- I bought a Cannondale Topstone. It is Cannondale's entry-level gravel bike, but I think this bike is very fun. This is my unbox and ride experience of this bike. I have had this bike for several months already, so, this is a kind of long-term review, too.

Cliff, you're the man. Great review, and I opted for the Topstone 2 for the hydo brakes because I've heard the lack of stopping power in the mechanical ones. Keep doing what you do!

Wicked review! Just the right information. I'm on the market for a mid-level road bike to commute with, I have 45 miles so it has to be comfy and with room for fenders since weather is a challenge where I live. I will subscribe to hear you review other bikes.
Do check out the Triban RC520 and RC520 Gravel also. They are absolute value for money.
Thanks for making this review video, it's so much more real information than 90% of all the "review/marketing" videos out there. Might just cement my decision on the topstone vs the domane for more fun.
Good review. I own this bike and I too, find the brakes are lacking in stopping power. Plan to upgrade as well.
Oh man, best video of all times. I was wondering if the topstone was a good bike, if it makes sense to buy a second set of tires to use it as a road bike and if hydro brakes are worth their money. You answered ALL my questions. Now I will go buy this bike and make it look happy 🙂
The Topstone 3 is a terrific bike. I love mine and will not part with it anytime soon. If you can, it's probably more convenient, if more expensive, to get a second complete wheelset (if you get decent carbon rims) rather than having to constantly switch b/t gravel tires and slicks. But then again, it's less costly than than buying an additional good road bike.
Yes, that's what I wanted to say... A complete wheelset so I can quickly change it into a decent roadbike as well. I guess the topstone 2 with some really good wheels and 28 or 32mm road tires will be at least as good as an entry level road bike. Plus you still have all the bike packing features that most road bikes don't have.

I used to use hydraulic disk brakes, but switched back to mechanical disk brakes. I find the hydraulic disk brakes has far too much stopping power. I use the Avid BB7 disk brakes, find they are more predictable before they lock up.

Thinking about getting one as a 2nd bike to ride in the city and light trails… my mtb is kinda heavy for long rides

Plan to release a Mandarin version as well? Great content as usual but have to say the scripting and flow are a bit more fun and natural on main channel ; )
This is my new year resolution, plan to up at least 1 video each month. Still need a lot more practice, it took me about 30 videos to feel more comfortable in the main channel :)

Tremendous review! Could it be possible to change the wheels into road bike wheels for race purposes?
What type of racing?
If you're planning on road racing such as a doing a crit, it's probably better to get a more aero-designed road bike, one that is lighter and more responsive in cornering. If you're talking gravel races, sure, having a carbon wheelset can help.
I don't race, but I put a good carbon wheelset & road tires on my Topstone 3 to lighten the bike a little and make it better (faster) for club road rides. But my club is fairly casual & about group riding for health & friendship, not preparing for racing, even if the group dynamics make it that some want to push the pace on most rides. I usually switch back to the stock alloy rims & wtb riddlers if I'm riding mainly gravel or by myself for exercise, but that's for convenience since it's easier to switch out the wheelset than the tires.
@@ashurany I got the point. So the concern, is if I want to use Topstone for road racing, once it is replaced with the road bike wheelset is the way to get the bike more responsive. Thanks for your clear explanation.

I have just ordered this bike. I too would like info/sizes on the carbon wheels and new tires. Also, can the brakes be upgraded to hydraulic?

What kind of slick tyres did you put? Will they fit on the original wheels?
I put both 32C GP5000 and 40C Gravel King Slick before. Yes, they fit original wheels.

I am 170 cm, Saddle height 69 cm. Size S fits me well.
