love this, sick fuzz tones. just saw julie live last week and they really do just play as a three piece. they all play extremely tight to each other, bass guitars and drum. you got really close with their drum and guitar tone, would love to hear u try and get closer with the vocal processing. some songs the male vocalist/guitarist has a very compressed and crisp vocal. i imagined it's sung really quiet like you did in the video but processed to come off as louder and more present.
Thank you! That’s awesome!! Yeah it was definitely a challenge trying to replicate their sound. I have no idea what gear they use and what their post process is but I got as close as I I could. Thank you for the feedback! I’ll for sure explore their vocal processing for future Julie videos.
Never heard of the shoegaze band Julie. This made me think of the shoegaze band The Julie Dolphin from back in the day. Glad to see your channel growing.
Thank you!!! I played out of my Hot Rod Deluxe with the Eye See 78’ fuzz. However, I did add a little saturation in post for more texture but not too much.
hi Will I’m wondering that in video 1:53-2:04, where you strum that fuzzy guitar, how you got that clear, balanced stereo distortion sound without running into a tonal problem. I’ve always had trouble with my guitar’s mono-to-stereo mixing, like I’ve tried adding reverbs, using a stereo maker plugin, and making two tracks with the same audio, but none of these have worked as well as yours. I hope to learn some useful mixing tricks. Ty
I’d say a generational thing. Some people have different perspectives of what Shoegaze is. But it’s all experimental and is evolving. Especially with the new generation. I think it’s a good thing.
Is there a way to achieve the same type of vocal processing with 1 vocal layer, meaning like if it's performed live and you can route it through ableton, where you could use like a doubler and the harmonizer and such. What I've been trying always turns out inorganic and weird sounding. Also Whirr vocals, the whispery ones from Feels like you, how to sing it and process to make it so soothing but in your face at the same time. Do you ever sidechain vocals to guitars?
That’s a great question. Yes there is a way to achieve that sort of vocal processing for live performances. I know Ableton has a double effect. And I never thought of side-chaining the vocals with guitars. I’m not sure how that’d sound. Guess I’ll have to try and see!
Again asking for a trauma ray song something like Halley or chameleon. Also the fuzz a lot of these bands use is the earthquaker hizimitus which is an amazing pedal I bought one and I love it
@ ah I thought you were referring to the guitars that you cut to directly afterwards. Definitely making a note that bass into guitar amp can get massive
What Shoegaze/Post Rock band should I try to write a song like next?
HUM
My dead girlfriend, or some band that gives a good Japanese shoegaze vibe.
"mass of fermenting dregs - dramatic" is also very nice

Maybe it’s more a generational thing, but this sounds more like an Eric’s Trip song than anything else to me

Hey ! Are you straight to an audio interface or through a real amp ?
He uses a fender hot rod deluxe amp mentioned somewhere around 4:40 I believe. Hope this helps
I hear a lot of Autolux in Julie
Yes!! Like the sound of them aswell
Could you do some Deftones songs from "Ohms"?
Dude that bass is so growly it makes me shit my pants. Is that just eye see 78 into your ampeg? Or do you run DI and amp/fuzz in parallel?
Haha thanks, man! It’s the Eye See 78’ into my Hot Rod Deluxe amp
@ ah I thought you were referring to the guitars that you cut to directly afterwards. Definitely making a note that bass into guitar amp can get massive

bro this was super helpful, howd you do those "sonic youth chords" on the less fuzzy guitar? was it just adding in some sus2s?
I think just octaves
@ thank you !
Tune to E standard or other ?
C#
@@bananalabs is that drop c# or just c# standard?
You should try and make a Leaving Time inspired song
I’ll consider. Thanks for the suggestion.
Leaving Time rips 🔥
i just saw them live yesterday I had to go check out their pedal boards hahah
