Can't forget the most essential knitting item is a kettle to boil water for tea.

I would add a small crochet hook to pick up the occasional dropped stitch.

    Hi Nadine.
We’ve missed you! Happy to see a new video.
I agree with the crochet hook for dropped stitches. I have two stitch markers holders. One for the bulb and clip type markers and another for the decorative ones I use for marking the right side of the project. Scissors. Sock ruler that’s a slap bracelet style. Darning needle. Lip balm. Comb. They all fit in a tall plastic box with lid the my drink mixes come it. It has everything needed and can hold a couple pairs of small sock needles also. I can just grab and drop in my project bag whenever I want to head out with my knitting.

Pattern are in plastic sleeves , inserted in a dollar store folder with the metal tabs that holds loose leaf paper. I used dry erase markers and write all over them. :D
I've made my own row counters, best I can describe it is like an abacus , it is small , hangs on the neeedle at the beginning of the round and I pull down a bead each time I come to it. I used 10 tiny beads and so it counts up to 100.
Stitch markers , a pair of small snips, tapestry needle (metal with bent tip) fits into one of those tubes that my mechanical pencil leads came in. , measuring tape and one of those sets of 3 half crochet hooks on a ring for fixing any dropped stitches
Don't have but .........my dream pouch would be a small rectangular based one 8mm by 18mm by 8 mm tall/ deep ish ?? with zipper top that opens up completely so it is like a little box.
I have not found this magical pouch yet . :D

A small pair of scissors, tape measure, stitch holder, row counter, tapestry needles, stitch markers and stitch stoppers. I also have a couple of cable needles, a needle threader and a crochet hook. Great topic btw.
When I've looked at interchangeable sets they seem to start mid range of the sizes and go up to thick ones which I'd never use as I do not like chunky yarn. I'd have rather had a set which started at small size and went up to about 4.5 or 5mm. I have every size known in straight needles and I'm gradually accumulating circulars in the sizes I use most, but it is expensive.

I love the Chiaogoo needles! A fantastic investment. The joins are so smooth the yarn doesn’t catch and the cords are the best out there. I also have little plastic tags with the needle size on them in case I need to use my needles on a new project. Makes sure I remember what size needles I was using when I get back to the project.

Hi Nadine, great tooic. I've been knitting for 77 years and have inherited needles, patterns and notions from older relatives so you can imagine how big my box is. I travel a lot housesitting so everything you have on your lovely plate I have in a small divided plastic storage box so they are portable. When I haven't got that box beside me I am very unsettled. I keep thinking crochet needles around to rescue me when I drop a stitch. They go missing in my couch and I have probably purchased twenty (they are super cheap. My couch is a really heavy sectional so I need help to move it, but when I get that help, it will be a treasure trove of stitch markers, stitch fixers and who knows what else!!! 😂

I keep small tins and use them in my project bags. That way I can get the larger or smaller notions as needed. I carry hair pins/grips because my hair has an attitude. I have some hand issues so I carry a needle puller grip ( similar to the grippy bit that can come with interchangeable needles), a large needle threader, and sharp scissors. I also have a small highlighter to mark my paper pattern. Oh, and recently found a small clip on light so I can knit when it’s darker (wool or time of day!).

My latest purchase. Knitpro magnetic chart holder to read the pattern rows which stands up. I tick off my rows the old fashioned way with columns. Love my barber cords so I can try on my garment in progress and not have to get out another circular needle cord. Love my Chiaogoo sets. But dont use the 5+mm sizes yet. A little tiny tin with a secure lid, holds my stitch markers. And of course a cup of tea/coffee. And watch knitting podcasts.

Great video! I keep all my knitting kneccesities (see what I did there ;-) in a small notions pouch which easily moves wherever I need it to go, from the office, to the couch, to my tote bag, wherever I need it. As for keeping track of my patterns, I use to print out the pattern and scribble all over it, but now I have an app called Knit Companion. It connects with Ravelry and I can access it on both my phone and my tablet. Best part about it is that if it is on my phone it has an option that the screen never times out.

As I also sew, I made a zipped bag with a clear, plastic window to hold my knitting or crochet notions. I crocheted a tiny rainbow 🌈 to act as a needle keeper for my metal darning needles. I also have a tape measure, row counter, scissors, crochet hook, stitch markers, needle size gauge, spiral-shaped cable needles , as yet unused, and reading glasses 👓. When I started knitting, 2 years ago, I researched needles and started buying Addi lace fixed circulars, Knitpro Symphonie circulars and, in emergencies, Pony circulars. I have so many I sewed a hanger with slots for all the sizes, so that they are not stored curled up. Now I'm wondering if I should buy a set of interchangeable needles. Everyone in my craft group here in England is still using straights they have inherited! I say straight needles are so last century!😂 Love your videos. ❤

I love the bonus feel I get when my clothes come with a free stitch marker, too 😂 Small pleasures. My little dishes always have items flowing in and out and not always what I thought I chose the dish for (love the earrings, and the bra parallel 😆). My additional item is a crochet hook for dropped stitches.

