I loved the beat! This sounds a little more samba like, but I don’t really know the difference. When I sit in, it kinda just melds. Would love some clearing up, but sick beat!
Both Samba and Bossa have a wide range of tempos. Generally Bossa is much slower… this example is probably around the top range of how fast you play Bossa… but there’s no clear line and the context of the music makes a difference.
Samba is (from what I’ve read), more traditional Brazilian music. The voices of the various percussion instruments that inspire Brazilian set player are generally more clear and defined in Samba, where as in Bossa the jazz influence makes more into just a drumset part, if that makes any sense at all. There’s also (once again, not trying to speak with certainty, these are just things I’ve read and observed in the music) generally more extended/complex comping in Bossa, which makes sense, as it’s so deeply intertwined with American Jazz.
I love the sound of that second cymbal, the entire kit sounds great but that one in particular stands out to me This looks both easy and challenging, I'll have to give it a try!
Bro it's really easy to understand the rithmes you post congrats. Only a tip of execution, use the drumstick's neck for the beats and the &s. Thank you!
Thanks you... I appreciate the comment! As far as doing the neck/tip thing on the hihat. That works great! But it's not a catch all for everything. Sometimes you wanna use the tip... sometimes the neck... sometimes a combination... Your musical intelligence and calibration of the music you are playing will determine what you use. There's never just one way.
I honestly don't remember the BPM... My example before this was on the slower range for a Bossa... this one is on the higher range... So I wanna say around 80bpm.

That Blue grip is just a very light coating… doesn’t really alter the sound of the stick too much. You still get plenty of wood tone. In fact, if you were just listening, and didn’t see the grips on my stick in the video, I would wager that you would have no idea they were even there.
it's definitely on the top end... I believe I set the click for 85. The previoud video was on the slower end... like 60bpm. But like any style, there's a range. Sometimes you have to play a Bossa a little faster... especially in a jazz situation.
It is on the faster side of a Bossa Nova... That is very much on purpose, since the prior example I did was on the slower side of Bossa Nova... But that doesn't make it a Samba. The context of the music would.
This looks easy and challenging at the same time but I will still try. I like the technique 👍🏻

Depending on how you are feeling the time it ups be the & or 4 or the the a of 2

Question. Why hold the stick upside down for the rim shots… is it purely just for the sound ?
More mass from the stick does give it a richer tone… no doubt.

Is that the musical notes in drum R and K CR etc. Can I do it . I have music in me😢
Nah… it more of a laymen way of writing it without standard notation. K=kick CS=cross stick and I use R for the “ride pattern” which varies.
Is this in 2/4 or did you count eighth notes like sixteenths?
Bossa Nova is typically written in 2/4… you also see it in cut time a lot
it could be 2/4... it could be cut time... I didn't make that distiction, so the answer is subjective... however you'd like to write it.
Good tecnich But for me, is a very "strong" groove, bossa nova is more delicated
