- Hopping on to the ferry at Oban, I set sail for the Hebridean island of Coll. Armed with my Luxe Hexpeak, enough food for three days and a desire for new horizons, I was rewarded with great beauty, wonderful friendly locals, jaw dropping beaches and the most magnificent Aurora ever.. well... for me anyway..
I truly hope you enjoy watching this as much as I did doing it.. If so, let me know with a thumbs up..
Thank you - Jim

I visited Coll on the 4th January this year and Coll and Mull in August this year. The weather in January was clear, rugged and cold. I got wet taking pictues but had an ebike to get around.
In Augist I saw the northern lights on Coll when I watching the Perseid meteor shower. It was very strange. You really need weeks to see these islands and it looks so different in winter compared to summer.
It's been a while since l last visited and will probably set out again this autumn if there is the chance of a little high pressure... No place to be when the winds hit.... Thank you 👍👍👍
The Stars in January on Coll were awsome, they were very bright and the water flat calm, it was so dark I saw faint starlight on the water. This August the stars were not as bright but the aurora was grey green and very strange. Kip is the person who does tours, there are a lot of Glaswegians on Coll, ive met them.
Thank you very much for your lovely message 😊☺️☺️
What a stunning place, I love the Hebrides so much, absolute millionaires walking, my number 1 consideration when I go anywhere now is will anybody be there.
There is such a temptation to wonder if I could handle living on an Island like that.
Thank you for sharing your adventure, don’t drink the gin all at once 😉😊👍👏👏👏
Thanks pal. It's quite a commitment to live (and contribute) to island life - not for everyone.. I think there has to be collaboration for it to work. But then how much collaboration is too much? They are so beautiful though... So many more to visit. 😎
Another great video mate. Looks a fantastic place and you found some cracking pitches. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
All the best, Carl
Cheers Carl. I love the islands and everyone is so welcoming.. friendly, warm places .. lovely. Hope you're well. Cheers Carl. 😎
enjoyed it 😀
Glad you enjoyed - Lovely place. 😉😎
Thinking of visiting Tiree and Coll. This video just showed how stunning Coll is and I'll def be visiting now. You were so lucky with the weather. I bet it can get pretty wild in those parts at times. Cheers.
Brilliant stuff... Fantastic islands . 🏝️
Ive been in the winter and in summer, I got more wet in August than January 2024
Very very enjoyable Jim with good drone footage to boot. Peaceful indeed. Very informative. 🏴
Made me think
Good afternoon Mr Frank how are you Sir? Thank you for your generous comments... You are the drone king. 💪👏👏
@@BoredManOutdoors weather here is still awful. I'm trying to remain fit though ~ walking back and forwards the the kettle can be taxing somewhat 🤔
@@jamesss1953 Very cold but clear down here Frank. Poor weather forecast this coming week.. but I've enjoyed the dry spell.. soon be midge infested summer time 😎
@@BoredManOutdoors you don't have to remind me of the wee blighters ..... tried a walk the other day up past Ullapool again only to find 1 mile along the track I couldn't go any further as "PRIVATE" . Quite disappointed. And yep snow etc forecast mid week. Next appropriate day I've another walk planned in Ullapool area, so here's hoping ....
Is there such a thing as private? Other than military? ...anyhoo.. our patience will be rewarded ... Keep those batteries charged. 🥃😎
Hi Jim, you've added another place on to my 'places to camp' list. You got a great Northern Lights show as well, you lucky fella 😁 All the best Jase
Thanks Jase. How's you pal? I love visiting the islands and cannot get enough of them... Not for everyone but definitely for me.. 😎
Really enjoyed that wee wander ,and gave now added Coll of my place's to go this year .. I'm just back from mallaig ( morar beach camp ) and a quick recce at camusdarach beach ,both beautiful place's and coll looks pretty similar in that aspect .. thanks Jim 👍
Aye, it's lovely up that part of the coast.. I have a few plans to revisit Mallaig to hop on the ferry. That last beach I stayed on whilst on Coll reminded me of Arisaig.. Thanks for watching.. cheers - Jim 😎
Great clip heading up there 2nd week in June
Thank you.. such a peaceful island 🏝️👍😎
Cracking. Enjoyed watching jim. Somewhere I haven’t visited. Gordon
If you like peace, quiet, good beaches and occasionally good weather... Coll is the place.. 👍
@@BoredManOutdoors we enjoyed islay as I know you did so I reckon Coll would be good. Might take the bike
I have to say I know a few folk on Islands and the real stuff about what neighbours have squabbles and who keeps the peace etc. Even with a couple of hundred folk, if you are lucky, they still have squabbles.
