniform and flag to protect rights which one is free speech. A quite a few of these feel set up from the beginning anyways. Chip and Joanna's kids seemed like they were given a question to ask rather than ask an honest question. I'll have to see how Matthew McConaughey interviews regularly because his was interesting, in a different way. However, Chelsea Handlers felt pretty authentic which caught me by surprise.
I'm disappointed with this interview it was very lackluster no fire.....for a guy whose father marched with Coretta Scott king, whose father sought out and listened to the people and acted rightly when it mattered even though it meant political loss; Roger Goodell came up woefully short on insight and action when it mattered.
Keep in mind Rodger works for the owners do I believe he’s a good guy possibly .. but he’s a commissioner of a league he doesn’t own. It’s hard to kinda take him at his word considering how these owners have been mostly quiet about these issues for years. It’s not like Rodger has said anything like this in how own time ... idk about him
Your comment is commendable because for so long Whites have dominated the conversations about these issues. We were the ones who had to shut up, take it and swallow what was being dished out. Nothing that infuriates a person more than the inability to be heard or express themselves. Add over 400 years to that and see how and why you see a literal explosion at this point. Even now as we turn to so many channels I still see whites dominating the conversations even if it is to show support they don't recognize that when they dominate the conversation they still act as part of the problem. Its sad that just you taking this position isn't enough when so many whites continue to dominate the conversation. Even this episode shows some symbolism of this man having this conversation go in the direction he wants and that is not to be made uncomfortable
I appreciate that Mr. Goodell is taking the first step by having the uncomfortable conversation. Now that there is an acknowledgement by Mr.Goodell that NFL actions against Mr. Kaepernick were wrong then how will NFL right this wrong. I await the next episode. I feel why it wont be on national tv is cuz Emmanuel may loss his power to control what is being shown and what is his message . If he has to answer to a tv station there will be bureaucracy.
From this August 23rd interview, did anyone else miss the part where Mr. Goodell lists the concrete and immediate actions he and the NFL owners are planning to do in order to right their injustices to so many for so many years? Watch Emmanuel's June 10th, 2020 interview with Stephen Colbert. Talk is indeed cheap.
He still never apologizes. He only says "i wished i listened earlier". That's not an apology. Neither is inviting Kaep only 1 time for a conversation. It genuinely seems like he's only saying this to appear "we know better now" and won't make efforts to reconcile what happened in the past. Don't just come onto this channel one time and say this bs. Go on every media outlet and denounce their and your audience's misrepresentation of the movement. Make an actual effort. Make a real effort to allow Kaep to either play or play an important role in the organization after he was wrongly crucified.
He gave Kap an opportunity to come workout for the NFL at some stadium (forgot which one) and Colin declined and wanted to move the workout to a local high school stadium by his house. I am so disappointed in this interview; a complete 360 from all episodes preceding it. I had difficulty discerning any sincerity for accountability from Mr. Goodell. “I’m very comfortable talking about race . . . I didn’t know what was going on in the communities . . . wish we had listened . . . we invited him several times . . . to dialogue” Again, no direct apology to Mr. Kaepernick when the opportunity presented itself, but with what I perceived as a veiled attempt to place blame elsewhere. He consistently made everything about him from his father’s experiences, to his understanding of domestic violence to the Vietnam War with hardly any meaningful discussion on race. I found this conversation totally self-serving with Mr. Goodell playing from the ignorant playbook. What would have been meaningful is to hear HOW he is ‘effectively’ using his platform. I fail to see what would be accomplished in a Part II when so little, if anything, was worthwhile in Part I.

I love that Godell shared the story about his father. It shows that he had an example of changing positions after taking the time and energy to learn, grow and gain empathy for others. Like the saying goes, if you knew better, you'd do better. His father sacrificed a senate seat - a great deal of power - to stand for what he believed, once he knew better. He was willing to walk arm in arm with people who didn't look like him...that was a BIG DEAL in the 60's. It set an incredible example for his son, who is following in his footsteps by speaking out against some very powerful people. His stance is extremely unpopular in many circles...and he is putting a lot on the line to declare it. One conversation is not the end-all, be-all. The problems we face have persisted for 400 years. They will not be fixed in one 10 minute conversation. We have a LONG, difficult journey ahead. This conversation represents one step in the right direction.
I am sad to say how disappointed I am in how this conversation went. Goodell didn't actually answer Emmanuel's questions, he didn't apologize to Kaep and instead deflected to not "having a discussion with him", he didn't actually share anything that personally changed in him. I saw the notice of this video and was genuinely excited to hear how Roger Goodell has grown and learned from the missteps he took around handling the players' protests, and unfortunately, his answers still seemed very evasive and not addressing the issue. Too bad, this was such a great opportunity to see more of his humanity and understanding. Glad that he at least had some sort of conversation on this platform, just disappointed it was wasted.

