Dr. Riley Elliot talks to 'In Pursuit of Giants' about the malicious slaughtering of Great Whites at Stewart Island and how that not only endangers the already rare sharks and their ecosystem, but also the potentially the lives of water users.
There are around 7 highly protected Kiwis in New Zealand for every 1 Great White shark in the entire world.
New Zealand is lucky enough to have one of around aggregation zones in the world. Yet there are possibly several New Zealanders killing them in what appears to be a deliberate manner.
The Department of Conservation and the Government appear to be negligent.

Dr. Riley I have always respected your opinion and I will say from way across the globe I feel you on this. The sharks sadly always lose as you point out. That is sad. The sharks the innocent fish lose because of us and because of Jaws. A movie and story I love but it has put a fear in us that prevents both our brains and our hearts from weighing in honestly. There at Edward Island and all over the world for that matter. Humans are mean and we are screwing up our planet. Thank you for being a good soul. I wish there were more of you out there. Sadly there are more of the others though.

It’s a no friggen brained.. Edward’s island needs to be a marine reserve… and scientists need to study down their to understand this endangered beauty
