I think your yarn stash size is just right. It is small enough to be manageable yet have some space for a little bit of growth. Yet, big and varied enough to be able to pull projects out of it on a whim. Beautiful stash.
This would be a large stash to me. But I'm from a "developing country" so our notion of overconsumption is very different from people in the US. I think your idea of bringing it down to the three big bins is great. I know I would personally feel lighter with a slightly smaller stash
I’d say it’s the perfect medium yarn stash, you have plans for almost everything but then also enough that if you come up with an idea, you don’t have to go shopping. I’m currently studying abroad in Germany and one thing I’ve noticed about yarn shopping here is that everything (everything ive personally seen) is at least oeko-tex certified, which is the only way i’ll buy any yarn or fabric after reading “to dye for”, and also priced at a point that is 100% economically sustainable for the makers. It’s nice being able to go grab something really quick and not feel the need to do a bunch of research beforehand and once I get back to the US I will continue buying the majority of my yarn from Europe and local sellers.
your use of budget yarn is what i really love about your channel. drops is the most accessible yarn for me (besides local rustic yarn that isn't suitable for all projects) so i love using your channel for drops reviews!
I always think it’s interesting to see how other people sort their yarn- by color, fiber, etc., and thanks for sharing your thoughts about the yarn as well! And I loved how practical you are with not deciding that organizing requires purchasing new containers! I try to think about my stash like a library because it’s not something to be hidden away and never interacted with, or jealously guarded like a hoard (I try to be a good sharer with my mom, daughter, and sister). My yarn library is arranged by yarn weight. I didn’t get a sense from your video of how much yarn you have in different weights. Sorting mine that way has helped me to notice what I actually use (fingering and sport) and don’t (bulky), which then helps me with purchasing and with project planning. I also have a separate place for sweater quantities and another “special” box for kits/fades/favorite dyers. Lastly, I suspect you might be a spinner at heart! I learned how a couple years ago and now I also have a box of handspun :).
It’s Sunday, it’s raining in Yorkshire ,I’m knitting and hoping there is a new Breathing Yarn to watch …and there it is 😁Thank you for this Isabella! I think that your knitting stash is just right but that’s because it is about the same size as mine and the proportion of Drops Yarn to others the same too. I love to try locally produced British non superwash yarns when I can afford them but am also a great fan of Drops. I really appreciate your take on all things yarn and the knitting community , it is very refreshing in these days of consumption and competitiveness.
I think this is a reasonable (medium) stash! It doesn't feel like you've bought most of it for no reason because you do have a plan for how to use it. It would be large for me because I try to only buy yarn when I'm immediately going to use it, but that's just me lol
I'm impressed you ”sacrificed" a ball of yarn to make the tea, that's dedication :) I really appreciate your comments about how the yarn feels and how well the finished items do after you've used them for some time, that's the most valuable information for me. A fellow fan of Drops Air here, I've only made two hats with it so far but love how light and soft it is! From my personal perspective, I'd say your stash is big, but objectively it's of a medium size.
That looks like a perfectly medium-sized stash. It's larger than mine, but smaller than a lot of the other youtubers' stashes I see. This was a really interesting video, thanks for sharing!
To me personally, this feels like a large stash. I tend to buy yarn when I have a specific project in mind & I've already bought the pattern. Only exception to this is when I'm travelling and have access to yarn not available in my country. I also move a lot + am new to crochet/knitting so I'm sure that helps keep the stash small. I will say, you seem very aware of your yarn consumption compared to most content creators I've seen, and it's very refreshing.
Oh yes and thank you for sharing the information on the yarns that you do own, that's a big help for us out here who are not quite as adept as you are😊
Some gorgeous colors. I love that you are not afraid of colors. Also, I would love to buy you a colorwork pattern from your wish list, can you link your Ravelry? Thank you!
I knew I recognized the Emma's Yarn!! My knitting club road trips every year to the Minnesota Yarn Shop Hop and we always stop by Harriet and Alice. Lots of love for H&A!
I wish my stash were that size. Perfectly manageable. I have been knitting for over 40 years..mine is massive and I am on a strict no-buy mission to knit some of it up.
This video introduced me to your channel and I'm absolutely off to watch more of your videos! I think you have a perfect small-medium size stash, and it looks like it serves you well for what you create 😊
For me personally, this much yarn would stress me out. A lot of the yarn would never be used fast enough by my standards, and I would constantly feel like I'm failing the yarn that I already have by buying more. But this is coming from a very broke college student, so take that with a heavy grain of salt. On the other side of things, I can imagine it's nice to have so many options when you're ready to cast on a new project! (Also, thanks for making this video! I mentioned I'd like to see your yarn stash a couple weeks ago, and it was really fun to watch!)
