The best years of my life! The rave scene, ecstasy, dancing all night with no worries. Getting in touch with my inner psyche... Took me to places I can’t even describe!! The Beethoven of techno. Techno music will never get better than this. Ever. My church. Takes me to another state of consciousness.. Yes, even after all these years. Thank you Keoki. 👽💫
@@gregorywelch4620 yes but much more serious and this is a nyc mix. which makes it special. esp since all the drama around that time in nyc and the club kids. keoki made it out. and killed it with this cd.
That album is iconic and represents, for me, an era of love and innocence that began my journey into the rave scene. It connects me to a time of enlightenment and self discovery that bonded me to people that are STILL my closest friend to this day. I had the opportunity to hear Keoki a few times at Simon's. great vibes!!! thanks, keoki.
simons was the bomb! I went to my first big rave there in (96-97?) the soul house & Florida state theatre were involved.I believe the rave was called inushuaya. It was around 96-97. Green velvet Josh winx dub tribe spacemen/trip theory we're playing that night. I wish I had the flyer still. Oh yeah I do I tattooed it on my left calf lol! Great times! Thanks for the jumpstart of memories!
It was an amazing adventure wasn't it? I was an angry, depressed, bitter young man before I was turned on to the scene. I became an empathetic, caring, enlightened, positive person who loved life and those around me. Over the years since then, much of what changed in me has been lost or forgotten since me and my friends went our separate ways, and I myself took up careers in the cold and monolithic world of corporate enterprise. I guess you can say I am back on this journey again, seeking refuge and self-enlightenment through the music. I want to be that person again and I can already feel the changes. Peace and love be with you my friend.
I was literally just listening to this on tape tonight. I found this cassette some months ago and I just bought an older car with a cassette player in it. So happy I get to enjoy this timeless techno classic by one of the all time greats Dj Keoki. Moonshine Records forever!
This mix immediately puts me on an acid trip. I know this album WAY too well in that regard. His best mix for me. So many sets back in those years in Dallas
God damn! This popped in my head and I had to search for it and have a listen.... this just made for a wild gaming session.... this along with the flood of emotions from all the memories from this time period. Oh man oh man... this and The Stress Collection (Digweed/Sasha) on moonshine were the two CD’s that never left my CS player for so long. Oh and I forgot... to see Keoki live (back when he really worked it hard) was such a treat!
Never understood it. As much as I have been influenced by Frankie Bones, Richie Hawtin, Mr. C, Billy Nasty, BT, Timo Maas, Max Graham, Sasha, Van Dyk, Tiesto, Miss Kitten and quite a few more, Keoki will probably always be my favorite. Used to see him at Limelight quite often and have been listening to him since 94.
I have it on cassette. From 94 off of Moonshine. I also have a CD of a mix he did in 96. Both are great. Billy Nasty is a legend. Never saw him live though.
Thank you, thank you. This was my soundtrack for my San Francisco trip that summer in 1994. Took a one-way Greyhound to rave in the Bay Area. Ended up staying with cool people and meeting Derrick Carter at a New Moon Party at Goat Beach. Incredible summer!!
I know we are all supposed to be looking forward but after 4 weeks of lock down, can someone PLEASE get me back to the 90's? Thanks for posting this. Man parties used to be such a blast. And $5!
Dude, I was 17 going on 18. These two sets were my favorite in the early days. Sacred Cycles was on both and both Mr. C and Keoki were on point. By the next year and two, All Mixed Up and Plastikman's mix released from MixMag were two of the best of the 90's. Still love the current music but this stuff brings me back to some very memorable times. Was fortunate enough to see Keoki at Limelight on a weekly basis for about a year back then.
This is a product of his DJ upbringing in NYC. He was never a good beatmatcher as he will tell you this himself. What he excelled at was his track selection and crowd reading. He stated in an interview that he went from Frank Sinatra to Run-DMC in one mix. Him playing the Pink Panther theme is right up his alley!
I still have my autographed copy of this CD; he was at a party in Akron. (back then, we *never* said ‘rave’ - helped keep out the “normals”). 26 years later and ‘The Spirit’ is still one of my all time favorites (but nooo way am I staying out until 4am, haha!)
just last year I "operated" on an old cassette tape of this mix. Then, once it was "healed", my pal and I re-mastered it as well as we could with great detail. It still sounded weak, but just to hear it was magic. To hear it clearly here is fantastic. Thank you for posting... (btw, I always thought it was live in Vancouver.. can anyone confirm?)
I hated Sacred Cycles when it came out, it was just so cold which pretty much summed up Melbourne in 1994 but 20+ years later I find myself dropping at parties again, pretty good mix with Shi Take another GEM!!!
Another masterclass trance mix by Keoki. Check out "DJ Keoki All Mixed Up" if you haven't already. IMO it's even better than this mix, if that's even possible!! Thanks for the upload, pal 😁👍🏼👟👟
best techno dj? scott henry can/could mix circles around keoki, while playing actual techno. and did it years before this ever came out. keokis track selection was always wack and good luck on seeing him give a good live set...and since he just got busted 2 weeks ago with a fuckload of drugs, its safe to say he never got out of that lifestyle.
lol an imitation UK label account, name dropping a guy out of D.C. who are you ripping off with your uploads? oh wait it doesnt matter anymore, nothing is real. this mix is timeless, maybe you need some better drugs.
Wrong. He has successfully been touring last 4 years and has not missed one damn show. He is in Dayton this Saturday for Venus Rising then FL Pig Dance, Houston Numbers, Dallas and so on . . .

I did get to see him once, he played a fun inventive set while drunk as a skunk. He even played the Pink Panther theme at one point.
