    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  4 года назад +4

      Hello :) It depends on the discoloration. If you have post-acne marks, it works excellent with spot treatments. But if you have other discoloration, I may be best to apply it all over the face and neck :)

  • @CR-cv2ej
    @CR-cv2ej 2 года назад +1

    I have read that patting is less effective than rubbing skincare in due to rubbing being able to get "under skin cells" if you get what I mean. By patting you are just pressing the ingredients into the top part of the skin, but rubbing makes it go underneath cells that patting cant reach..

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 года назад

      From my experience, it doesn't. I couldn't see any difference. But generally, I think it is not true because as soon as it gets in contact with the skin, it absorbs it, and it depends on the ingredients you use, how deep they can penetrate and the overall formulation. The only difference I noticed is that while blending it over the face, you can get into every corner, making it better to spread all over.

    Hey Melissa! I've been following this routine for the past few months and it's really working for me. I've been using the Natural Moisturizing Factors+HA too ( avoiding my t-zone) for extra hydration, as it is getting a little colder here in India now. I recently got free samples of the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex and Intense Reset Concentrate with my eye cream from the same brand. Can you please tell me if I can incorporate those two into my existing routine? Or should I avoid them? I have finally gotten rid of the severe acne marks I used to have, so I don't want to risk getting any breakouts. I'm 26 now and want to start using anti-aging products. Should I try something from The Ordinary instead?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Год назад +1

      Hello Apoorva,
      I think Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex will be too heavy/rich and may cause issues/breakouts. But the eye cream may work well since you only apply it to a small area around the eyes, which is usually not prone to acne. But generally, it may not be needed.
      And I have several example routines with PowerPoint guides on my channel that you can find right here:

    I find these videos sooo therapeutic 💖 Would you use a moisturiser after this combination? Or is that overkill? Currently I use CeraVE then Acelic acid - thanks to you last comment ;) - so perhaps I don’t need to buy Niacinimode since CeraVE has Nmide inside already 🤔 Anyway! Also, could you recommend me a GENTLE chemical exfoliate? I occasionally use a diluted Apple Cider Vinegar which completely removes my mild Seb derm seem (but I’m afraid to put it on my nose!) #SensitiveSkin #MildRoseca #mildSebderm… have you tried Apple Cider Vineager? thanks as always :) 💪🇬🇧💖

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 года назад +1

      Hey Ben,
      Don't think that it is overkill if your skin needs it. Just most people tend to add one if they do not really need it. So if your skin condition is dry, adding a moisturizer could work well.
      And there is not much information available that shows how much Niacinamide skin needs. So a low % that is usually used in moisturizer may already do the job, and there would be no need for more.
      Apple Cider Vinegar can be very acidic to the skin, but actually, I haven't really looked at natural remedies that deeply, so I cannot really tell you much about it, but if it works, why not 🤫😉
      Dry Skin Exfoliating Acids: Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid and Mandelic Acid or a PHA (for example The Inkey List PHA would be the most gentle)
      Oily Skin: Salicylic Acid (BHA)

      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 года назад

      Hello Connie,
      Yes, that should work :) Still, you are using three "drying products" in the same routine, so you really need to balance it with a moisturizer as it may become drying over time (but that is individual, and you need to experiment)
      And yes, you can layer Alpha Arbutin and Azelaic Acid. I recently created a new guide for this:

      - CeraVe renewing cleanser (cleanser)
      - the ordinary aha 30% BHA 2% peeling solution (Mask)
      - the ordinary glycolic acid 7% toning solution (Exfoliant)

      - the Ordinary azelaic acid suspension (Suspension)
      - iunik centella calming gel cream (Moisturizer 🤷🏼‍♀️? Cream/Lotion)
      - cerave daily moisturizing lotion (Lotion)
      Here is the information that you need to build your routine:
      The general rule of thumb for the order of application is:
      Water-based serums
      Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations
      Lotion & Creams & suspensions
      Important:
      If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). And it’s recommended applying eye-serums (such as Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG) first after cleansing.
      It’s recommended using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration.
      About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck.
      Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!!
      Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% cannot be used alongside any pure or ethylated forms of Vitamin C.
      Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% can only be used alongside Vitamin C derivatives:
      - Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%
      - Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F
      - Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10%

