      I resonate sooo deeply with what you’re saying about having done the work to move to the “next level” and moving as a symbol of that. I have a week to move out of an apartment that I once felt trapped in yet was so afraid of leaving. I am feeling overwhelmed and a bit unsure of what my life will look like post move. I am looking forward to it though and am thankful for it all. Blessing to you on your journey 🤍🦋🍃🙏

    That's why I stress the importance of not calling yourself a "RUclipsr" if you want to get into content creation.
    RUclips is just somewhere to upload video.
    If you worked at The New York Times writing articles would you call yourself "A NewYorker?" No you would say you're a writer.
    People need to understand that building a business outside of these platforms is the key. You are the profession and not the platform.

    While no job or career is free of risks, the reality is that a “9 to 5” and other traditional work is more reliable at producing something close to a living wage than social media careers. We really have terrible statistics on the success rate of content creators and of the finances of a social media career. We have confirmation bias because the creators most of us watch have some degree of success. I think people should pursue their dreams and interests, but that can be done while also being engaged in some form of traditional employment.

    The only true safety is the sanctuary you cultivate within. These jobs, hell the entire job market itself, is predicated on siphoning your life energy with this notion that the money you make will give you access to a better life.
    But honestly, its turned people into masochists, and I see people absorb struggle and suffering for this hypothetical pot of gold at the end of the road.

    This popped on my feed at the right time. I've been working since I was 16 and I just turned 27 3 months ago. I told my family, coach, and a few friends how my soul is just tired and depleted of everything. Right now after just going out on a walk and taking breaks, I have a new aspect on life. I have put so much effort and work into things just to be safe, have money, but my soul is tugging at me to risk it all and go after the thing I've been working towards since I was 6. And I am finally going to do it, walking away from 9-5 and into my destiny.....

  • @rstart.1276
    @rstart.1276 6 месяцев назад +114

    Definitely. RUclipsr's (or anyone with a lot of 'freedom' or 'time on their hands') tend to not challenge themselves enough because they have the option of such. Like the concept of delayed gratification, our innate attempt to be 'comfortable' and 'happy' isn't actually the best thing for us. I personally love it when a RUclipsr turns their channel into a personal project rather than an income stream, and actually challenges themselves and grows through it. It creates transferable skills that can benefit not just within the workforce but also on a personal level. Same kinds of risk, investment, thought, creativity, and commitment all needed in various environments of life.

    • @chimdi
      @chimdi  6 месяцев назад +9

      You really nailed it about the risk, creativity and commitment that we can build as a RUclips creator being the same skills we use in other areas of our life!! It really is a choice to keep stepping up to challenges when we can coast instead. It's really beautiful when people model it for us because the temptation to stay comfortable is STRONG 😩

    • @_theebreemaree
      @_theebreemaree 6 месяцев назад +1

      Could you give some examples of ways that you think content creators on RUclips could turn channels into a personal project rather than a strenuous form of income ?

    • @rstart.1276
      @rstart.1276 6 месяцев назад +8

      @@_theebreemaree Sure! A big portion of what I said can also be reduced to just finding your passion and trying to execute it in the best way you can, which of course is easier said than done as it can give you an existential crisis 😂. But I do think that it's the most important part because even though RUclips is just one channel to express yourself, and of course, if someone just wants to stick to specific trends or just "post whatever" that's fine too, but I just find it refreshing when people treat it like a 'personal project' - it reflects not just authenticity but also drive and passion and that's so beautiful to watch. To give actual examples and stop being so wordy...let's take someone who is into hair content (*cough* 😊) I would try to first find the why behind it, similar to project management and starting with the 'goal' and what you're trying to achieve in order to create actual value but also differentiate yourself better i.e., is it to raise awareness/educate people, is it because you believe there's not a big enough market for certain areas you want to focus on, is it simply because you think that's what you're best at, etc etc. Taking the example where you think you're really good at it - I would do something like challenge myself by taking trips to different salons (preferably in different locations so you also get a trip out of it) and then categorizing the channel based on the different chapters throughout the journey i.e., the first section is a form of 'reportage' on each salon based on their 'history', 'styles', 'influences', geographical location etc. , the second section is your actual experiences in the salons by actually practicing/learning some of the hairstyle and showing the process, the third section can be you trying it out by yourself by doing a sort of pop-up salon where you go to unconventional areas or trendy events like festivals and try to style people's hairs (this way you also expand your social media presence lol) ... Obviously this is just a rough draft idea but I hope I portrayed my idea of a 'personal project' well!