This stash is so perfect! Not too small to have constant urge for buying more yarn, not too big to get overwhelmed by it. Filled with yarns You know and also haven't knited with yet. I would love to see You adding same info/graphic about projects You have in mind while talking about pieces in Your stash. I organize mine stash by purpose: for friends, for mine planned projects, scraps and bought because it was nice, but without project in mind. So seeing Your plans for stash could be inspiring ❤
Your video was great! I liked hearing about the yarns you have used and the little tidbits about drape, longevity, etc. Yes, I would watch another one of these in the future! And yes the granny square project would be great with those colors. I’m working on one now in a similar range of colors and it is very fun. Love the cats too!
This was one of my favorite stash tour/stash organizing videos. Loved how you described each yarn, what you liked & disliked about it, color options, if you would buy it again, & had a clip of what you made out of it. I'd say this is a solid medium sized stash. If you like drapey yarns I highly recommend Lion Brand's Truboo: 100% bamboo rayon, dk, & a great color selection (but very splitty).
I would totally watch another video like this to see how your stash fluctuates. I saw some other videos about stashes and how people got overwhelmed by it and wanted to ged rid of things - in short: a lot of less thoughtful accumulation up to that point. But I really like your kind of reasoning about your purchases and I think it is interesting to hear your thoughts about your changing stash as it fluctuates over time. Maybe what did you learn from it or how your habits and preferences changed and how can you see (or just not see) that in your changing stash? In addition, I like the amount of stash if one can say that. It's not as massive as with some other creators. I'd say it's a good medium stash and I don't see a lot of small of medium stashes (which is why I don't see myself in these). I think we should be more reasonable about our stashes, dependent on how much and which items do we really like to knit/ crochet. It makes a difference if you knit a lot of pullovers or just hats and socks. Edit: I forgot to mention, I absolutely love your cinematic intro!
I've never thought about how tshirt/tube yarn would be good for teaching because of stitch definition! thats genius! and the sentimental value only adds to it! I would definitely like to see how your stash changes, stash videos are a fun way to see what's out there and hear the pros and cons while also learning more about personal taste. It's interesting how much diversity can be found grouped under the single category of "yarn" even if not all of it is my cup of tea!
I used differing colors of Fisherman's Wool for a blanket for my husband. it turned out really well, and worked out to be cheap, too, thanks to coupons and sales.
I thought the same about the fisherman's wool, but when I made a sample swatch and washed it, it was so much softer than I could have imagined. I was going to make a blanket with mine but I ended up making a vest and it is so nice and soft. I am really sensitive around the neck also. If you have a question about how a yarn will be at your most sensitive areas, make a small swatch, wash it and then wear it next to your skin for awhile to see how it feels.
It would be a pretty big stash to me, personally. I think my stash right now is perfect for me, and it fills two of those big bins. More than that starts to feel very overwhelming. But that's just me!
I love reorganizing my yarn! I get so much inspiration looking at color combos, etc. A thought popped in my head: the Coates & Co. minis and the beige Drops extra fine merino can make a really cute striped cardigan! Daft Days by Rebecca Clow, Andrea Mowry has at least two that I can think of, and there's the Livresque by Espace Tricot. There are zillions of others but those are the ones that come to mind...
Thah intro was *hilarious*. And I'd say it's a fairly medium sized stash but also very well curated, I definitely have more random "oh that's pretty I'll have three!" yarn in my stash I have no idea what to use for.
I think that your yarn stash is a good size. Looking at it in the containers, it does seem like a lot, but in your run through of it I got the impression that you have some distinct plans for a bunch of it, and that you are exploring some new-to-you yarns, so it makes sense that you have all that! You are a consistent maker, so I have no doubt that you will put it to good use, and that it will shrink, and then grow again ha ha! I just moved into an apartment and got all my yarn in one place, and I am concerned by the amount of it. It is however decades of accumulation. I am diligently working on using it but it's slow going.