I guess it's what makes these places tick.. The islands must have their own unique pressures... 🤔
nice few days away Jim, Nice to see somewhere different too. Shame about your camera. ATB George
Lovely place to visit George.. hope you're well pal. 😎
Coll is wonderful. I went to both Coll and Tiree roughly five years ago. Best holiday I've ever had.
Coll, Colonsay are both beautiful Jeanette. I have yet to visit Tiree but it's only a matter of time - I think the islands are wonderful.. I'm not surprised you had a great holiday. 🌞😎
Three cars stopped to offer a lift. A kind gesture. Nothing like smiling as you say yeh I do this for my own satisfaction! Take care and thx for posting. I needed a mood lift.
Two of them accepted the answer and still wanted to chat... Really nice people and it seems a world away from world troubles 😎
That’s an unspoiled paradise that.
Looked like a fantastic trip.
Shame about your Durston, I ordered the X-Mid 2P Pro in February so I hope that doesn’t happen to me.
Slàinte mhath. 🥃
Cheers Dougie.. They do look exciting tents.. Mine is still missing 🤷... The islands are so lovely - I can't recommend them enough.. cheers Pal.. and good luck with your tent. 😎
@@BoredManOutdoors Still missing? Aw man, I’m gutted for you. At least you have a backup but it’s disappointing.
The islands are stunning. I must go this summer.
P.s. what a spot!!
Mum and Dad took us kids on summer holidays camps to the west coast of Scotland over a few years in the 80's.. Arisaig.. etc, in the afternoons we all went paddling in the shallows and with every step us kids had tiny flounders or plaice flat fish really tickling our feet! Grt job bmo.👍
They're lovely memories aren't they... It is so much easier these days with smart phones and sports cameras to capture images and memories - it's why I do it really.. love looking back on them and made even better that others like them too... 😎
the view😊
Oh yes.... Just beautiful 😍
Hi Jim, what a stunningly beautiful place Coll looks. I can honestly say I’d never heard of it until now. Those beaches looked fantastic. I bet the weather can also be brutal there at times. Thank you so much for sharing this trip with us. 😀🥾⛰🏴
Oh aye Dave.. talking to the guide chap, he said it's been a tough winter for them. Not just rain but sideways rain .. Lovely island and everyone so friendly... Definitely be back some day with Mrs B. 😎
Thanks for taking us round here Jim, always wanted to know what the island looked like. That second camp and beach was sublime , yet another for the tick list. Cheers 🍻
Thanks Andrew.. twas a grand couple of days.. How's that new tent of yours going - not too heavy to climb with? I'm hopeful of a high camp tomorrow night, local to me and one I've never done.. 🤔⛺😎
Nice quiet time of year to go camping on Coll! How often does the ferry arrive at Coll?
Hi. I think it's most days but only once per day with a short return from Tiree.. so it's an overnighter in all cases. I'd have to check though, may change in summer. 😎
Excellent video, thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you Sean. 😎👍
How beautiful is that island and your blue skies Mims, I didn't see your night sky very well but it all looked good and pretty flat too xx
Gently undulating I think it's termed... Aren't they lovely places and on!y and the boat only 90 minute away.. Head away with the weight of the world (and work) on your shoulders, return ready to fight on.. 🥰
Another great wee adventure Jim, keep them coming. Good luck.
Cheers Charlie - Hope you're doing well.. Thanks pal. 😎
Fantastic Jim, brought back memories of when my wife and I spent 2x days cycling on coll, albeit it was warm & sunny. Hope you are keeping well.
