We just used a track that allow the top bushing bolt to travel forward and back, sort of like how an alternator belt was tightened on older cars. Aim it toward where the exhaust originates and it'll expand and contract on a single plane of movement. That eliminates the arc that a swinging arm would produce.

Very impressive setup there. The engine sounds great with that airboat prop. I can't help but wonder how much dry grass and small rocks he is going to get in his oil cooler though from the strong prop blast.
Is there a class of prop powered Drag racers?? (not forgetting that the prop os off a swamp boat - So like those "sleds", brute force is its reason for being. Will be a day to see the whole lot just as home on floats in the everglades as in the Wilds "back of Valdez".

Did you do a ceramic coating inside the exhaust system piping to help keep the pipes from getting so hot ? It helps with lowered cowling temps. Outfit in Sandy, UT High Performance coatings, does that work. The ceramic wraps on the outside is bad for the pipes, as you most likely know.

And hey, still better than having to rebuild the plane every time...
Jeebus... Scrappy sounds like a top fuel dragster.. that acceleration is nuts what a build Mike stunning
I Love your videos, Mr Patey. My dad and I are both EAA members from Argentina. Much respect.
🇦🇷♥️
Sounds like a old monster engine muscle car when you twist the wick! LOVE IT MAN!!!
BTW I'm just a Car/Truck master tech for 35+ years. Even I will never reuse exhaust gaskets! Your are asking for a leak! Donuts at the flange of manifold. Sure if still not torn up. But never gaskets.
I love watching your videos. I miss the days we got to build and fix cars. Now days it's just diagnose & replace! I miss fixing or rebuilding components.
How far out for the wings, are you filming that currently?
As of a couple weeks ago the wings were still in the computer. He might’ve built the cowling by now?
Yeah, he said the wings are the last thing - he'll only finalise the wing design once everything else is settled, so that the wing will be exactly right for the plane.
Did anyone else notice at the end it showed scrappy hooked up to a chevy pickup then next view/clip it was a Dodge. 😁
Mike wow does she sound great. It's got that old school big block thunder and sound from a dig. Music to my ears.
With that amount of power, wings become optional...
Haha! He’d need a tail rotor though. Lol
Awesome. Stol drag... regular drags...
I must have missed scrappys cameo!
Dam Mike that prop looks like boat-oars...
It is off a boat!
Airboat oars.
Of c-oars
Very clever use of PVC to make the exhaust pattern. Wow! Does Scrappy move fast. Give her some Red Bull and get those wings.
That sounds amazing!! You are the most inspiring person I’ve ever seen.
Scrappy would look good landing in Cleetus McFarland’s Freedom Factory! Much love man, love the series!
Not only is the engineering great, but the aesthetic design is incredible. This is what it would look like if KTM designed an airplane.
God bless you sir , world needs more people like you guys
I was just thinking about how i was showing signs of scrappy withdrawals.
Know that you are not suffering through this addiction alone 😄
Very impressive setup there. The engine sounds great with that airboat prop. I can't help but wonder how much dry grass and small rocks he is going to get in his oil cooler though from the strong prop blast.
Next time someone says they don't have enough hours in a day, send them this.
the sound, the sound...what a gorgeous piece of engineering art
probably one of the coolest planes ive ever seen
I happy your emphasis is double check everything and replace parts when in doubt. You can't go wrong!
If it doesnt take to the air, you can always drag race it.
Is there a class of prop powered Drag racers?? (not forgetting that the prop os off a swamp boat - So like those "sleds", brute force is its reason for being. Will be a day to see the whole lot just as home on floats in the everglades as in the Wilds "back of Valdez".
The runs down the runway look like runs from a dragster!!! Sounds awesome too! Impressive!!!
Will have to land and take off on an aircraft carrier, talk to the Navy about a promotional stunt with Scrappy.
Sideways
That acceleration!!! Oh my god!!!
Very well done Mr Patey!
Wish i could see it from up close!
Where is this 'tiny' bushplane Mike keeps talking about?!?
Is it parked behind Scrappy?!?
Great work. It's good to see someone so thorough with development and testing. There are no second chances when you are in the air. You have to be confident that you have put the very best into making sure it's right before flying.
Just got caught up on the last video no more than a hour ago, checked to see if #34 was out yet, got bummed out, then this happened! Haha, getting closer every week.
Wow, who knew that the internal combustion engine in an airplane would benefit from the same tuning mods as the internal combustion engine in an airboat..
This guy ,men.. overdoing himself every time. That's the fucking spirit. Great job
Someone needs to build a mod for FS2020 for this plane. If you're that someone who makes community mods for flight sims, please help us.
Drako (if I’m spelling it correctly) would’ve been awesome in the sim too.
@@rihamy2nd absolutely! Draco would be wonderfull. (Scrappy ofcourse as well). Allthough my guess is that it would seem unrealistic in it's performance (in comparison to all the other planes) even when it is 100% correctly modeled and setup.
Wow! It's like a P-51 Mustang with Bush wheels. Thank you Mike! Cheers from Switzerland! Luca
Neighbors: hey, are you building a dragster? Sounds like it !
Mike : Naaaaa... it’s my new plane. Don’t have wings yet. Just took it for a small run...
So inspiring watching all the details come together over the past year and seeing it shoot down the runway. Looking forward to seeing Scrappy with wings and taking to the air 👍👍👍👍👍. All the very best for the next step.
If I was a kid I'd have wanted to be like you, but I'm too damn old already!
At 56, I tell my kids, "We're just young minds trapped in aging bodies!" Never give up. Never give in:)
@@campupnort1905 At 69 I tell my grandkids and great grand kids the same thing, lol...
@@campupnort1905 Haha, at 64 I'm not giving in, just missed the plane, that's all!
But you are all still probably too young to be a us president aperently.
@@nhytg376tgyuu765gjmg Oh yes, there's that!!! Not a lost case yet! 😁
Watching this build in awe. Not that I have any big clue, but so cool to follow! And that propeller reminds me a bit of the Clement Ader Eole from 1890 :p ...
