Ohhh I love this song.. lol I love seeing so many people that I have to assume are younger, first discovering this song... the 80s and early 90s were still one of the BEST times for music! The heart and fashion may have been super uncool but man, you can NOT compete with the music of that time, compared to today.. being old enough to remember when this song FIRST came out and truly loving it from then until now this still makes it into my current playlists.. it is such a beautifully haunting song it has a way of staying with you.. Ian McCulloch said he literally woke up from being dead asleep and had the lyrics just kind of "come to him" and he has always said he felt it was God speaking to him..the song being about kife and death and everything beautiful and horrible about life that comes in between.. and the way it has that way of staying with people I kind of believe it did come from SOME higher power or something of the sort.

I was a late bloomer and ever since the start of "manhood" for me, I always read this as the encounter with a femme fatale, in my case, a hooker. Mainly in the lines "The killing time, unwillingly mine", as I never planned my life to turn that way, which again coincide with "up against your will, through the thick and thin, He will wait until you give yourself to Him", which symbolizes the struggle against what is and what could be, which isn't and never will. I never ever researched to see what this song is about and honestly... I don't really care. This interpretation always gave me goosebumps on remembering my first experiences and boy, oh boy... "Your lips; a magic world; the sky upon in jewels" is just so god damn beautiful... as was feeling like a man who could be desirable for the first time. Holy shit, I love this song.

Who cares what the song is about. The song had an impact on someone and made them feel like doing something because of it. I only watched this because it’s supposed to be the best song written. I didn’t really think much of it. Im glad it moved someone else though. Thats what music is for.