3 things 1. Love this video! So cozy to organize yarn with you 2. For the peer gynt you wanted to knit socks with, be aware that socks in that kind of yarn will get holes very easily! It has no nylon and therefore wears down in no time when used as roughly as socks get used. (if you want to make socks without plastic I would recommend using a pretty tightly spun yarn) 3. Try checking out “Laerke Bagger” She does a lot of knitting with scraps and is pretty cool (in my opinion) maybe you could get some inspiration for you “junk draw” yarn❤
I really enjoy seeing other people's yarns and going on a little organization journey, ty for sharing 😊 from my personal perspective this looks like a large yarn stash--but only if I imagine it being mine. I find it overwhelming to have more than ~2 sweaters' worth and 2-4 hats/socks' worth of yarn, but that's just for me. I also have a LYS really nearby, and if I order supplies online they usually come within two weeks, so it's nbd to buy as I need. Though I'm going to Flock next month so we'll see how things look after that 😂
I bought a LOT of the Eddie Bauer (exclusive to JoAnn) yarn called Cozy Camp. I'm on blanket 3 of four for sons, son-in-law, and cousin for Christmas. Personally I really like it. Washed in gentle, and although it calls for flat dry, I tumbled on gentle. Turned out great. Just one color, the Gray, stayed icky and stiff.
Your stash is just right, I'm envious that you kept it so manageable. Mine is huge because I tuck it away out of sight and forget I have it. Thanks for the inspiration as I'm going to de-stash and buy only what I need for a certain project. Happy Knitting!
I'm "out of mind out of sight", too, and most of my yarn is tucked away in boxes (because I saw a MOTHHH) but I made gauge swatches from almost all my yarns (or little tassles from some), and put those on a wall. That way, I feel like I still have a good overview of what I own.
I have less yarn but I mainly sew and I have been getting into knitting slowly as I found it difficult to understand how yarn works and to get yarn that worked for the projects I want to make. That's why I love that you say if the yarn is easy to work with, how the end result is, wether it maintains the garment's shape over time and such. I also love this type of organising and collection videos, small and big collections. So great video ❤
I would say you have a lovely small stash of wonderful yarn mines a little bigger and it does tend to overwhelm me so I hide it in a cupboard 😅 you have definitely made me want to try drops to make a garment of some description loving your videos from a very we Hampshire in the UK XX
I think that your yarn is medium size compared to the yarn I had which covered an 8 ft high by 12 ft long closet wall with several project bags full. I have used up more than half over the years and donated some. I absolutely love the variety of brands and types you have. I have used Hersheners yarn for years for everything from rug hooking to lace shawls.
Great stash size! Mine takes up most of a spare bedroom and it’s completely unmanageable. If next time you could include info/ your observation about if a finished garment grew a lot when blocking I’d be super interested to know. Thanks!
Loved your opening😂. Great video. I don’t have much experience with Drops but I will try some new projects with Drops. It’s a medium size stash - perfect for you! 🧶
Perfectly sized yarn stash 😊 I would have liked if at the end you said what you ended up with, like, this is my box of cotton blends, enough to make x number of x
I honestly expected you to have more yarn, this is a medium size stash! For reference, I think I have a size large stash, with the implication that there are also extra large, extra extra large and etc. stashes out there.
As others have mentioned, LOVED your intro…! As for your yarn stash size, small - bordering on medium. I have mine organized by fingering, worsted, etc.. If I had a variety of types of yarn, like you do, I might organize differently (but I don’t). Most of my knitting is pretty basic, but I’m still growing my knitting knowledge, so that may change! Great video!
I personally would call this a medium stash, mostly because it's a similar size to me and I don't like thinking I have a big stash lol. I think it could be way bigger with how tempting and what a dopamine rush yarn buying is compared to actually making all the projects we plan lol. I have a huge problem with coming up with fun projects, getting yarn for them and then changing my mind or forgetting about it. And it causes me to overspend alot tbh. Oh well, I like having a bigger stash to shop from when I cant wait to go out for yarn or for shipping.
I have a very similar size yarn stash which I would say is medium to small and for me it works great! I also want to size down a little bit but it works really well for me where I know exactly what I have and it’s not too overwhelming. Love your videos!
I dont like having a stash of yarn beyond what I have plans for, I worry that I'd never use it otherwise. The ladies at the knit group sometimes talk about what'll happen to their massive collections when they pass, and I just can't imagine having so much that it gets to that point. The only thing I seem to accumulate is sock yarn, since I figure I'll get to it eventually. Also I've started spinning, so a solid chunk is just yarn I've made for practice. And yes, it does bug me that I dont know what to do with that yarn yet.