      Remember who you are and that abundance is already within you. If you are “wealthy” your reality has no choice but to reflect that. What I’ve noticed is that when I focus heavily on how to make money or even just trying to flip my thoughts to positive ones it doesn’t improve anything because I’m still focused on ‘lack’. HERE’S THE KEY: Accept that not having enough is simply a possibility. ( acknowledge the circumstance/fear and release it ) Go within to your “I Am” and shift your attention to the fact that you are abundant completely dropping that old mindset and getting you to the abundance that is already within.
      My favorite spiritual teacher Neville Goddard once said “You are already that which you want to be, and your refusal to believe it is the only reason you do not see it.”
      Don’t think of it as changing your reality, think of it as simply stepping into a new one, much love ❤️

    Chimdi wow! This video was AMAZING. It’s been so cool to see you grow as the channel’s been growing and as I’ve been growing. (I started watching your videos when your channel was a wee baby!). You relate to the audience like an old friend and it’s so cozy! I’m also not concerned about you finding a new place. Whatever vibe you want, you’ll get! When it comes to fear, something tells me that it’s going to be an amazing guide instead of something to get rid of. I keep hearing this quote - “Fear is excitement without the breath” Sending lots of love/good vibes

    I get operating on vibes.😂😂 I swear. Currently I am at my most IDGAF. And it has brought me so much inner joy. Like I am just if shit is gonna happen might as well let it happen with me calm. I realized that my feelings are actually actions I take in response to circumstances. Like I F up then punish myself by entertaining feeling like shit as if to say "I can't be a bad person see I'm feeling bad." Now I take accountability to my actions both to myself and others but no way I'm gonna spend my energy punishing myself so some external thing can come out of nowhere and tell me you are actually a good person don't feel bad. This in turn some how, by some miracle is what is keeping me safe. I swear to God I don't know how I paid this month's rent after quitting my job with very minimal back up plan. Like my other job only pays me enough for my rent but some how there is plenty in my account to last me till the next month. When i was working at the job i quit i would be worrying about money constantly. Now not even quarter as much. I swear somehow shit just works out.

    • @chimdi

      It is truly WILD how it really does all work out! I just sit back and let God show off at this point. AMEN to all of this inner joy and to leaving worry in the past. I am so excited for the blessings to keep pouring into our lives!!!

    Thank you for your candor and confirmation. I'm in my late 30's and just grasp the understanding that the chase is not where it is but truly understanding the journey in our evolution. I don't think we are taught to truly understand that. Running away has always been my go to. I'm a track star that has finally ran out of running space 😂. Your words spoke to my soul. Thank you. thank you for sharing this update on your life and agree nothing is guaranteed--it's about knowing how to be resilient. i also agree that demonstrating how you move helps others see a process and empower them by seeing how/that something can be done (i have at least 4 people i know who quit their job and taking a long sabbatical after seeing me survive it). the thing you said about safety---whoo---thank you for pointing that out. deep down i think i knew that but hadn't grasped that as a real goal besides happiness. i recently coached someone (the 4th person who quit after the coaching) and helped them identify what they needed on a deeper level so that they move in a direction that leads them that gets them that. wishing you luck and excited to hear your journey of where you land next!! 💕💎🌟🍀