    Hi Melissa, I love your videos.
    I have acne prone dry skin with an oily t-zone (Quite possibly just dehydrated). A week or two ago I started using cerave hydrating cleanser and moisturizer with the ordinary niacinamide+zinc. I also bought the gylcolic acid toning solution and am using it once a week at night.
    My question for you is what other ordinary products will be beneficial for improving my skin? My main skin concerns apart from hydration are acne scars/hyperpigmentation in addition to uneven texture and large pores. I am trying to decide between the alpha arbutin + HA serum OR absorbic acid + alpha arbutin serum, in addition to azelaic acid. Also should I use the Hyaluronic acid serum if my moisturizer, sunscreen and cleanser already contain this.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  4 года назад +2

      Hello, Thank you.
      Well, you have the right products for your concerns.
      It may be beneficial to add a Retinoid to your routine.(Improve skin texture) You can go with the Granactive Retinoid 2% in emulsion or the other.
      However, the best over the counter retinoid that I have tried so far is the La Roche Posay Redermic Retinoid cream. It blends well into the skin even after the Ordinary serums. The Ordinary Retinoids tend to stick on top, depending on the products that you use before.
      I think you know how to incorporate them ;) Since you have the right products for your concerns. In case you don’t, you may want to watch this video:

    Hi, Melissa! 💓 I have been using this combination and it works so well. My skin is smoother and less oily. However, I was wondering if I could add the AHA acid into this routine or is niacinamide and azelaic acid enough to fade dark spots? Hope you reply 🙈. Also, is AHA good for brown skin?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 года назад +2

      Hello Mariama, which acid do you want to add 🤔? I recommend using Mandelic Acid (AHA) because this tends to work better on darker skin tones. 😀
      So you would use this after Niacinamide but before Azelaic Acid. It's a tricky combination, but it can work well. Since Mandelic Acid has larger molecules, it will go after the Niacinamide (Usually it is the opposite, but that one is special)

    I wash my face with Cerave SA Clenser
    Glycolic Acid 7% toning solution
    Buffet
    Alpha Arbutin 2% +HA
    Nicinamide 10%+zinc1%
    Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%
    Hyluronic Acid 2% +B5
    Lactic Acid 10% + HA
    Thank You 🙏🏽 ☺️

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  4 года назад +5

      Hey😊
      I recommend getting a gentle/neutral cleanser as well that doesn’t include any acids like AHA (Glycolic, Lactic Acid, etc.) or BHA (Salicylic Acid) when using the Ordinary Acids.
      AM Routine:
      - Cleanse
      - Niacinamide
      - Alpha Arbutin
      - (Optional) Moisturiser
      - Azelaic Acid Suspension
      - SPF
      AM 2 Routine:
      - Cleanse
      - Hyaluronic Acid
      - Buffet
      - (Optional) Moisturiser
      - SPF
      PM Routine:
      - Cleanse
      - Glycolic Acid or Lactic Acid
      - Hyaluronic Acid
      - (Optional) Moisturiser
      Buffet has conflicts with stronger acids such as any acids like AHA (Glycolic, Lactic Acid, etc.) or BHA (Salicylic Acid).
      You may also want to alternate between Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid. I do not recommend using them together as it may irritate the skin and it’s like you would double exfoliate the skin…
      I also listed 2 AM routines so that you’re not using too many products in one routine and the skin can also absorb it a bit better! So, you can alternate between the AM 1 and AM 2 routine😊
      How often you should exfoliate depends on your skin type and skin concerns. Some people do well exfoliating with AHA or BHA twice a day, whereas others find that once a day or every other day is a perfect balance. Test to see what works best for your skin.
      If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first).

      If you want to get rid of them as soon as possible, I recommend using the Ordinary Ascorbic Acid + Alpha Arbutin.
      AM:
      Wash face
      Ascorbic Acid + Alpha Arbutin
      SPF
      PM:
      Wash face
      Ascorbic Acid + Alpha Arbutin
      You can use it for spot treatment. However, it can take 2-3 months before you see results. But from my experience, it takes even longer with Azelaic Acid and Niacinamide...
      You do not necessarily need a moisturizer; however, a face wash would be great to remove dirt, excess oil, dead skin cells, etc.
      or:
      AM:
      Wash face
      Niacinamide

      You can use the Ascorbyl Solution with any other skincare products. However, I wouldn't use it when using Retinol as this may feel too oily. Other than that, you can use your Vitamin C in the AM after Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide :) Or just do as you mentioned, add Niacinamide to your PM routine (use it after cleansing but before Retinol or Azelaic Acid).