Maybe try the drops brushed alpaca held with the superwash Marino. Swatch and block to see how you like the fabric. I love the brushed alpaca after blocking and I don't do itchy either but don't love how superwash grows. That drops is a stable option for pairing with other yarn. 💙
looks about the same size as my stash and i've only been at it for a few years. so i guess that means i think it's medium?? i was thinking your stash looked too nice to be real until you brought out the last box LOL, thank you for sharing!
to my standards thats a big stash! not as big as it could get from what i have seen in yt channels but i only usually by yarn for a project when im finished with my last so it would fit everything into one of your bins very easily
I'd say it's a medium sized stash partially because I have a similar size and would like to believe it's not small or big! You've reminded me to go through mine and reorganize it, something I like to do twice a year. The ones I don't have a project for or isn't sentimental, I'll put them up for sale to make some money and space for new ones. Probably not the most financially savvy move but it keeps the yarn endorphins flowing.
I organize my yarn by type/brand and is it fancy. Ive got multiple small bins: aldi cotton, aldi felting fool, acrylic, sockyarn, scraps, others and fancy (and then there is the overflow drawer. It holds mostly non-fancy/others yarn, abandoned wips, and some vintage crochet-cotton my mom gave me)
I’m going to make a big felted knit bag with my fisherman’s wool! I ordered mine online and when I felt it I knew immediately that it was going to be too scratchy for any clothing item!
First of all, a big stash is when you fell overwhelmed with your yarn, a small stash is when you always run out of yarn and medium stash is whenever you feel comfortable. There is no one fast rule "this many grams/skeins/metres are too many/too little" I think my own stash is comparable in size to yours, though made of very different yarns. Since 2019 I've been slowly and consistently changing the makeup of my stash - as a baby crocheter I obviously didn't know what I would like later on - but, surprisingly, the overall amount of yarn stays fairly constant My question for you would be - what kinds of yarn would you like to eliminate from your stash and which ones would you like to make your staples? You speak as if you really enjoy almost all of them, but are there any plans for the future?
I think that’s a perfect sized stash and would class it as medium. It’s bigger than mine but so much neater. Mine is currently stored in colour coded drawers and it doesn’t work for me. Like you, I try to pass on my skills so that the art never dies. I was in my early thirties when my mum died and we’d somehow never got round to her teaching me how to knit. But I did save all her knitting needles. I finally taught myself how to knit and have since passed Mum’s needles to my sister and I’ve also taught her to knit now. Lastly, I’m intrigued by what looks like pom-pom flowers on the wall behind you; did you make them? And if so, did you happen to RUclips it and I’ve missed it?
Love your beautiful story about passing on the art of knitting! Also, I did not record the flowers on the wall. I had a few felt ball garlands that i wasn’t using so I took them apart and glued the balls together to look like flowers. I really like them 🥰
I’d call that a medium stash. I have no idea how big mine is because it’s squirreled away all over the house. I guess that says it’s more than I can manage. Or more than I care to admit! ~Brenda
I think your stash is large, but only because mine is only 11 balls of yarn of varying sizes, I just tend to buy more after I'm done knitting a project, for a specific project. Most of the balls in my stash are just leftovers. I live in Mexico so I don't really have access to most of the yarns you showed, but I'm always interested in knowing if the yarn can be worn in hot climate, like 30 Celsius or more, it is colder in the winter though. Alas I decided to be a knitter in a bad weather for it.
Like someone else in the comments, I'm from a developing country and would call this a large stash because its hard to find any yarn here. But by online yarn-community standards, I think its medium. And how lovely that you have plans for most of it. If you make this type of video again, Im curious about what needle material you'd recommend using for certain yarns.
I think it’s actually a pretty similar size to my stash! I’m actually pretty happy with my stash size, especially since it allows me to cast on something cool on a whim
I like your stash size. You have plenty of options but it's also not overwhelming? I think I have less than you but still feel like I have a lot to work with. I should really reorganize mine again so I know how much it REALLY is
In my opinion your stash would be on the small/medium. I have a very small stash. But I typically buy yarn for a specific project, work on that project until it's finished and then buy yarn for my next project. I enjoy seeing what yarns others have, and why they like them. Thanks for another great video!
I think this is a medium size stash based on others I’ve seen! It seems like you have plans for most of your yarns as well instead of just collecting yarn
It’s a smaller yarn stash in my opinion but everyone is different and as well all figure out values and philosophies on our fiber crafts, we can end up with surpluses of yarns we no longer wish to purchase more of but do not want to waist (like when you start shifting away from acrylic yarns from corporate chain stores). I have a similar sized stash of just acrylics that I’m slowly finding new uses for since I no longer wish to purchase 100% synthetics.
From my minimal experience of watching knitting RUclips for like a year, that’s a medium size stash. I’d say small stashes are like enough yarn for a handful of upcoming projects, medium it’d take a year or so to go through it all.
