    Recently I've been using my Canon FD 50mm f1.4 SSC a lot. Adapted to my Canon R I love the images it makes.

    I got one, this isn't my favorite lens, but it got me realizing what I could do with photography.
    Sigma 17-70 f2.8-f4 2:1 macro lens for Nikon DSLRs. AF was terrible, it was loud and slow, but the optics are as sharp as modern mirrorless camera lenses. That lens got me hooked and into the Sony mirrorless ecosystem today.

    Great video Brandon! It's tough to choose a favorite lens, but its either the Mamiya RZ67's 110mm or the Zeiss Otus 55 mounted on a GFX. I got into photography with a 35mm prime on APS-C, and that focal length has always just felt right to me ever since. Both of these lenses have outstanding image quality and reproduction of fine details, but still have a sense of unique character to them. I feel like I get the best of both worlds with them.

    I think Take makes a really good point.
    For some people lens is a tool they use to do their job. For those people they probably value things what will make their job easier, they won't need to spend xy amount of hours to achieve the look they're looking for.
    For other people as Take says lens is a form of artistic expression. These people can work around the imperfections of the lens and make it shine.
    For me personally a great lens is a combination of good enough performance, features (AF/MF, silent motor, aperture ring, distance scale, max f/stop,...) and great ergonomics... I've used so many lenses that are great optically and had great features but the ergonomics suck so I would never reach for them.

    I really love all my lenses and could not pick a favorite. I go through periods where one of them is the most used, but it always shifts round and round.
    I own a 24-70, 35-150, 85 1.4, 200-600. 14mm prime is coming up next.

    Great idea integrating the senn kit review into this video. I've gotta ask though... were you silent-laughing during the interviews (classic camera op move) or is the shotgun magic?

    see... for me, the best lens has low chromatic aberration (especially longitudinal) because they're hard to correct, where stuff like vignetting or distortion are easy to dial out. I prefer a really fast lens because you can open it wide and get really moody, but usually they're tack sharp even modestly stopped down - so they're just inherently flexible. Personally I like one of two things - if I only had one lens, I would take my DFA 28-105 f/3.5 from Pentax because it's just so flexible, but my 40 year old MF 50mm f/1.7 is way more artistically flexible by virtue of its excellent optics.

    so if you like 40mm i surges you to checkout Pentax Limited 43mm f1,8 LTM(L39) lens. Loved it's K variant, sold and miss it now.

      @@qsm-cqfd why even use autofocus in a fixed shot.

    • @pkennethv
      @pkennethv Месяц назад +2

      @yoshilikestrains I agree with @@qsm-cqfd re. auto-focus doing him dirty at 11:52-12:07 cuz you can see the focus hunting in & out constantly, but the shot at 5:00 is so consistently out of focus with no hunting, I think it's more likely the camera was set to manual focus but either they moved their distance to the camera, or he knocked the manual focus ring without noticing.
      Perhaps because that happened, he switched to shooting with auto focus at 11:52. Or if he shot the clip at 11:52 first, he noticed the hunting, so he decided to set the camera to manual focus for the shot at 5:00 but then had to deal with a different set of problems, as described above.