I hope Goodell tries to make some actionable changes after this. I think the type of dialogue presented here really helps foster change and critical thought in those who may not fully understand the issues. I don’t think Goodell deserves to be demonized or praised for this interview, rather closely scrutinized in the coming months and years. Emmanuel deserves praise for treating this with a level head and as a way to inform and challenge people of all perspectives, rather than just dunk on Goodell for the shitty things he has done in the past.
It's sad when peaceful protest are not understood and I only wish the Commissioner could have had a conversation with Kap prior to the end of that season. I'm sure he had his number and could have reached out to him. However, now most of the world knows more about taking a knee and the symbolism that it represents. I had a 4 hour conversation with a 48 year old White woman from rural Georgia last night. The conversation started from a Facebook post that turned into my request for her to actually call me. To actually speak to a Black man capable of passionately and intelligently about matters of racism,knowing she would become defensive. This conversation without a shadow of a doubt has proven to me why race relations will not change. We left no stone unturned in this brutally honest and open discussion. What I was hearing left me shaking my head. I heard every attempt to deny racism exists. It took so much energy to make her see the world outside of her blue eyes,which was impossible. They just don't know us,at all. The fears that they have for us overshadow any any true desire for change. Some even believe that the few Black people who are the wealthy or successful are proof that racism is not an issue. Throwing out names like Oprah,Obama ,Michael Jordan. People who are the exception from the reality of being Black. Interracial dating was shunned and opposed. Affirmative Action was viewed as favoritism and unneeded. Constantly mentioning they have "Black"friends. They don't even know our history. Their God perpetuates hypocrisy. Their version of a better world doesn't really represent equality because they fear that true change will reposition Black people to dominate them. They believe we have been "given " enough to atone for the acts of slavery. Slavery should not be discussed because they were not slave owners and we were not slaves. Denying the existence of any systemic racism or agenda to carry out the extermination of Black people. It always kept going back to her feeling a need to prove that she wasn't a racist,which I already knew she wasn't. It was very hard for her to see the world outside of her whiteness and honestly they know they don't have to. Every stereotype was addressed and dispelled. I believe its too painful for many White people to accept what Black people are screaming at them. Others are just clueless and you would be wasting time investing anything beyond passing interaction,even at a place of work. Their ignorance is so deep rooted. Their history has been rewritten to cover their transgressions and many of their heroes are false. Now they are angry because the world is saying in various ways STOP IT! Suggesting for me to leave America if I feel I will never be given a fair chance.lol . Overall the conversation left me just shaking my head because I know this country was built on oppression and that will not relinquish its need for oppression because human suffering drives America's economy. This woman represents the mindset of millions of White people. I still encourage these dialogs so that both parties can be heard. What is accomplished will not be seen with the naked eye. I believe God is our advocate and the white people who do not heed God's voice in this time will be severely held accountable for their beliefs and even their silence.
Why would I believe Goodell is genuine and contrite on the matter of confronting racial injustice and police brutality (and on the NFL's initial public response to CK) after learning of his and the NFL's role in the cover up of, or at best deflecting from, damage from CTE? The tipping point for INACTION from RG was when the NFL was set to lose money. The tipping point for allowing (if not embracing) what CK started was when it went beyond the stadium to the streets and he couldn't be neutral or on the wrong side of history. RG is a politician with his finger to the wind.

