I was raised learning piano. My teacher recognized that I was naturally gifted and so I was pushed past my limits almost every day with practice. Like seriously I'd have crying meltdowns at the piano cause of it. Eventually my mom couldn't afford lessons anymore and I started teaching myself more at my own pace. It became an emotional outlet for me and I'd get lost in the music. Now I have not practiced in over 8 years and can hardly play. I'm sure if I tried, I could relearn again. But I guess my point is.. I kind of recognize something like that in your story. The prodigy child who was probably pushed past their limits. And now it has become an outlet for you that you have taken control of. Which I adore. Also I wasn't on your level of piano playing. But I was pretty dang good considering I was half self taught and young. And listening to this piano shred is the most exciting thing to me. Gets me super hyped up. I think when people haven't really learned an instrument, it's easy to gloss over how difficult it is. A "regular life" is one where you just get to be a kid and experience life in all its ups and downs without anything too...crazy getting in the way of that. At least that's what it means to me.
