First since 1949: Mass Coastal meet on restored railroad siding in Berkley, MA - 4/2021

- Back in April 2021 Mass Coastal was operating the cable conduit train along the New Bedford Secondary installing conduits for signals. Meanwhile Mass Coastal MC-4 was coming up from Fall River towards the New Bedford Secondary at Myricks. Instead of meeting at Myricks MC's cable train ducked into the newly built (2019) siding north of Padelford St. in Berkley, MA. This siding is built on the right of way of the long removed second mainline to New Bedford, MA. The second track here was removed in 1949 and this is the first time track has been in it's place since. This siding and a number of others are being installed along the South Coast Lines where either spurs or sidings were back in the day. This meet was the first time two trains have met here going in separate directions since 1949. Previously the only other "meet" between two trains was last December when MC-4 met the Welded Rail train to swap power but that was under different circumstances.

happy birthday, America................ and thanks for posting the meet.
Great to see them not just going through ripping it up!
Happy July 4th great to see.the line back in use
As I live in Middleboro and work in Somerset, I pass this way every day. Those crossings were on rte 79
Good looking locomotives thanks for posting. Great video.
Love the sound of a 567 EMD
Happy 4th of July 🧨🇺🇲
Looks like double track installation has been contemplated.
Great video and something different for me.
Cool catch.
Nice!
Keep up the good work I'd like when I see I will put it on talk radio WBS M yes I will
I can hear it now(white box truck)
Boss: hey you're 20 minutes late
Driver; I got stuck by a train
Boss: You think I'm stupid, trains don't go down those tracks
Driver: really boss there was a train
Worse yet is some car flying through thinking the flashing lights are signal malfuntion
Train historians any information on Keith Railcar Manufacturing Sandwich,Mass 1900 thru 1935-1945.How old is train trussel bridge on Canal?
Was anyone else thinking that if they don’t see that great big locomotive sitting on the crossing they are never going to see that little flare.
Safety rules.
@@gravelydon7072 Yes I am aware of that thanks. They used to have a spike in the bottom of them so you could at least stand them up. Now they are just going through the motions.
On the railroad they are called “ fusees” and should be placed to the side and not in the middle of the road, two is required for protecting the crossing….
Someone likes the horn lol Great video
they have to sound the horn while workers present per FRA rules!
@@GRE2057 that should be the bells job
@@-watermelonking That has to ring while moving thru the whole areas where workers are present.
@@GRE2057 I realize that just seems over done on the crossing.
Valuable for their fiber rights of way, as well as rail commerce.
What has prompted the redevelopment of the line? New business or just a redirecting of rail traffic?
south coast rail
Happy 4th! Re-rail America!
Will it be double tracked between Cotley Jct & Myricks Jct? Seems like that would be logical (but logic is not one of our State's Transportation System strong points)
what are they doing all the renovation work for?
Nice looking old geep. A 9 maybe?
What made those long, narrow marks on the ends of the tank cars, directly above the wheels?
Kick up of dirt from the wheels
@@SouthCoastRailVideos It is the same result the cyclists get riding on wet pavement. Wear of brake shoes against the wheel creates a mix of rain and shoe composite.
Sheeple don’t know red lights mean stop.
It's become an ever increasing occurrence with traffic lights too... In the suburban area I live in, a red light is more of a "suggestion" now than a rule. You pretty much nearly always have to look both ways before moving across an intersection on a newly turned green light. Too regularly I see some jerkoff blowing through a red light well after the opposing route turns green.
@@WHJeffB Yep, if I had pulled out the other day when the light turned green i would have been t-boned by a van towing a trailer with a mower on it. But something told me not to pull out and the vehicle ran the red light.
@@gravelydon7072 Recently got back from picking up my son from work and while waiting at the red, which then turned green, three cars ran the red in fast succession. Not yellow trending to red, solid red. Effed up...
love reaction only
Are you kidding me both those cars drove through the railway warning lights and bells
:)
Graffiti....ye gawds,
Do you remember an age when free cars didn't have graffiti all over them and when graffiti was it considered an art form
@ 1:00...weed heads!! Lol
Thanks for watching
New Englanders may be realizing that trucks only is a big fail.
What is the use of fusees in the daytime?
It’s 4th of July everyday.
That is the proper and recommended way a train should go thru a non functioning crossing.
Flagman not present on that side so fusee required. Passing a lit fusee is equal to running a stop sign. Damage the train and you will pay for the repairs, or your insurance will.
In my time use of night signals (fusees) was required in the day during periods of reduced visibility such as rain and fog etc.
Doesn't anyone stop at bloody railway crossings in the USA?????????
Why the Masks?
Still wearing those masks in communist Massachusetts
You don't have to wear them its optional
Massachusetts has a republican governor. Mask is optional.
