I've been lucky enough to experience some of the Michael Da Brain tracks in a club. Its just as fun as you'd imagine, even more so if you're surrounded by people who have no idea wtf Midnight Club is. P.S: I know its still a really small phenomena, but video game soundtracks being part of DJ sets in clubs and festivals is actually increasing. I've been lucky enough to play some tracks from the Cyberpunk and Doom 2016 soundtrack, and I've heard everything from Pokemon and LoZ to Wipeout OST and remixes in clubs. Plus, VGM DJs are a thing, maybe you'll get lucky and find one performing near you!
Midnight Club 2's aesthetics combined with a soundtrack that actually tries to make every opponent and race feel unique, creates such a fantastic experience. It's a racing game with an actual atmosphere and tone of its own, dancing on the threshold of feeling believable and being some sort of a dreamlike music video in motion. While the trance music is pretty simple, its use here is excellent, making it easily the most effective soundtrack in the franchise. 3's has some good rock and occasional neat song, but it's mostly a very lackluster soundtrack with many baffling song choices and very homogenous drum and bass. LA is more consistent in quality, not having notable lows but also no notable highs, hitting that very passable middle ground soundtrack tier. I guess the first game also exists.
mc3 had a lot of awesome detroit techno picks though, which is very fitting considering detroit is one of the game's cities. the hip hop selection i think also did a better job representing what was actually relevant at the time than any other racing games, with a few real classics in there. i agree though that the dnb selection was pretty homogenous, especially considering theres like 8 calyx tracks, but theres a couple great tunes like renegade snares and final fantasy. overall i do like mc2's soundtrack more, but i think youre underselling 3 a bit
@@TomokoxKuroki I can agree on hip hop selection having a couple of neat ones, and Welcome to Jamrock was a pretty good.reggae song. The electronic music I found to be rather weak, sometimes bafflingly weird and cut down, sounding more like sketches rather than fully fleshed out ideas. So all in all I like about 20% of the soundtrack if even that. The large selection ends up making it feel very inconsistent in terms of quality. Sean Paul makes me laugh every time I hear it.
Midnight club 2 wasn't just a game it was a stereotypical musical experience that everyone loves, the characters have their own theme, car and race style
MC2 while stoned is not the best of ideas... But listening to Michael Da Brain sure is. Amazing what a 303, 909 and some distortion can do to the soul.
