      I feel you, I need to make 15 characters and 45 costumes in a month, from scratch, to texturing, to hair grooming. Realistic style. By myself. And then also write the stories for each character, design the logos, and the lore of the universe. Not to mention rendering thousands of frames in 4k with my wee laptop. All in about 1 month

    I’ve tried to follow some tutorials on 3D animation since there’s some specific combat animations I want for my game that aren’t being sold in the UE Marketplace. It all seems extremely time consuming especially with all the key frames you have to do. The easier way out is probably mocap but there are stylized animations that you just cannot capture with natural movement. Props to all the animators and artists out there, the work process requires a lot of patience.

    You could take the information and break it down to say a 5 minute animated piece, animation music and dialog! Most people outside the business have no idea how much time and money it takes to put a finished product out. Short story I was working on a short 30 second animated insert for a movie, so the director was hovering over giving suggestions on color shape pacing and so on, I finally snapped and ask him how long would it take to do this live or stop motioned or traditionally animated. He clapped back and said it should take no time since it's on the computer!

    I'm a college student in animation, I modeled the character models, rigged, made some props and environment. I also had other students or outside of school to help with other aspect of the project, like music and get a graphic artist. The video will be around 1 minute and a half. I already worked on it in the Fall semester for several months with feedback on story, script, etc from my Professors and classmates. Now in Spring semester I still need to fix a few things and finish rigging to start animating. My personal laptop is in the repair shop with broken fans so I am borrowing a computer. Have my work backed up. It's been a crazy process in my final Senior year in college and I learned a lot. I went for a more stylized look because it's the style I aim for in my portfolio, but it still took a lot of work. I hope I will be able to complete my work while also having other mandatory classes in order to graduate. Honestly I feel like I am perfectionist and I'm not too thrilled with my animation portfolio, I feel even when I am done with college, I want to keep improving on my skills and getting better along the way.

      Don't underestimate it, to some degree I would say 2d is faster depending on what you are doing. A professional use about a week to make a full complete model with ready rigging and thats not even touching animation or the rendering process, etc. Much of the 3d pipeline doesn't exist in 2D which normally you have a team of people filling those specialized areas, and if you are alone doing it its gonna take tremendous time unless you want the quality to suffer.

    • @Reaxxcartoons
      @Reaxxcartoons 2 года назад +5

      @@WieldMyWord fair enough, tbh it really depends what you are doing really , some type of animation 2D would be faster and others not, the advantages 3D have is once things are all modelled and rigged , making Episode 2 would almost half the workload than the first time since you’re just re using assets

    Even if the character being modeled is cartoony or simple I think 1-2 days is kind of too short. You have to consider iteration and general design testing. For example I'm working on a film right now and all my concept art for characters are 2D sketches, transferring a design from 2D to 3D takes a lot of trial and error to get the right personality or feeling. Requires a lot of trying out different shapes to make sure the silhouette is there and it still feels like the same character once its taken a new form.

    I work with physical art mediums, and i’ve been attending classes on maya for the past 1 month. To be honest, it’s physically exhausting. It takes forever to do high detail modelling. I’d say the softwares must be strong enough to do the whole process itself. What’s the point in spending your life with manipulating those meshes in a digital sculpture. I’m not getting the kind of satisfaction that i get from sculpting with clay.

      This is one of the most backward things I've heard. I've never actually taken the time to work and learn how to manipulate clay, but I do know how to manipulate "those meshes" in a digital sculpture. If you're passionate, not only it is not exhausting, it is invigorating. It's as if I talk about something I dislike and how it drains me, of course it will. If you like traditional sculpting, stick to traditional.

    as an animator, i figured out that the problem between 2d and 3d its....3d animation by standart its defined to be over exagerated on every movemente...why? dunno, im sure it can be done more faster if they werent caring about to look well on 360°....meaning that the directors need to be clear with this, most time its their fault this kind of behabior, why? cuz if u made it perfect on every angle and the director comes and tell to the animation team, u know what...i know we was working on this 3 seconds of animation this whole month, but lets change the angle....
    im sure it can be more faster and improve a lot taking out of the box a lot of wrong preconcept about 3d animation topic...
    this is exactly like the problem with topology, ppl who think triangles are the devil, and ppl who actually made a well done work using geometry at their benefit...this apply the same with animation...