You also kept it very cordial...I would love to have heard what he's going to do when one or more the the Team Owners dis-allows the players on his team from participating in anyway while on the field. Will it assist players that that have community organizations? Will it assist people who are in jail for petty crimes, but can’t make bail? What will you do to show you are really beginning to understand?
I have a dream, I have a dream that every person with power to be heard and a heart yearning for a change of good, without racism, without greed, join together as ONE to bring a strong force of change in our world. If we don't use this platform of what is going on in our world this 2020 or 2021, we may lose on making the world not great but absolutely amazing. A world that we could send our young adult child to go anywhere on this earth and know they will be protected loved and cared for. Hey, it may not happen in 2021 maybe not 2030 but I know deep inside my heart it can happen, we can see this world that way. I know if we all had that picture in our minds it would happen. Imagine that world. I hope to see at least a glimpse of that world in my lifetime.
Yes! When you see it, hear it, and feel it, it's different than an abstract understanding. I had a moment like that that changed me and my understanding. If you had asked me if representation mattered, I would have said "yes" and understood it on an abstract level. But when I saw a black woman on RUclips talking about how excited she was when Disney finally released their first black princess, Tiana, and how for the next few years she went as Tiana as her costume to EVERYTHING, I finally could empathize with how much joy she felt and how much it meant to her. Being able to empathize with a real person helped me "get" how much power media representation has to change people's lives.
Kap was declining the last few years he was in the league. He offered to give Kap a chance and he declining wanting to move the workouts to a local high school stadium. He blew his chance. And the NFL and Kap also agreed on the settlement. He can’t have all the money from that settlement AND still want to play. He’s washed up, Colin Kaepernick is trash at football now

Kaep moved workout because the NFL tried to trick him into signing a special contract, created by the head of the legal department of the NFL, which would have allowed the NFL to weasel out of the collusion case they were facing. THAT'S why the workout was moved at the last hour to a high school football field. And all the scouts agreed, Kaep looked great in the workout, made every throw asked, and did it well. His stats weren't in decline at all either. Coming back from an injury, he was STILL a top 15 QB that year, and his numbers and Jimmy G were virtually identical. Multiple teams wanted him still, but the owners had a blacklist on him. He couldn't sign with a team unless he agrees to not protest during the anthem anymore. Seattle and Baltimore both wanted him badly.

These are good. The inequities of racial (and gender) inequality have many different ways of being expressed and being perceived and if we are going to overcome them we have to have uncomfortable conversations. To be fair, we have been having these conversations for a very long time. It was just different forms of expression, most recently during the 80's and 90's and before that in the 1960's. And it's through the progress of those previous struggles and conversations - all the blood spilled and lives lost - that we that find ourselves at another moment that will be pointed back at on that road towards a better world. I'm just hoping the planet doesn't get tired of us before we can figure it out and make these issues pale in the face of finding clean food and water, avoiding life threatening heat waves and other weather events, and dealing with viral infections and parasites we don't have the medicines to cure.

I don’t know if anybody’s mentioned this already, but what about a feedback and review system for cops. Encourage people to fill out surveys and evaluate their interactions with the police. Maybe that would show more of both sides of what goes on?
I love to see someone learn and change and grow as a person. My issues with Mr Goodell is this, his father marched with Coretta Scott King, and yet he didn't support Colin. How do you grow up watching and know your father marched and you don't stand with other's?

I have been watching all of these conversations and, from many of the comments on here, it doesn’t seem many people are trusting the process. I believe that Emanuel truly thinks he is doing something good. And yet when someone comes on to talk who is already a pariah, so many people just don’t believe that person has listened or learned. If we go on castigating and dissing people and not accepting they are listening or can change then there is no point in any of these conversations. All we are then left with is anger and resentment and the desire for vengeance. Is that what this is about? I thought this was about an attempt to teach and heal. We can’t teach and heal if we hecklers refuse to accept any apology or discourse. If we believe no one can change or listen then we are on a road to intransigence and conflict.

@@derrickmason7457 Sad but true. I've never been a fan of Goodell for my own reasons (being originally from New England), but his "change of heart" seemed very shallow to me. Unfortunately most decisions in the NFL are based on money and there has been a very vocal population saying they won't watch games (which generate ad revenue) if players are allowed to kneel. It is my dearest wish that the desire to do what's right and support the players and our teams, will win out over that more narrow-minded attitude.
I was very pleased that Emmanuel clarified that the protest has never been against the flag or patriotism. This society is driven by economics and greed. Until there is an economic consequence there is no genuine concern from majority power brokers. It doesn’t really matter where his heart is until his (NFL) wallet is impacted. This is not a country built on character and justice, but commerce and self-enrichment. Check your history, slavery was an economic vehicle justified by racists policy and ideology. Current injustice continues because the power brokers in this country do not see value in equality unless it is on a playing field generating millions to perpetuate their 1% status.
This is also a country that judges and refuses to forgive or offer second chances, evidenced by the industrialized for profit prison complex in the US. He may well be sincere, but his attention was probably gained when his wallet was threatened more than his heart being touched. Character is not a product of wealth or privilege, it is a product of consistent right action in the face of unpopular odds or resistance - Character is not built by conflict, but it is revealed.

