The reason DGD survived so many vocalists is because the core of the band has always been Will, Jon and Matt.

Just to clarify with Kurt Travis, he did not get kicked out or cancelled. Johnny had gone to rehab or something and wanted to rejoin, so Kurt agreed to leave and pursue other projects so Johnny could rejoin the group. Kurt is one of the only members who seems to be a good dude, just wanted to make sure this was clear
Edit: I’ve been informed that I was wrong, oh well. But regardless my point stands Kurt has no allegations or cancellations or any shit like that. Seems like a great dude

I recall Kurt's ejection having more to do with his refusal to quit smoking when the band felt he wasn't hitting high notes well enough. That said, i can't for the life of me remember where i read this so take that grain of salt with this info
Kurt is a good due but he didn't leave on his own accord lol his voice was HORRID during his last tour with them because he didn't want to quit smoking. He was screaming his singing parts and just couldn't hit the high notes. After the tour he was told that the band was gonna do one more tour with Jonny and just do DTBM songs and then call it quits. Obviously that didn't happen, but Kurt has talked a few times about this. He's stared that he knew his position in DGD was never permanent and wasn't surprised when he got booted.
The reason was this. Kurt's smoking was making him perform badly and the band had a lot of internal tension. They got burnt out and were ready to call it quits. They decided before they quit, they wanted to get the original lineup back for a final album. Kurt was basically blindsided and got hurt pretty bad by it. Zach was left due to not being able to get along with Will among other things. Everyone came back and they toured the album and they fell back in love with playing music. Jonny then causes some shit, gets kicked, Eric leaves, and the Tim and Tilian join. They keep grinding until they become the band they are today.
He wouldn't quit smoking and he even brought it up at one of his shows recently when someone asked.
Hence why he doesn't smoke no more.
Kurt is a genuine dude he'll stop and give you the time of day, even honked at us and waved goodbye when we were leaving a venue once and rolled down his window and thanked us for driving all the way to see them play.

You forgot to mention that Jon Mess left, and Will Swan did heavy vocals for an album, and then he came back 😂 Also that Andrew Wells was a touring guitarist/support vocalist who’s covered for Jon Mess and Tillian on vocals during their tours, and that he’s an absolute giga chad of a man who’s somehow incredibly nice and is now fully part of the band, and you forgot how Will Swan lays down some sick raps that he needs to do more of on their music, and you should have said more about Andy being the next one up, or some people have even said that Jack Black is the only option 😂😂😂 Great breakdown of everything though!

I have been a fan of the Tilian era of DGD for quite some time, ever since I heard “Prisoner” from Afterburner. Something about it just clicked in my head and couldn’t figure it out what it was. But after hearing it multiple times, I realized it was Tilian’s voice. There’s something about Tilian’s voice that made me listen to more of his DGD songs. His harmonics and wide range are simply good goosebump worthy
I had a wonderful opportunity of seeing him and the rest of DGD at SwanFest in Philadelphia back in October. It was my first festival and my first DGD concert. And let’s just say, I had a blast seeing them and the rest of the bands like Rain City Drive, Saosin, Set It Off and Periphery just having fun. And the Tim Feerick tribute during the end of “Count Bassy” was the highlight of that set
I’m very sad that Tilian left but I wish him the best of luck with his solo stuff and I’ll be looking forward to hearing what he has cooking in that brain of his

I remember seeing DGD live back in 2016 (possibly '17) and they had all 3 vocalists on stage doing different songs at different points. Fucking incredible gig, broke my glasses in the mosh pit. Funny seeing all the vocalist issues keep coming back. Maybe they'll have all the vocalists on stage again for the next tour.
Another 10 years down the line the reunion tour is 6 vocalists lmao

You should really check out eidola! The rhythm guitarist for DGD is the LEAD SINGER for eidola and he is soooooooo good!
Honestly, with the track record they have with vocalists, the idea of them hiring Tyler Carter is hilarious and somehow not unbelievable. I personally think Andrew Wells should take over vocals. He’s an amazing singer and unfortunate as it may be, he’ll go a lot farther with DGD than with Eidola.

One of my favorite bands that got me into extreme metal is Divine Heresy. Their first vocalist was Tommy Vext (every member was a different race, which was interesting to me back then), but I was introduced to Travis Neal on the second album. I heard Dino Cazares plans to bring in Lauren Hart of Once Human for the third album. I hope they just do this naturally. Different singers per album sounds dope.

Why I find Andrew getting promoted to main vocalist and Sergio becoming a full time member very likely is because Eidola is planning on either a hiatus or a disbanding after Mend comes out

This is the most reddit comment I've ever seen, Berthoud has NOTHING in common with these guys style-wise and Sergio Medina is wildly underrated, at least as a guitar player. DGD will move forward into a new era, and HOPEFULLY one free of sexual assault.
Additionally, Andrew wells has been a part of the band as a vocalist and guitarist for a while now.
i haven't even listened to DGD since all the shit went down in 2022, and the only "swancore"-adjacent shit ive been listening to since has been just Circa Survive and Kurt Travis' solo stuff. and i guess The Mars Volta if you count them too cause they were a HUGE influence on that general sound

Should never have asked him back to begin with, especially when doing so made them delete all their social media stuff where they (Including Tillian himself) acknowledged his coercive, rapey behavior, and replacing them with statements on how Tillian has "Never had problems with consent" (WHAT? He literally admitted to coercing and pushing a girl into sex, that's not consent!).
That said inviting Jonny back isn't a good idea either, his history of SA allegations is worse than Tillian's lol. People just decided to ignore it because the drunk violence allegations were more immediate.