I would love to know how you get your yarn from Europe and the Europe-based creators you follow! I had the pleasure to visit Europe and buy some yarn from Germany and Brussels and I'm already itching to get my hands on other natural fibers!
I’d say your yarn stash is medium, I have about the same amount as you, and find it aaalmost perfectly managable😆 In regards to Sandes garn, I will say yarn made out of 100% norwegian sheep wool is almost always itchy and a bit irritating on bare skin, so I think this might be why a lot of nordic creators find Sandnes garn ‘soft’ because its often mixed with other yarn and feel way better than most norwegian yarn.☺️ However clothes made out of 100% norwegian wool yarn is so incredibly durable! I have a cardigan(spesifically a traditional norwegian ‘kofte’) that was made for my grandma around 1960 and I still wear it and it still looks amazing! The sweaters I have made recently with mixed wool however has started heavily pilling already😅
My perspective might be skewed, but I figure your stash is small/medium. Mine is probably 3-4 times that size and I consider it large-medium, but I think that's partially because I've seen some TRULY ENORMOUS stashes, thousands and thousands of skeins! Unfortunately I recently added to my stash AGAIN because I didn't have anything right for it. I have a lot of stuff that I have, like, just because I've had it for a really long time, even though it doesn't suit the things I want to make anymore. All the RHSS is handy for random amigurumi, I suppose.
To me this is a large stash and well organized. About the crochet garment project for the Knitting For Olive Merino, how do you feel about a poncho for autumn with tassels all around? The colours are very beautiful. 🤩
I haven’t worn a poncho since I was a little kid. I used to love mine but I haven’t even considered wearing one, it’s like I forgot they existed. Hmmmm, I think I need to consider ponchos in my life again 😊
I would say your stash is a medium size. I appreciate the reviews of the yarn you have worked with. I’d be interested in knowing what yarns that aren’t in your stash you would want to knit with and if you have any specific or broad plans for those yarns. I noticed you don’t really have any mohair in your stash, is it because mohair tends to be itchy or is it based on an ethical standpoint? Apologies if you’ve already addressed this before, I couldn’t remember. Great video 😊 Happy knitting and crafting!
Ouuu, I would love to share the yarns I want to work with! The lack of mohair is due to an allergy issue. It makes my face swell up a little and gives me a rash. ☹️
I'd think it's smedium. Somewhere between small and medium. There's enough for varied projects, but not necessarily enough for very large projects on a complete whim. I've been attempting to shrink my stash, both spinning fiber and yarn, and only being semi successful with it. It doesn't help that all the spin fiber turns into yarn and then has another step before it can truly be considered out of stash for me. 😅
To me this would be medium-large stash. I do also sew (and I sew professionally and for my self, both modern and historic clothing) so I have more than that in fabric too. If I didn't I know my perception would be different. It's all relative!
Medium stash I think 😅 I have a similar stash with different kind of yarn 😂 accumulated ober 2 years, what do you think about a scrap blanket? I am knitting the Sweet shop blanket 😊😊 liked the video and just love your esthetic and music❤ thanks
I enjoyed this video a lot while knitting :) Thank you! To me your stash seems big but not huge or enormous. I personally feel pressure from having yarn, especially when I don't know what I am gonna use it for. So I actually want to get my stash down to almost zero (currently I have around one of your big boxes). I also don't need the inspiration from what I have, I rather get it when I am knitting and then I already plan out projects for the future, and when the time comes, I know what yarn to get. Anyways, as long as I don't feel yarn stashes get to big to be knit up ever and thus implicitely harming the environment, I am not against other people having stashes, I really like to look at them :)
I got a lot of love for the small stash people of the world! My stash was always less than one big and I was surprised at how quickly it grew since starting this channel. 😳
to me, it looks like a large stash, but i only buy yarn for a project and then try to keep using it up with whatever i left over, so i rarely have more than one of those smaller bins (i also go to college half way across the country from home, so i move a lot and can't keep that much stuff in general)
I was touching some of the Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool in JoAnn a couple of days ago and it felt pretty scratchy to me. I don't know that you are "super picky" maybe more just a normal amount of picky in being careful of what you buy for clothing yarn. Found this entertaining as always - thanks for the work you put into this video! The Eddie Bauer yarn is exciting to me too lol but haven't bought yet. I think you have a medium stash!
I would say a medium size stash. I have way more than I should and have been downsizing mine recently. My nibblings have started crocheting so I have been sending most of my odds and ends, previous sale & impulse purchases to them to use.
pretty moderate stash. my yarn is in a round maybe 2 foot tall basket and a thinner one thats imminent project yarn once a current project ends and frees up hooks, needles, and just mental resources and i would say thats fairly small sized which is where i judge other stashes from. so its not extravagantly large but its not really a smaller amount.