Derek (Tighnabruaich)
Hi Derek, great to hear from you - Hope you're doing well... I almost took the bike but needed the exercise so clogged it.. Colonsay and Coll are so similar however Coll has the edge.. Thanks for viewing and commenting pal. Cheers Derek - Jim 😎
Stunning place Jim. Like some others id not heard of Coll before. Thanks for sharing it with us.
ron
Thanks Ron... I can't get enough of the islands... So beautiful.. So peaceful.. cheers Ron. Jim
A fine wee paradise expedition Jim. Some weather and it's a cracking island 😎. Need to do more of them. No the best aboot the tent. Hope it turns up. Some stunning drone footage there. Cheeky wee aurora anaw eh. 👌
Cheers Kev.. I can't get enough of the islands.. The ferry makes it an adventure as well... Watched your Paps video again tuther night.. Got them on my radar as well. Hope you're well pal. 👊👊👊👊👊
Hi there, watch a few of your posts on islands and would like to pick your brains a bit. I have done most of the larger isles on west coast , but would now like to do something different. On the islands of Tiree, Muck, Coll etc etc, would it be possible for me to leave my van and take my cycle onto these isles. Of course the planning depends a lot on the timetables from Calmac as I understand they are not connected every day ….what do you think.
Thanks
Drew
Of all the islands I've seen so far, most are very accessible by a mountain bike ( with a little pushing).. Tiree is made for cycling if it's not too windy. I leave my car in Oban (Tesco) for a small fee and then head off. I almost always book me and the bike in advance.. 🚴♀️🚴♂️🚴♂️🚴♂️🚴♀️🚴😎
@@BoredManOutdoors thanks for info
*_Very beautiful natural panorama, very wide savanna, once again I like you sir, are you still doing activities in the wild huh..._*
Thank you GAPT.. very kind of you to view and leave a comment. 😎
Great video Jim. Some great footage. Brilliant footage. It looks a lovely part of the World. Drone footage fab. See we do get nice clear blue skies in Scotland , not all cloud , wind and rain lol. All the best Andy
It's been nice last few days up here hasn't it Andy.. A blue sky always looks better above long white sandy beaches.. 😊😎
Great camping trip Jim. You got a good view of the aurora! Drone footage was nice too. I missed the aurora by a couple days due to work. Did a camp out in loch Dochard inspired by your trip. What a great location it is. I look forward to your next adventure sir. ATB
Ahhh... Good stuff Scott.. it's lovely up there.. did you have the weather with you? It is quite spectacular... I'll definitely return, I have a short multi-day loop planned up through Glen Etive and through Glencoe ... Thanks Scott. Jim 😎
Yeah it was a super day weather wise. Temperature dropped during the night but I brought my Rab ascent 1100 bag so it was no issue.
I'd like to get into the walking wild camping. Any kit you recommend or I should avoid. I'm no chef so I'd be looking at boing in the bag stuff or MRE army type stuff to keep me going
Hi John..
The best possible advice I could offer is prioritise comfort first. Whether clothing, footwear, tent space, weight and sleep system.. lightweight can be comfortable but is very expensive. Cheap can be and usually is heavy and doesn't last long.. do your research and purchase to be able to meet the needs of your planned adventures.. Good comfortable boots for distance. Good comfortable sleep system before tent. 🤜🤛.. Good luck.
Did you find the Devil's Chair?
I did, but it wasn't where I expected it. It was closer to the village on the way back to the ferry... 😎
Did you get a picture and were you at "Grishipoll" where you first pitched your tent?
@brianjohnson8942 I didn't Brian. I think the first night was Hogh Bay... I'm looking forward to returning.. 😎
Looked like a wonderful holiday camping hiking trip 👍.who wears long shorts 😂,the aurora looked amazing loved the board coo’s,drone footage and the bloke fi Halifax’s turf houses.👍
I have little legs... They be normal shorts on someone with normal legs... Glad you enjoyed the adventure John. 😎