I always look forward to your videos. I find them so relaxing and fun to watch as part of my morning routine.
I love your little dish of notions, but it would never survive in my house with my cats. I keep my notions in a little tin that used to hold mints. My row counter is on my phone, but I have been known to use sticky notes for more involved patterns. I have a clipboard for my printed patterns, but I've recently purchased a tablet for pattern downloads to make them more portable. I have far more knitting related items than I'll ever need, but I just love them. If I visit a yarn store I always feel I need to buy something, even if it's just some fun stitch markers. Do I need them? No, but it makes me happy.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for another great video.

My essentials are scissors, a measuring tape, millions of lightbulb stitch markers (Gorman used to have pink ones to attach their tags and I used to save the tags when I was a bit of a Gorman addict, well before I was a knitter. I knew they would eventually come in handy!), a tightening key if my needles come loose, and a small crochet hook for fixing dropped stitches. I also find a sock ruler very handy as I knit socks quite a bit as gifts. For my own foot I know my row count off the top of my head but for someone with a different size, I find a sock ruler very handy.

Lovely video Nadine! I agree there’s not much that one really needs for this hobby. Now that I use them though, I feel like I can’t get by without my project bags. I have a main knitting bag (Last year I treated myself to a Joji and Co bag) and inside I keep each work in progress its own cloth bag. This helps me keep my work clean and organized. Oh yes, and Barber Cords. I love them and feel like I “need” another set. 😊

Stitch markers (either light bulb or plain round silicone ones), tape measure, crochet hook, sewing and darning needles, barrel row counter, pencil, rubber (have all my patterns printed out) highlighter pen for patterns that have multiple sizes, cardboard cutout of my foot for socks, and a small pair of scissors. And an iPad for watching knitting podcasts…

I was surprised to see that you had made such a big investment in the interchangeable needle set early in your passion. It’s way too late for me - I must have spent double that on the needles I have now accumulated. When I get to the sleeves and don’t have a 40cm version I kick myself a bit. The upside is that I think of each needle as having its own personality 😊 and sometimes a wooden needle is what I want to use instead of metal, or vic I was surprised to see that you had made such a big investment in the interchangeable needle set early in your passion. The upside is that I think of each needle as having its own personality 😊 and sometimes a wooden needle is what I want to use instead of metal, or vice versa. Currently my favourites are KnitPro Symfonie which are light and very pointy 😊 My knitting essentials live in a little fabric square bowl I made which includes a side pocket where my embroidery scissors live. Inside, there’s a needle size thing (called a “Round View Sizer”), AirPods for listening to audiobooks, little rose gold, retractable tape measure, a tin of Magic Cords from Skein Sisters, wide post-its for place marking on my pattern, gold bent Clover tapestry needles in their little rocket. Various stitch markers live in a Thai candy tin, and there is another little tin of gifted stitch markers from Hodgepodge skeins which are like the simple metal ones you talked about. I have added beads and little pearls to some of mine for extra joy 🎉 . The bowl lives in a pretty wire basket with wooden handle from Bunnings, alongside my Lumos light, transitional glasses and lens cleaner, so the whole lot can be picked up with one hand. 😊 Thank you for your lovely episodes. I’m in Newcastle and it’s good to have an Australian knitter’s insights. I have knitted several scarves now and used Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury 8 ply in a sweater on your recommendation. All on high rotation during these last chilly weeks.

Awesome podcast. I went through a lot of needles before finding the ones that work best for me. Something in my body takes the finish off the needles. The only ones I found work for me is the ChiaGoo stainless steel needles and I do have a few of the Chrome KnitPicks interchangeables and they work for me too. I tend to have basics for stitch markers, both full circle and ones that open. A little pair of scissors and a little case of darning needles.

I used to have a dish, but I now use a cute Emma Ball 'sheep in jumpers' lidded box tin. I have a 2mm unhandled crochet hook to pick up stitches on socks as well as reclaiming dropped stitches. I also have a jar of iddy biddy wool ends, but they go to a friend for stuffing for her amigurumi. My oldest grandie girl took longer pieces out of the jar, made adorable named stitch markers using her lettered beads. All family members now have a 'stitch marker' with their name spelt in beads & some tassels, which goes with the project I'm making for them. They're my favourites but I don't recommend using them while watching something thrilling, might come across having 'knitted' the stitch markers, lol. I do have a spiral cable needle, which is an awesome tool. I knit at my desk, I use a screen splitter, watch something on the monitor, while reading a pattern on my laptop. The monitor sits just above the laptop, but I do use an A5 spiral notebook where I record the project details (start/finish date, yarn, pattern name, needles size etc) and use tally marks to count my rows, so there's a pencil sharpener in the tin too. Of course knitting should be accompanied a beverage in a cup that's the shape of a skein of wool......

My knitting kit is in a little zip pouch and is pretty similar to yours. I use knitpro interchangeables. Mainly because when I knit in the round, except for my beanie needles, I use 2 circulars. Buying these meant I could buy as i needed, otherwise I would have had to buy 2 sets of needles straight up which I couldn't afford. Of course to go with the needles you need the little key to tighten them. I use little micro snips or embroidery scizzors, a variety of stitchmarkers... although the lightbulb ones are my favourite as they are so slimline, a crochet hook, darning needles, my little notebook and pen to record my projects and notes as I knit, my magnetic pattern holder for when I do intarsia and my tablet where I use the Knit Companion app for my patterns..... and Ravelry, RUclips, Instagram and Google for looking up things i need along the way!