      You would use it as the last step since it includes silicon and layer sunscreen on top during the day. You can use it twice a day if you like.

    Is it ok to use CeraVe's new blemish control cleanser before applying these two products ? Or does the cleanser have conflicts with them?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Месяц назад

      If your skin tolerates the products well individually, yes, it can work. Some people have more sensitive skin and therefore wouldn't use a salicylic acid cleanser and azelaic acid in the same routine. How often you are using them matters as well, because everyone has a different skin tolerance.

      Yes you can! You can use it before or after Niacinamide.
      The Ordinary recommends it like this:
      "If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first)."

      @@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Hi, I just found your channel! I really appreciate your effort. I have questions related to the ordinary azelaic acid 10% suspension. I have PIE scars on cheeks and just bought skintific retinol moisturizer as my second option beside skintific ceramides moisturizer. Skintific ceramides work well so far, I have seen it fading my scars. However, I'm interested to get azelaic acid as I heard it fungal acne safe. So, would you reccomend the ordinary azelaic acid to clear my PIE as well as fungal acne fighter? Do I need to postpone retinol moisturizer if taking azelaic acid or you have any direction to suggest? I heard about the ordinary niacinamide + zinc as well and I think zinc would beat fungal acne properly, so which one should I pick between azelaic acid and niacinamide + zinc from your perspective (I never used any of the ordinary product before)? Thanks in advance.

      If you are struggling with fungal acne, then it is best to visit a doctor so that he/she can prescribe you oral medicine for it; that is the best way to get rid of it. I also had it when I was younger and within a couple of weeks. Otherwise, you will never get rid of it.

      Yes, but as I mentioned already in other comments, Azelaic Acid tends to pill when too many products or too much is/are used. To avoid this, you need to wait for a little in between. It does not happen all the time, but often.

      It mainly depends on your genetics as to how well the skin 'heals' itself, so this process can take some time. But you can use these products to help speed it up, and I suggest using them in the following way:
      AM:
      Clean face
      Pat dry
      Apply Ordinary Niacinamide
      Wait 30-60 seconds
      Apply the Ordinary moisturizer
      Wait 1-2 minutes
      Apply sunscreen (if you are exposed to the sun)
      PM:
      Clean face
      Pat dry
      Apply the Ordinary moisturizer
      Wait 30-60 seconds
      Apply Azelaic Acid

      The choice depends on your skin type. For oily skin, I recommend using a gel-type moisturizer, while if your skin tends to be drier, consider using a lotion. Initially, I suggest applying Niacinamide in the morning and Azelaic Acid in the evening. Over time, you might find it possible to use both products together, twice a day.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  4 года назад

      Silicons do not clog pores; the only thing that may happen is when you are not cleansing your face correctly, "dirt" (dead skin cells, makeup, pollution, etc.) on your face can build up, and the silicon may come into your pores, and this mixture can lead to breakouts. But you will have this issue with a lot of skincare ingredients. So that's why you should always cleanse your face properly. Silicons do not cause acne or clog pores; they can prevent it since they build a protective layer if appropriately used.
      May I know where you get this information from and what else were they saying?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  4 года назад +2

      Hey😊
      How much do you use of each serum?
      Well, some people like this formulation and others said the same as you just mentioned. I guess that it also may depend on the skin and feeling you like.
      I do not recommend using Niacinamide after Azelaic Acid as it then sits on top of the skin and can't properly sink into the skin.
      Use 1-3 of Niacinamide, pat it into the skin, and give it a minute to soak into the skin. I may already absorb while patting it into the skin and then follow it up with a pea-size amount of Azelaic Acid.
      If you don't like the feeling of it, I recommend looking at the Paula's Choice Azelaic Acid as this cream formulation is different from the Ordinary.

      Vitamin C is great for fine lines and wrinkles that are already present and it can help to brighten the skin tone.
      Azelaic Acid helps to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes, helps to fade post-acne marks and other discolorations, refine skin’s surface, and reveal a more even skin tone.
      I recommend the Azelaic Acid😊