Great explanation there. I agree. Watching this conversation play out, I always had a nagging thought at the back of my head that Mr. Goodell wasn't being truly sincere with his words. While I didn't immediately think of the historical precedence of our society that wouldve justified said apathy, I felt like every answer that Mr. Goodell gave was simply too general in expression. Hearing it,it felt as if every word he gave was measured because he pragmatically knew that his paycheck would suffer otherwise, his morals be damned

Roger Goodell is so inauthentic, he's hard for me to watch. I couldn't finish part I. I hope part II is a better use of my time.
This is what drives me mad: what if the protest had been about the military? Or the flag? Or the anthem? Nationalism and racism are inextricably linked. You either stand behind the rights of your athletes to peacefully protest or you don't.
But people knew that it wasn't about the flag from the beginning, they just were saying that so they could avoid the real issue about police brutality and racism because they didn't want to talk about it because it didn't affect them so they didn't care. So it was much easier to just make up a lie and say it was about the flag instead of really dealing with the problem. Now that more people acknowledge what the problem is including (Goodell) and let's see if there will be any real change that comes from it.

This isn't a bad start Emmanuel. But I don't see any discomfort. Roger keeps using we rather than I. Does he take any personal responsibility? Why did he not listen before? What stopped him from listening the first time? What will he do to ensure that in the future complaints will be taken seriously? Will he diversify the NFL's power structure? A quite a few of these feel set up from the beginning anyways. Chip and Joanna's kids seemed like they were given a question to ask rather than ask an honest question. I'll have to see how Matthew McConaughey interviews regularly because his was interesting, in a different way. However, Chelsea Handlers felt pretty authentic which caught me by surprise.
I'm disappointed with this interview it was very lackluster no fire.....for a guy whose father marched with Coretta Scott king, whose father sought out and listened to the people and acted rightly when it mattered even though it meant political loss; Roger Goodell came up woefully short on insight and action when it mattered.

Your comment is commendable because for so long Whites have dominated the conversations about these issues. We were the ones who had to shut up, take it and swallow what was being dished out. Nothing that infuriates a person more than the inability to be heard or express themselves. Add over 400 years to that and see how and why you see a literal explosion at this point. Even now as we turn to so many channels I still see whites dominating the conversations even if it is to show support they don't recognize that when they dominate the conversation they still act as part of the problem. Its sad that just you taking this position isn't enough when so many whites continue to dominate the conversation. Even this episode shows some symbolism of this man having this conversation go in the direction he wants and that is not to be made uncomfortable

I appreciate that Mr. Goodell is taking the first step by having the uncomfortable conversation. Now that there is an acknowledgement by Mr.Goodell that NFL actions against Mr. Kaepernick were wrong then how will NFL right this wrong. I await the next episode. Keep the uncomfortable conversations coming Mr. Acho.

I feel why it wont be on national tv is cuz Emmanuel may loss his power to control what is being shown and what is his message . If he has to answer to a tv station there will be bureaucracy.

Watch Emmanuel's June 10th, 2020 interview with Stephen Colbert. Talk is indeed cheap.

He still never apologizes. He only says "i wished i listened earlier". That's not an apology. Neither is inviting Kaep only 1 time for a conversation. It genuinely seems like he's only saying this to appear "we know better now" and won't make efforts to reconcile what happened in the past.
Don't just come onto this channel one time and say this bs. Go on every media outlet and denounce their and your audience's misrepresentation of the movement. Make an actual effort. Make a real effort to allow Kaep to either play or play an important role in the organization after he was wrongly crucified.
He gave Kap an opportunity to come workout for the NFL at some stadium (forgot which one) and Colin declined and wanted to move the workout to a local high school stadium by his house. That was his chance. He blew it. Also, he was declining sooooo much when he was playing. He definitely wasn’t what he use to be

I am so disappointed in this interview; a complete 360 from all episodes preceding it. I had difficulty discerning any sincerity for accountability from Mr. Goodell. “I’m very comfortable talking about race . . . I didn’t know what was going on in the communities . . . wish we had listened . . . we invited him several times . . . to dialogue” Again, no direct apology to Mr. Kaepernick when the opportunity presented itself, but with what I perceived as a veiled attempt to place blame elsewhere. He consistently made everything about him from his father’s experiences, to his understanding of domestic violence to the Vietnam War with hardly any meaningful discussion on race. I found this conversation totally self-serving with Mr. Goodell playing from the ignorant playbook. What would have been meaningful is to hear HOW he is ‘effectively’ using his platform. I fail to see what would be accomplished in a Part II when so little, if anything, was worthwhile in Part I.

