    Wonderful! And yes, more Ovid, please. I do love the Metamorphoses, but I'm also a huge fan of his Amores, which are so incredibly delightful, and somehow incredibly poignant even when lighthearted. Cheers!

    Another awesome video...thanks!
    I heard Ovid's exile was revoked in 2017 by the council of Rome. Very nice.
    What a joy he is!

      @MoAnInc Wow that's so great. Something interesting going on there... I'd love to see a dive into his letters from the Black Sea. He must have left some hidden clues there to something or other

    Oh super happy about an Ovid Odyssey. I read the Metamorphosis once but will be very happily rereading it. Although it is about.. Metamorphosis..I think it is also about silencing. So many of the stories have elements of tongues being made incapable of speech or other silencing. Anyway, I just find that interesting

    I am in a Dungeons and Dragons game set in Ancient Rome and my character is literally just Ovid during his exile. I agree that his life is incredibly interesting, mostly for the mystery of his exile. I've been characterizing him as a mix between ancient Andrew Tate and Bob Dylan lol.

    What did Ovid do?

  • @GilTheDragon
    @GilTheDragon 26 дней назад

    My pet theory is that it is a destroyed text, that ovid had caused something which killing ovid would only cause to be copied more, so probably something accusing mr big 8s of kingness

    • @GilTheDragon
      @GilTheDragon 26 дней назад

      Like the exile so far is essentially a death sentence; and then what qualms would Octavian have to not just kill him.
      Also my reading of ovid was ars am, meta, & then fastii
      Kinda hated metamorphoses

  • @hippomancy
    @hippomancy 25 дней назад

    nobody wrote it down... so essentially if it peeved off the emperor so badly, why would you want to mention it again?

    Great video and Ovid is a favourite. And Ars Amatoria (+ sequels) is the best. But please loose the modern politically correct (or whatever) apologetics. Especially for a classicist it is inappropriate to be so time bound, in no time it will be as a laughable as Victorian Bowdlerizing.
    The only line I ever remember though is from the Tristia "nix iacet, et iacet ne sol pluviaeque resolvant" and I can just imagine the poor Italian living in a place where the snow falls and nothing ever melts it again all winter long!
