Having been a professional cheerleader for a major sports team, I can assure you there definitely had been a significant portion of the population that used to say it's not a sport. That has largely changed, but there are still people that hold that thought. It's seems the original commenter in this thread (Mary) is also aware of this, as she wrote, "...who says chearleading isn't a sport?!".
My daughter was a competitive cheerleader and it was so much work but SO MUCH FUN TOO! They asked my son to be on the squad as spotter & he ended up competing in different extra categories with 3 of the cheerleaders and they won 3 yrs in @ nationals & our squad won nationals 3 times in a row!! Y'ALL ARE MAGNIFICENT!!!!
They're all extremely talented. This makes me miss my cheer days so much. I absolutely loved being a flyer. The rush you get is indescribable. I wish everyone could experience that feeling. I really enjoy watching the men on this team! I'm thrilled to see so many of them. That wasn't the case when I was cheering. I would have loved to be on a squad like this one.
This is clearly a group of people that have a high level of trust and respect for one another. It looks like they truly enjoy being around one another 😊😊❤

Hi Petras, The International Olympic Committee granted the International Cheer Union full recognition on July 20, 2021. Cheerleading is now included as a Recognized Federation and is eligible for future Olympic Games. Their first entry/completion date is expected to be in the 2028 Olympics. The sport in this form is very precise, physically demanding and inclusive, not just of people, but teaching people how to work on teams. I imagine this sport will be wildly popular. (Also, it's one of rhe very few completion areas to have male & female teams working together as a unified force/team.)