Roger Goodell and the owners decisions around the protest hurt a lot of people yet he is proud of how he handled the protests.
I love that Godell shared the story about his father. It shows that he had an example of changing positions after taking the time and energy to learn, grow and gain empathy for others. Like the saying goes, if you knew better, you'd do better. His father sacrificed a senate seat - a great deal of power - to stand for what he believed, once he knew better. He was willing to walk arm in arm with people who didn't look like him...that was a BIG DEAL in the 60's. It set an incredible example for his son, who is following in his footsteps by speaking out against some very powerful people. His stance is extremely unpopular in many circles...and he is putting a lot on the line to declare it. One conversation is not the end-all, be-all. The problems we face have persisted for 400 years. They will not be fixed in one 10 minute conversation. We have a LONG, difficult journey ahead. This conversation represents one step in the right direction.

I am sad to say how disappointed I am in how this conversation went. Goodell didn't actually answer Emmanuel's questions, he didn't apologize to Kaep and instead deflected to not "having a discussion with him", he didn't actually share anything that personally changed in him. I saw the notice of this video and was genuinely excited to hear how Roger Goodell has grown and learned from the missteps he took around handling the players' protests, and unfortunately, his answers still seemed very evasive and not addressing the issue. Too bad, this was such a great opportunity to see more of his humanity and understanding. Glad that he at least had some sort of conversation on this platform, just disappointed it was wasted.

I hope Goodell tries to make some actionable changes after this. I think the type of dialogue presented here really helps foster change and critical thought in those who may not fully understand the issues. I don’t think Goodell deserves to be demonized or praised for this interview, rather closely scrutinized in the coming months and years. Emmanuel deserves praise for treating this with a level head and as a way to inform and challenge people of all perspectives, rather than just dunk on Goodell for the shitty things he has done in the past.
It's sad when peaceful protest are not understood and I only wish the Commissioner could have had a conversation with Kap prior to the end of that season. I'm sure he had his number and could have reached out to him. However, now most of the world knows more about taking a knee and the symbolism that it represents. I had a 4 hour conversation with a 48 year old White woman from rural Georgia last night. The conversation started from a Facebook post that turned into my request for her to actually call me. To actually speak to a Black man capable of passionately and intelligently about matters of racism,knowing she would become defensive. This conversation without a shadow of a doubt has proven to me why race relations will not change. We left no stone unturned in this brutally honest and open discussion. What I was hearing left me shaking my head. I heard every attempt to deny racism exists. It took so much energy to make her see the world outside of her blue eyes,which was impossible. They just don't know us,at all. The fears that they have for us overshadow any any true desire for change. Some even believe that the few Black people who are the wealthy or successful are proof that racism is not an issue. Throwing out names like Oprah,Obama ,Michael Jordan. People who are the exception from the reality of being Black. Interracial dating was shunned and opposed. Affirmative Action was viewed as favoritism and unneeded. Constantly mentioning they have "Black"friends. They don't even know our history. Their God perpetuates hypocrisy. Their version of a better world doesn't really represent equality because they fear that true change will reposition Black people to dominate them. They believe we have been "given " enough to atone for the acts of slavery. Slavery should not be discussed because they were not slave owners and we were not slaves. Denying the existence of any systemic racism or agenda to carry out the extermination of Black people. It always kept going back to her feeling a need to prove that she wasn't a racist,which I already knew she wasn't. It was very hard for her to see the world outside of her whiteness and honestly they know they don't have to. Every stereotype was addressed and dispelled. I believe its too painful for many White people to accept what Black people are screaming at them. Others are just clueless and you would be wasting time investing anything beyond passing interaction,even at a place of work. Their ignorance is so deep rooted. Their history has been rewritten to cover their transgressions and many of their heroes are false. Now they are angry because the world is saying in various ways STOP IT! Suggesting for me to leave America if I feel I will never be given a fair chance.lol . Overall the conversation left me just shaking my head because I know this country was built on oppression and that will not relinquish its need for oppression because human suffering drives America's economy. This woman represents the mindset of millions of White people. I still encourage these dialogs so that both parties can be heard. What is accomplished will not be seen with the naked eye. I believe God is our advocate and the white people who do not heed God's voice in this time will be severely held accountable for their beliefs and even their silence.
Why would I believe Goodell is genuine and contrite on the matter of confronting racial injustice and police brutality (and on the NFL's initial public response to CK) after learning of his and the NFL's role in the cover up of, or at best deflecting from, damage from CTE?
The tipping point for INACTION from RG was when the NFL was set to lose money. The tipping point for allowing (if not embracing) what CK started was when it went beyond the stadium to the streets and he couldn't be neutral or on the wrong side of history. RG is a politician with his finger to the wind.
Regardless of who asked who, it's a start with him being there and talking about it!
I appreciate you Emmanuel, Big Time interview...You were selected to help deliver the message of the NFL. You also kept it very cordial...I would love to have heard what he's going to do when one or more the the Team Owners dis-allows the players on his team from participating in anyway while on the field. Also, what is he going to do about the, mostly white, fans of the NFL who have stated that they will boycott the NFL if any players are allowed to represent their protest on the field.