I think your yarn stash size is just right. It is small enough to be manageable yet have some space for a little bit of growth. Yet, big and varied enough to be able to pull projects out of it on a whim. Beautiful stash.
I used to be a small stash person but I’m starting to like the medium life and it’s nice to get inspo from my stash 😊
@@BreathingYarnyarn does not go bad or expire so it’s just an investment in your future creativity! 😊
I find it so touching and lovely that the yarn your grandma gave you has been turned into a teaching tool to share your skills with other people ❤️
🥰
That intro was ✨perfect✨
OMG thank you!!! 😆
This would be a large stash to me. But I'm from a "developing country" so our notion of overconsumption is very different from people in the US.
I think your idea of bringing it down to the three big bins is great. I know I would personally feel lighter with a slightly smaller stash
The “buy, buy, buy” mentality in the USA is wild. I know I’m a part of it but it still drives me crazy what we’re conditioned to believe is normal.
Yes to everything you just said 🙌🏻
your use of budget yarn is what i really love about your channel. drops is the most accessible yarn for me (besides local rustic yarn that isn't suitable for all projects) so i love using your channel for drops reviews!
I was literally rewatching your ethics, morality, and yarn video while knitting when the notification for this one popped up, perfect timing!
Omg 😂
I really appreciate your take on all things yarn and the knitting community , it is very refreshing in these days of consumption and competitiveness.
aaaaaaaaand you officially made my day 😊 have a beautiful rainy Yorkshire day!
@@BreathingYarn yay!💕
I think this is a reasonable (medium) stash! It doesn't feel like you've bought most of it for no reason because you do have a plan for how to use it. It would be large for me because I try to only buy yarn when I'm immediately going to use it, but that's just me lol
I'm impressed you ”sacrificed" a ball of yarn to make the tea, that's dedication :)

Maybe she just tea-dyed it?
That looks like a perfectly medium-sized stash. It's larger than mine, but smaller than a lot of the other youtubers' stashes I see. This was a really interesting video, thanks for sharing!
Loved going in this journey with you. Nope I cannot think of anything I would ask or add. Loved it as it is !
Oh yes and thank you for sharing the information on the yarns that you do own, that's a big help for us out here who are not quite as adept as you are😊
What a stash, I really appreciate the yarn that you introduced me to, I have been using some very basic yarn in my first year of knitting.
Some gorgeous colors. I love that you are not afraid of colors. Also, I would love to buy you a colorwork pattern from your wish list, can you link your Ravelry? Thank you!
Oh and sorry, buy the yarn, life is too short and this art has to be about making yourself happy.... that is my hot take.
Life really is too short, its my next to buy!
I knew I recognized the Emma's Yarn!! My knitting club road trips every year to the Minnesota Yarn Shop Hop and we always stop by Harriet and Alice. Lots of love for H&A!
Aweee, that’s so sweet! 🧶🥰 I also adore that there are knitting club road trips in the world.
I wish my stash were that size. Perfectly manageable. I have been knitting for over 40 years..mine is massive and I am on a strict no-buy mission to knit some of it up.
Good luck!!!
Exactly my feelings (and situation)! 😊
This video introduced me to your channel and I'm absolutely off to watch more of your videos!
I think you have a perfect small-medium size stash, and it looks like it serves you well for what you create 😊
Oh thank you! 😊
I’m college I had maybe three balls of yarn at a time 😂 college me would freak out if she saw this video
Thank you 🥰🥰🥰
This was one of my favorite stash tour/stash organizing videos.
I’ve been loving truboo! I made a hat by holding it double but would love to do a larger project with it
I would totally watch another video like this to see how your stash fluctuates.
Thank you 😊
I've never thought about how tshirt/tube yarn would be good for teaching because of stitch definition! thats genius! and the sentimental value only adds to it!
I would definitely like to see how your stash changes, stash videos are a fun way to see what's out there and hear the pros and cons while also learning more about personal taste. It's interesting how much diversity can be found grouped under the single category of "yarn" even if not all of it is my cup of tea!
i was wondering what you had in your stash, love tours like this so i’m glad you made this video!
Aweee 🥰 thanks. I also like seeing other people’s yarn collections. It’s like getting to go through someone else’s stuff (which I love doing).
