Who cares, at the end of the day PC is the superior platform.
Consoles have been edging towards obsolete for many years now. The only reason why anybody would still consider purchasing one in 2022 is because of the market aberrations on the GPU market.
Consoles are pieces of anti consumer crap filled with DRM. No need to play on them when you can just fucking dump the ISO and play it on the PC like a normal person.
      Edit: Abberations to aberrations

I have come to the sad conclusion that even though eventually...All game libraries past and present will be available for digital purchase. It will take years if not decades to sort out the copyrights. Which is a huge, painfully slow, legal nightmare.
That is why I've decided to jailbreak and mod my retro systems. Download whatever older titles I want and store'em on a harddrive.

@@tigerhead85 True but as stated and incredibly overcomplex and messy architecture, that makes this emulator harder to develop than a current console like the Nintendo Switch.
In fact I’m quite sure is harder than PS4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, that doesn’t mean we’ll have soon PS5 emulators nor will require less power although the PS3 emulator needs stronger CPUs that what you need for an eventual PS4 and Xbox One emulators, the CPUs on those consoles were like two cores of current CPUs, is funny to see that the recommended CPUs for PS3 emulation are 8 Cores Zen 2, that’s what we’ve got in PS5 and Xbox Series.
The PS4 could never under any circumstances no matter how optimized and source material would use to make it, run a playable PS3 emulator, unlike the Xbox One who was capable of running Xbox 360.
If Sony wants full retrocompatibility with PS5 they can do it, they have no excuses, but unfortunately I don’t think will happen, although I would love to be wrong there

@DT. Redgrave once those PS3s are gone (in 10, 20, 30 years), there is going to be no way to play these games, other than emulation. It's no ones fault that PS3 was so notoriously complex, that even professional AAA devs struggled to utilize its power.
These guys are basically re-creating it with in-code, on bare enthuziasm, essentially doing free work. And besides all of that, it's their hobby and passion, if you donate - cool, if you don't - it's ok too. Why the hate?

I know not everyone can upgrade their PC’s so easily due to tight budgets, but if you ever have the opportunity to acquire a decently priced 8-core processor down the road, it’ll make a big difference in the more demanding titles. God of War 3, Uncharted Drake’s Fortune, and Metal Gear Solid 4 run at playable framerates now for me even though there are still random crashes here and there, and software like them used to run in the single digit framerates before the upgrade.

Now we can emulated it, and run it better than a real ps3. I just wish Xenia would get the same support.

I see such statements as missing a crucial word- it would be impossible to make it (and be profitable).
After all, if they WERE to re-release MGS4, they would have to create an emulator like this one, which has taken a whole community years upon years to refine, and then make sure it works absolutely perfect, and then hope that the gaming audience would actually be willing to buy an old MGS game. As we can see here it's perfectly DOABLE... but this emulator is, again, mady by fans over nearly a decade of development time, for free, just because they can. When a project needs to make a profit, priorities look very different.

I think the reason Xenia has less support is that there's way less demand for it. 360's and it's games are dirt cheap (Xbox collecting is super cheap) and over a quarter of the library works on Xbox One (and most of the big titles are on that list).
Meanwhile NO PS3 games actually run on PS4 and the only ones you can experience are the few that got ported over. And the big PS3 games that haven't been ported a quite expensive on the used market.

How Sony has treated the PS3 is really sad. There is zero backwards compatibility with its games which effectively means that thousands of games are permanently stuck on the PS3.
PS Now is not an adequate solution because it’s available in limited regions with a limited list of titles and not locally on your machine. RPCS3 is an impressive piece of software that couldn’t have come at a better time!

My guess is that the PS4 isn't powerful enough to emulate PS3, and it doesn't have the extra hardware to run PS3 games natively
I mean the Wii had GameCube hardware built in for GameCube backwards compatibility, the DS had GBA hardware for backwards compatibility, PS2s had PS1 hardware for PS1 backwards compatibility, and I think early PS3s had PS2 hardware for backwards compatibility, so it's not unreasonable to assume the PS4 would need the same to run PS3 games

@@Jsteeeez BIOSes with it disabled have already been released. Obviously you don't have to update, but eventually boards are going to start shipping with these BIOSes by default as new stock filters through. People have also had success injecting the old microcode into the new BIOS in order to re-enable AVX-512, though Intel could stop that if they wanted to in the future. There's also the likelihood that Intel will push the same microcode update via Windows Update, meaning it'll be disabled regardless if you update Windows.
It's a mess really. Zen 4 is strongly rumoured to have AVX-512 support, which will likely lead to Intel enabling it properly in Raptor Lake. I'd wait for one of those if you really want AVX-512 and don't already own Alder Lake, rather than jumping through hoops.

Years of work and millions of dollars investment if Sony tried to do it with a paid team of developers, and wouldn't be practical until PS5 hardware was available. Lazy? No. Greedy? Well if there was demand for it, and they really believed PS3 games being sold in 2022 would be profitable, they would have done it as motivated by greed.