    You are 100% right, neither option is safe. I learned that lesson the hard way last year when I was laid off from jobs 3 times in one year. After that, 9-5's never felt like the safe option. That being said, I'm still choosing to work a 9-5 because the real benefit is the guaranteed income (as long as you continue working), stable schedule and there's a level of detachment I get to have (It's not my business so when I'm done for the day, I'm done!). I'm just choosing not to put my whole identity, hopes and dreams into what I do for a living. I just enjoy the ride, learning as much as I can while remembering not to get too comfortable. I stay ready so if I get laid off, I know I can always get another job. That being said, I'm still working on my own platforms outside of my 9-5 so I can have a creative outlet that is 100% mine without the pressure of having to make money from it. And if it ever makes money one day, that would be a nice bonus.

    • @chimdi
      @chimdi  6 месяцев назад +1

      I love what you're saying about not making your work your whole identity!! That is so key. And it's beautiful to have full ownership and control over your creativity and to see any money that comes as an additional blessing! I'm sorry you experienced so many layoffs in such a short amount of time and I'm glad you have been able to enjoy the ride while knowing that if anything happens, you'll always be okay.

    Hi there ! This is the first video of yours im coming across , along with your channel , and i must say, i enjoy how real you and aware you are . This is refreshing to see, and i can relate to these cycles of life as well. Just really surprised and also overjoyed to see others openly sharing such notions about where they are in life and reflecting internally and externally. Love it. I was nodding and smiling because you reminded me a lot of various lessons i myself, should do best not to forget , along with challenges and how I processed dealing with perceived obstacles that only lead to positive , growth, and what i was ultimately reaching for subconsciously to achieve . It’s crazy how things work and unfold, especially once we let go and face things head on or with open arms . You are absolutely where you are suppose to be and already where you need and want to be. Thanks for this wonderful reminder . Also things tend to work for me very similar to what you mentioned . lol so im celebrating for you already! Thanks again for sharing !

    9 to 5 definitely gets overemphasized! I think sometimes it does get equated to "safe," "reliable," or "higher income" but... not really? 😂I'm actually intending at some point to do a video particularly for neurodivergent folks who are evaluating different options (e.g. "do I get a salaried gig?" "do I get something PT?" "do I consult?" "do I start a biz?") and my experience has been that it really comes down more to the actual relationship with the employer, regardless of status.
    Like, yeah, you have to do different taxes etc. and should definitely do the math on what you're actually earning based on the job, the type of job, and the tax status as well as figuring out what you realistically have spoons for in terms of seeking out work / doing paperwork / etc (and factor that into what you're willing to earn!), but I haven't found that there's actually THAT big a difference in terms of reliability since there's no "right to work" in the US-in fact, a contract job could be MORE reliable, though whether that's enforceable depends on whether you could pay a lawyer, so, shrug? A better indicator is probably "how stable is the employer or client base? How badly do they need me? How much work do they have for me? Do I trust them? Are they particularly excited to work with me?" And unfortunately, a lot of those answers are going to favor people with various sorts of privilege, womp womp.
    I haven't found much of a relationship between standard of living / amount of money and type of job, personally, but the kinds of things I spend money on DOES depend on how much I trust work to keep coming in. Anyway THOSE ARE MY THOUGHTS HI. 😂 (Can't remember if I mentioned in another comment but I just took a 25/hr/wk nonprofit Salesforce contract a few weeks ago for my own stability LOL, so this is timely.)