This so helpful to me as a black British woman. I didn't quite understand the significance national anthem protests or kneeling.
I have a dream, I have a dream that every person with power to be heard and a heart yearning for a change of good, without racism, without greed, join together as ONE to bring a strong force of change in our world. If we don't use this platform of what is going on in our world this 2020 or 2021, we may lose on making the world not great but absolutely amazing. A world that we could send our young adult child to go anywhere on this earth and know they will be protected loved and cared for. Hey, it may not happen in 2021 maybe not 2030 but I know deep inside my heart it can happen, we can see this world that way. I know if we all had that picture in our minds it would happen. Imagine that world. I hope to see at least a glimpse of that world in my lifetime.

Yes! When you see it, hear it, and feel it, it's different than an abstract understanding. I had a moment like that that changed me and my understanding. If you had asked me if representation mattered, I would have said "yes" and understood it on an abstract level. But when I saw a black woman on RUclips talking about how excited she was when Disney finally released their first black princess, Tiana, and how for the next few years she went as Tiana as her costume to EVERYTHING, I finally could empathize with how much joy she felt and how much it meant to her. Being able to empathize with a real person helped me "get" how much power media representation has to change people's lives.

Kap was declining the last few years he was in the league. He offered to give Kap a chance and he declining wanting to move the workouts to a local high school stadium. He blew his chance. And the NFL and Kap also agreed on the settlement. He can’t have all the money from that settlement AND still want to play. He’s washed up, Colin Kaepernick is trash at football now

Kaep moved workout because the NFL tried to trick him into signing a special contract, created by the head of the legal department of the NFL, which would have allowed the NFL to weasel out of the collusion case they were facing. THAT'S why the workout was moved at the last hour to a high school football field. And all the scouts agreed, Kaep looked great in the workout, made every throw asked, and did it well.
His stats weren't in decline at all either. Coming back from an injury, he was STILL a top 15 QB that year, and his numbers and Jimmy G were virtually identical. Multiple teams wanted him still, but the owners had a blacklist on him. He couldn't sign with a team unless he agrees to not protest during the anthem anymore. Seattle and Baltimore both wanted him badly.

He’s 32 now and has been out of the league for 4 years......he should give it a break trying to get back into the league. These are good. The inequities of racial (and gender) inequality have many different ways of being expressed and being perceived and if we are going to overcome them we have to have uncomfortable conversations. To be fair, we have been having these conversations for a very long time. It was just different forms of expression, most recently during the 80's and 90's and before that in the 1960's. And it's through the progress of those previous struggles and conversations - all the blood spilled and lives lost - that we that find ourselves at another moment that will be pointed back at on that road towards a better world. I'm just hoping the planet doesn't get tired of us before we can figure it out and make these issues pale in the face of finding clean food and water, avoiding life threatening heat waves and other weather events, and dealing with viral infections and parasites we don't have the medicines to cure.
Its all about his pocket. If He knew history as He claims, He would have understood right from the start. But his ear paid attention to his pocket. That is where the Heart is...THE MONEY...
Wish he was pressed more. I’m glad he is willing to do this but I think he needs to be more uncomfortable and actually apologize and talk more about his wrongdoings. Almost makes him sound like he was not the man in charge. If he wants credit for doing anything right he has to take responsibility for doing what he did wrong
I don’t know if anybody’s mentioned this already, but what about a feedback and review system for cops. Encourage people to fill out surveys and evaluate their interactions with the police. Maybe that would show more of both sides of what goes on?

Goodell is one of the most powerful non-politicians in the country. He had a list of things not to put him on the spot about. Even though that was the case, Emmanuel knew that this could help unite and not divide.

It good it is happening. Knowledge has to be able to reach everyone and sometimes that tone does not sound as Uncomfortable as we think it should. If it gets the message across it works, and makes change then the tone was what was needed.