@@BreathingYarn haha yes exactly! love organizing when it’s not my own things
I think adding a shelf with the grey yarn and your pink tshirt yarn with a framed artwork from your grandma would be soooo beautiful!
Such a creative intro 🫶🏻 lovely video as always
Thank you so much!!
the framed pieces in the background are mesmerizing
The photos? Those are pics of my husband and I on the Oregon coast :) there’s some beautiful cliffs and rock formations on the coast.
I used differing colors of Fisherman's Wool for a blanket for my husband. it turned out really well, and worked out to be cheap, too, thanks to coupons and sales.
Recently found your channel and I'm a fan. You're making me want to start a channel myself.
It’s definitely a very unique experience 😊
I thought the same about the fisherman's wool, but when I made a sample swatch and washed it, it was so much softer than I could have imagined. I was going to make a blanket with mine but I ended up making a vest and it is so nice and soft. I am really sensitive around the neck also. If you have a question about how a yarn will be at your most sensitive areas, make a small swatch, wash it and then wear it next to your skin for awhile to see how it feels.
That’s good to know, maybe I was too quick to judge. 🧶
Looks liks a nice medium stash. It's enough for younto " shop" in your own stash for a variety of projects, jet it can be knit up within a year .
I adore all of those cardigan patterns 🥰
I loved the intro !!!!! worth the hitting the like button just for that :))))
Thank you 😆 I had too much fun with it
3 things
1. Love this video! So cozy to organize yarn with you
2. For the peer gynt you wanted to knit socks with, be aware that socks in that kind of yarn will get holes very easily! It has no nylon and therefore wears down in no time when used as roughly as socks get used. (if you want to make socks without plastic I would recommend using a pretty tightly spun yarn)
3. Try checking out “Laerke Bagger” She does a lot of knitting with scraps and is pretty cool (in my opinion) maybe you could get some inspiration for you “junk draw” yarn❤
I love Lærke Baggers patterns/book!
Though I'm going to Flock next month so we'll see how things look after that 😂
Ouuu, I love small stash people! Have fun at flock!!!!
@@BreathingYarn Ty!!
That’s good to know!
I've been wanting to try Drops Belle. Great organization! 👏🏾🧶
Thanks!
Your stash is just right, I'm envious that you kept it so manageable. Mine is huge because I tuck it away out of sight and forget I have it. Thanks for the inspiration as I'm going to de-stash and buy only what I need for a certain project. Happy Knitting!
Happy knitting to you too! I worry if I had more space, my stash would grow rapidly 😆 it’s the size limitations that keep me in check.
Aweeeeer 🥰 thank you!
I have used Hersheners yarn for years for everything from rug hooking to lace shawls.
your hair is so cute!
Great stash size! Mine takes up most of a spare bedroom and it’s completely unmanageable.
If next time you could include info/ your observation about if a finished garment grew a lot when blocking I’d be super interested to know. Thanks!
Totally! That’s a really good idea.
Great idea!!
That’s awesome! (And also thank you) 😊
I use small bits of left-over yarn, cut off yarn tails, etc. as a filling for amigurumi, or any other project that needs a polyfill equivalent
That’s amazing! I’m so glad to see someone be confident in their stash side and know what they like 👏🏻☺️
I dont like having a stash of yarn beyond what I have plans for, I worry that I'd never use it otherwise.
That’s a great yarn combo!
looks about the same size as my stash and i've only been at it for a few years. so i guess that means i think it's medium?? i was thinking your stash looked too nice to be real until you brought out the last box LOL, thank you for sharing!
Do all knitters have a “junk drawer”? 😆
to my standards thats a big stash! not as big as it could get from what i have seen in yt channels but i only usually by yarn for a project when im finished with my last so it would fit everything into one of your bins very easily
I think your stash is small-ish to medium in size. Quite a nice collection!
Yarn endorphins 🤣
FRAME THE YARN 🤩
I think it’s a reasonable stash. It’s small by comparison to my own but larger than others I have seen.
I organize my yarn by type/brand and is it fancy. Ive got multiple small bins: aldi cotton, aldi felting fool, acrylic, sockyarn, scraps, others and fancy (and then there is the overflow drawer. It holds mostly non-fancy/others yarn, abandoned wips, and some vintage crochet-cotton my mom gave me)
So organized!
I’m going to make a big felted knit bag with my fisherman’s wool! I ordered mine online and when I felt it I knew immediately that it was going to be too scratchy for any clothing item!
That’s a great use! I’ve been wanting to try felted knitting!
Compared to mine, it’s tiny. Goid for you for keeping it small!