    • @chimdi
      @chimdi  6 месяцев назад

      Avory!!!
      That makes so much sense about the actual company vs. the nature of the work itself. What's been really beautiful with the consulting I've been doing is that its helped me release the idea that working 9-5 is inherently soul-crushing. In fact, it's totally possible to find a DOPE "regular" job!
      And I totally hear you on the relationship between income and spending, I think I would do far more trips if I didn't have the excuse of being on a budget. But part of me believes I just outsourced my "no" to my budget and now that I've embodied stronger boundaries, I can just admit where and when I actually want to travel.
      And congrats on the stability of the contract!!! 🥳🥳🥳

      @@chimdi what is sad for those with a blooming channel is that you can be demonetized without warning or reason. I saw a video of someone speaking on it sometimes last year. So those using this platform, especially those who have a stream of income should make arrangements in the event something unfortunate happen. Girl you are spot on. Every point you’ve made in this video takes me back to God’s words which literally teach the same thing: don’t place your hopes in “worldly/material” things, but place it in HIM who is the only one who can fill you with lasting joy!
    “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

    I recently got a raise/bonus and it triggered an existential crisis. I don't have a social media presence, don't have a hustler's bone in my body, have no deep desire for material things - my car is paid off, and I'm still wearing clothes from ages ago. The raise/bonus was triggerring because it conflicted with my deep sense of contentment with not having or needing more. Here I was, earning more and getting sickened by it. I know it's a very privileged perspective, but I hope I'm able to choose and seek more than the comfort of the monotony of the 9 - 5 ladder climbing and wealth accumulation - to do more that surpasses just being a cog in the wheel of the twilight zone that is the bottomless pit of fulfillment. I want more, but not more money. I hope I can be motivated to have more.
    I wish you all the best on your next path!!

      It makes total sense what you're saying, especially if the reason you got comfortable with not having a lot is because you accepted at a young age that it wasn't going to come so there was no point. I love writing so research is something I could possibly do. I would like to purchase a home too. Tired of renting. My answer to all of this is to trust the process.... God knows what is best for u and I. Keep moving forward with positivitx. Hope u will find ur purpose. God Bless!
    😊

      Amen to trusting the process!!! And you'r so right that it all comes down to how we handle and release the fear that comes up. It's amazing that you found your passion with psychology and I know that you'll attract the exact right career to leverage your degree! CONGRATS!!!

    Must be nice to not have kids and not feel pressured to ALWAYS have a plan and aim for perfection even though you repeatedly fail. Hughhh must be nice 😂😂😂

      Whew girl it IS nice!!! But when you show your kids your imperfections, you teach them that they still deserve love even if they don't get everything right ❤️ They're blessed to have you as a mom!

    I love this video. I'm in a very uncertain place at the moment, but I'm trusting my intuition and leaning into the unexpected, beautiful things that have always found me at low points.
    Six years ago when I was in a really awful spot, the answer was to travel the world full time, although I'd just lost all of my clients.
    I ended up traveling for 3 years, living in luxury homes for free and it was all so much better and less expensive than living in my studio apartment in Los Angeles.
    Life has surprises and sometimes they're far better than we would have imagined.

    Thank u for ur video. The most interesting and wisest point u made is we can live with diminishing the binary of living safe vs. growing. It really encouraged me to go out and do more things like drawing stuff, and i’m sure it helped many people who’ve come across this video.

    RUclips took my husband channel for no reason and I believe they did that so they wouldn't have to pay him anymore. Social media to me now is like celebrity status. They pick and choose who they want to keep moving forward with. I just don't stress anymore about it.

    My husband shared your channel with me and this video resonates with me so much. I have felt lost for a while and also know I feel called to share my creativity in a way that serves my highest good outside of these platforms. It almost feels like RUclips has become a place where people only want monetary rewards when I remember it being about sharing our passions. This was a reminder to trust in divine timing and that my passions will guide towards true fulfilment. Thank you for being you! You are beaming and you’re smile is contagious ✨🫶🏽

I can tell you're going to move through this season of feeling lost and get right back into alignment. Sending you so much love!!!!!

    It’s crazy. I “failed” at a 9-5 after being unemployed for years. Now I feel like I’m “unsafe” again but I literally refuse to be in that prison again because I never wanted a 9-5 to begin with (not saying all 9-5s are bad though)
    *unsafe as in making a monetary living. I’m technically in a super safe living situation
