I also have this 5string model and I really LOVE IT! 🙂 A HUGE overall improvement compared to the older SUB U-Bass models! However the B-string definitively SUXX! It is just too thin to create an appropriate tone. They should make it at least 125 gauge, I already sent a mail to KALA support. Nevertheless I will order a set of these new flatwound once they are avilable over here in germany.
I've been looking for something resembling a review of Kala's 5 string bass. It's proven way more dificult than expected, so thanks for your "first look". Seeing it's been 10 days since you posted this video... Any updates to your impression of it? What's good, what's bad?
Hmm, I don't have a scale but the best I can google says 5.5 pounds. My Timber claims to be 3.25 and this is definitely heavier so that's probably right.
The B String sounds really good because it has a Special construction

My only 5-string so for now I'm just happy to have the notes 🙃
Actually the B String is a bit thinner because it has a tungsten winding to make it denser.
They went w/ a 120 Gauge (a teeny bit thinner) because they use a special construction.
Maybe you are able to put any set of flatwounds on it. Get some Ernie Ball cobalt flatwounds with thicker B string.
@@DanielPerez-vt5ez Actually the Low B String has a special design to where it can be thinner w/o compromising tone & intonation.

Sorry, I haven't been able to play it since! Too much life getting in the way
@@flukutronic Nothing to apologize. Life happens 🙂
Can you tell me the weight of this bass?
