We're at that KOA now, for most of this week. However, we've become disenchanted with the way they run the joint so we're about to bail for another long-term destination until the end of ski season.
Back in the 80’s we only stayed at KOA’s to do laundry and get a good shower. Back then it was a very expensive $12 a night for sleeping in our pickup. State parks were less than $5. We were recommended to stay at one up at Lassen, but we just couldn’t bring ourselves to do it. They are a great place if you have children. The person that recommended it has two little girls and their family use lots of water. It’s kind of like you have a horse that’s been cooped up and now is chomping at the bit to get out of that stable and little corral and hit the trails!!! “Just do it!” Ram
@@laughingram7287 this KOA is a little bit different. It's two parks in one, they intermingle yet the owners try to treat it as two separate businesses. The KOA "side" is for overnight and weekly guests, whereas their "residential community" side is for monthlies. First we were pissed that they insisted upon having our SSNs for a monthly site. They don't need that. Then they wouldn't take a reservation for a monthly, you can't turn in your application until you arrive with your RV on site and then you're placed on the waiting list for a monthly -- all the while paying $60/night in the KOA while you wait. Their application included a number of other questions that frankly are illegal to ask, but they'll reject any application not completed 100%. There was little fine print that they charged extra for electric space heater use, etc., etc. In the end we decided, "screw 'em." I haven't turned in the app. We'll move on Friday to another park that's in a much better location, but is decidedly rougher around the edges with much smaller sites, too -- and 50% more money per month. Sometimes you have to take a stand on principle.
@@laughingram7287 you see, that's the thing. Because they're "separate businesses" the monthlies aren't actually part of the KOA -- even though it's integrated into the property of the KOA.
It's going to be a challenge, Ron, but I think we have itfigured out. We are going to mount a front hitch on the truck, and then put a ladder rack in that front hitch. We will then take the existing Yakima bars that we have, put them on the cab, and have the kayak stretch out above the hood.
