    Idk how I found myself watching bee videos, but in the past few days its been the only thing I can watch, and your channel has been a very fun channel to watch, even wants me to start getting a hive on my farm. Love your stuff!

    I just want to say thank you. I'm allergic to bees, but your videos have been so filled with information about them, their habits ECT. I've actually been deep thinking about joining a bee club. My kids and I have been binge watching your videos and now they want a hive. Keep up the good work!

    I really enjoy your videos. Wish i could start a beekeeping hobby. 2 reason why i cant. One) i live in the city so cant have hives around here, especially since i live right across from a school. Two) My mom and my sister are allergic to bees, Sister is highly allergic. Saddest part of all is, both me and my mom loves honey and since we live in south africa, its highly expensive. 500ml or 16oz cost us around, 75-130 Rand. which is around $5.83 - $10.10. Doesnt seem much to people in the US or Europe.
    And seeing the amount of honey you can make from a few hives which i saw in your 1 video that you were draining for your personal stash, i become interested in beekeeping, already have a meal worm farm which i use to give to my hedgehog.

      I bought 2 early this year for my 8 frame hive and had some drowning, minor but still had drowning they are definitely NOT drowning proof. Other than a small amount of bee's drowning I like the feeders anxious to see how it'll work out feeding dry sugar this winter. Will the bees break cluster in cold winter months in Virginia? We're fixing to find out.

    How does the fit look on the underside? Meaning does it fill the boxes well or leave space for creepy crawlies to next that the bees can't get too. I ordered mine from blythewood bee supply. Was going to make a vacuum table and make something similar with hot plexiglass or similar material. Thanks for the product introduction.

    I have the other brand top feeder like this, exactly the same without the corner access. Can confirm both brands are great, zero drownings. Only down side is with so much surface area of open liquid, water evaporates reasonably quickly and the inner cover condense's water and will grow a little mold in mild climates like ours. Not a big deal as it wont drip on the bees. I had ants find the feeder fairly quick but cinnamon works really well at deterring them. Don't use cinnamon in rural areas, apparently it will attract the possums. My 2 (new) backyard hives took in over 60kgs of sugar in autumn and have plenty of stores going into winter, they wont need feeding again till spring so I've removed the feeders until then.

    • @628DirtRooster
      @628DirtRooster  7 лет назад

      Fair assessment though, I'd worry about the clear plastic parts that clip into the corners and the middle. Either they'll get lost, stepped on, or the tabs that hold it in place will break and it won't fit down properly. That would be my best guess at what fails first.

    So I've watched who knows how many vids of yours by now, and I keep wondering... With all those different hives with different queens in proximity to each other... Don't they attack other hives, or just mind their own if they're not being bothered? I'm real curious about that. :)

      Sometimes opening hives at the wrong time a robbing situation can be caused but typically they don't bother each other.

      They are trying to work a deal with Mann Lake but they aren't available in the US yet. Hit their web site and see what they'll charge to send you one if you have the disposable cash. I know it cost them $129 to mail the two I got.

    I'm not sure I know how a bee feeder works. Does it drip into the hive?

    • @richbooth8948
      @richbooth8948 7 лет назад +1

      dennys9506 No. the bees climb up through the holes and drink, then carry it back into the hive. That is why Randy mentioned the textured plastic. The texture allows them to climb and not end up in the "drink".

    • @Dirk3672_StupidYT
      @Dirk3672_StupidYT 7 лет назад +1

      No, you don't want free dripping into a hive. In this case, the bees come up through the corners and then proceed down the translucent plastic, which has a rough texture so the bees have grip, to where the sugar water is. The sugar water gets into the feed areas, the corners, and center box, by openings at the very bottom of the corner pieces or slits (I think I saw) in the center box.

      628DirtRooster so, using my no clue about bee keeping language, the bees would come up into the blue part of the chimney and the plastic cover part thing keeps them from drowning?

      This is the cost of 1 feeder from NZ.
      Cost for 1 x set is $13.00 and freight is $ 54.08

    Great video, we are currently working on a new design that allows ants to have access to all the varoa mites and other parasites but not actually get into the Supas. Its not as easy as it sounds. I purposfully put Meadow Ant Nests near every Bumble Bee Nester and virtually parasite free. We noticed some years back that the Ants where eating Varoa mites that had fallen from the Honey Bee Hives. If you watch Ants on the floor and you have mites then you will see them carrying the mites away. I have a video called Why Bumble Bees Need Ants if any one wants to see. You can see all my Bumble Bees are healthy and Ants on the houses :)

    Hey there, i figure this might be a strange question, but would you ever sell any of your dead bees/other hymenopterans from removals and just everyday beekeeping? I do taxidermy and jewelry and it can be hard to find them in stock on bug websites. If not that's alright I'll keep watching regardless, just figured i'd ask! Keep up the good work!

    Speaking of bee feeding... why is it so uncommon to see planted flowers around bee keeping?
    It's usually just a grass field ( i know grass contains pollen ) but it's rare to see some flowers or such planted near by.