Id say small to medium. But also the stash size seems to suit you so in a sense it’s the perfect size
Best intro ever!! Hahaha
First of all, a big stash is when you fell overwhelmed with your yarn, a small stash is when you always run out of yarn and medium stash is whenever you feel comfortable. There is no one fast rule "this many grams/skeins/metres are too many/too little"
I think my own stash is comparable in size to yours, though made of very different yarns. Since 2019 I've been slowly and consistently changing the makeup of my stash - as a baby crocheter I obviously didn't know what I would like later on - but, surprisingly, the overall amount of yarn stays fairly constant
My question for you would be - what kinds of yarn would you like to eliminate from your stash and which ones would you like to make your staples? You speak as if you really enjoy almost all of them, but are there any plans for the future?
Love your definition of stash size! I honestly like almost all of my yarns and have been lucky to avoid any “bad” yarn 🧶
I really like them 🥰
Loved this video... if you do another one in the future, I'd love to have more comments about how the yarns wear. That's super helpful.
Ouuu, YES! That’s a must. Thanks for the recommendation 😊
I’d call that a medium stash. I have no idea how big mine is because it’s squirreled away all over the house. I guess that says it’s more than I can manage. Or more than I care to admit! ~Brenda
It sounds like the perfect amount Brenda!
I love that summer knits have been getting more popular and I’m really hoping that trend continues so we can all enjoy our adorable knits on hot days!
Ouuu, that’s a good question
I think it’s actually a pretty similar size to my stash! I’m actually pretty happy with my stash size, especially since it allows me to cast on something cool on a whim
KFO merino colors are gorgeous. Maybe if you held them double you could make the seaglass sweater or tshirt.
The seaglass sweater is STUNNING! ⭐️
Yes, nobody talks about that. Switching to yarn that’s more your vibe but also trying not to waste the yarn you already have. So relatable!
Throw it away. You dont need th at.kind of misery in your life. Life is precious . Today could be your last knitting day. Use your favourite yarn .
I feel like your yarn stash is super under stocked. Guess you'll have to go buy more now. Next video: yarn shopping trip, yay! 🎉 😂
A novel idea!! 💡
Your cat and my cats should hang out haha
From my minimal experience of watching knitting RUclips for like a year, that’s a medium size stash. I’d say small stashes are like enough yarn for a handful of upcoming projects, medium it’d take a year or so to go through it all.
I have a similar perspective. I think my stash is a little bigger than I’d like since storage in my apartment is pretty minimal 😂
Definitely give the Eddie Bauer Wool-Paca a try! I made an October sweater out of it and it is so nice and drapey!
Yessssssss, I feel officially influenced 🧶
I would love to know how you get your yarn from Europe and the Europe-based creators you follow! I had the pleasure to visit Europe and buy some yarn from Germany and Brussels and I'm already itching to get my hands on other natural fibers!
For the Drops brand, you can go to their website and they list suppliers in your area. That’s how I get my drops yarn 😄
I’d say your yarn stash is medium, I have about the same amount as you, and find it aaalmost perfectly managable😆 In regards to Sandes garn, I will say yarn made out of 100% norwegian sheep wool is almost always itchy and a bit irritating on bare skin, so I think this might be why a lot of nordic creators find Sandnes garn ‘soft’ because its often mixed with other yarn and feel way better than most norwegian yarn.☺️
However clothes made out of 100% norwegian wool yarn is so incredibly durable! I have a cardigan(spesifically a traditional norwegian ‘kofte’) that was made for my grandma around 1960 and I still wear it and it still looks amazing! The sweaters I have made recently with mixed wool however has started heavily pilling already😅
Wow! That’s an important note on how well Norwegian wool holds up!!
I would say medium sized stash! I get how it is hard to gauge though, my stash is similar in size!
@@BreathingYarn I have one in autumnal colours and throw it over as soon as it gets colder. I love it. 😊
I'd say it's a small or medium stash. However, I usually see humungous stashes on here, so it may be swaying my opinion.
Ouuu, happy spinning!
I love the sweet shop blanket! It’s definitely on my knitting bucket list
you know those little clip-like snappy barrettes? I use those to keep the ends on the yarn ball so they don't tangle
That’s a great idea!
@@BreathingYarn not my own-saw someone do it. Then I 🤦♀️ now I also weight them and stick a paper scrap with the wt under the barrette
to me, it looks like a large stash, but i only buy yarn for a project and then try to keep using it up with whatever i left over, so i rarely have more than one of those smaller bins (i also go to college half way across the country from home, so i move a lot and can't keep that much stuff in general)
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who found it scratchy!