DGD with Donovan is basically current Hail The Sun lol, no offense to Big Donny but HTS has definitely been getting poppier the same way DGD did with Tilian. Donovan does so many little side projects I could see an EP or an album with him, but I'd bet that DGD is really looking for someone permanent.

Dgd imo fucked their career by keeping Tilian, they have been ostracized from the community, they never get bigger named bands on their tours anymore, if you look at swanfest, they used to have the whole thing be name bands and basically got no one since the Tilian allegations. They were on this high trajectory before these allegations and should have let him go right away.
The allegations were just that; allegations. Tilian admitted he had a drinking problem and went to therapy. The only girl that there was an actual issue with was a girl he had a one night stand with who wanted a relationship, and he didn't. He did admit that things got rough during when it wasn't talked about before they started, but he by no means raped anybody. She never withdrew consent. If any of these people had a genuine case against him, they would have already taken him to court. Stop believing women just because they're women

I forget the details to the situation compared to what I knew at the time, I do not remember anything about she wanted a relationship, in fact the opposite where she sent a text about how weird it was the next day. This made me rethink what rape even is. It's not necessarily that it is this violent thing people have to do, a girl saying no, stop, and still being forced on, scared to get physical and everything, and having a sexual encounter she did not want to have is rape. She had the screenshots and receipts that they definitely met up and something weird happened, was very low key about the whole thing not expecting it to blow up like it did. I can't imagine what more proof you need. The more I read and think about your comment the crazier this seems that you can see this and take away the opinion you have.
Actually it's coming back to me how this even happened. There was a crazier woman that came out first, then I believe the more legit allegation I'm referring to came out because she had typed this in the comments of the first allegation. You might just be referring to the first allegation, I forget what it all was, but it had more holes to the story than the one I'm talking about.

DGD concert was the only time I ran into an asshole at a metal show, at least in the recent memory. This dude was very into DGD, was totally wasted, and was in everyone's face. When I asked him to chill a bit, he really got into my face and for a second I thought we'll be throwing down lol. His buddy pulled him away (he was almost as obnoxious himself tbh). Maybe it's the bands I usually see, but the crowds are usually awesome, and even in the pit people would help you get up and not absolutely knock the shit out of you. It was slightly odd seeing a very drunk guy attempting to sing ultra high pitched tracks together with Tillian lol.
People like that are no-life tools that will never be anything. They think they know the band members personally because they listen to their music more than someone else, lmao.. weird para-social people that just project their sad feelings onto other people. There's a reason he was wasted drunk..

I ran into fair shares of that, I think thats every concert. I saw Enter Shikari and I was trying to get to the front front, and these stupid bitches wouldn't move they had plenty of room to move either side and they kept hogging the front, so I got pissed pushed them to the side and was like next time someone saids move fuckin move. And they were pissed, I was with my dad too and he saw how pissed I was, even he was pissed too. Like I would understand if there was no room to move but they had plenty. I was sucker punched in back of head too at Wage War, by some fuckin asshole. I got stuck in circle pit's, lol the best is when I was at Warp with my gf at the time and told her to go into the pit during Enter Shikari show, and she was about too till this girl who was like 18 ran by her with a bloody nose screaming and crying. My GF ran off like a little girl screaming, made me miss the whole fuckin set, she was crying uncontrollably was like why did you take me here lol. Also she wore a coconut bikini top, and jean shorts. Told her not to, because will be made fun of. she didn't want to listen, what happens this DJ called her out he was like yo whats up to the conut tit girl I couldn't stop laughing. I think she was emotionally scar for life. Oh well.
I really loved what Tillian brought to the band, i'm very sad he left :/
The Ghost Of Billy Royalton dropped at such a weird time because it was right after Tim died and Tilian getting soft canceled, so Will saying, "DGD always stay united." Gave me so much hopium that Tilian would be back. And then he was for Jackpot Juicer. I thought everything was okay until my friend told me a week ago that they kicked him again and that this was current. My heart can't take this back and forth. Tilian Era DGD is and always will be peak to me 😭😭
I still can't believe they are still going, ready for a new chapter.
As far as I know Johnny has straightened his s*** out and he's the best vocalist I've ever heard yes he's done some f***** u* s*** no I do not supported but God damn... The Johnn era was the best era. And not for nothing slaves has some really good music
The problem is he struggles to STAY sober. Forgive me for being pessimistic, but I have a feeling he could still break at any time.
@@InkAndPoet .yeah...unfortunately that's how it is for most.most musicians I kno who toured..( including myself). Struggled with addiction..some can stay sober but most relapse..I really hope for him he can overcome his demons,too much talent in that man.

Ultimately I'm glad they made this decision. Tilian is not a good person and because of what he did i avoided listening to the last album entirely. DGD for a long time was in my top 5 favorite bands but because of everything that happened they lost fans (me included). I hope they bring someone entirely new on who can not only lead the band in a better direction but surpass and overcome tilians legacy
Here's an idea: maybe they should consider becoming an instrumental band.

they've released instrumental versions of all of their albums so probably not. The thing that has made DGD so popular has been the dope instrumentals with the singing to match. Otherwise they're just another Chon

@chopst11ck at 3:34, Kurt is not back with a lot like birds, because that band isn't back together. They played two shows, one hometown show in Sac which I attended, and the second was penultimate headliner at the Kill Iconic festival in so cal. They're my favorite band of all time, so as much as I wish it to be true that they're back together, they sadly aren't :(
