🎥 TenaaTV presents: Stranger on Horseback (1955): Joel McCrea brings law and order to the range in Stranger on Horseback. McCrea portrays a circuit judge Richard Thorne, who comes to a small western town in the course of making his rounds. There he finds the town and surrounding area under the feudal thumb of an old-line family headed by Josiah Bannerman (John McIntire). Despite wholehearted opposition and obstacles, Thorne fingers Bannerman's spoiled son, Tom (Kevin McCarthy) for murder and smokes out the necessary frightened witnesses and defies the whole clan by seeing that justice is done. In doing so he even wins the grudging respect of the old cattle baron, gains the love of the latter's strong-willed niece, Amy (Miroslava Stern), and awakens the sheriff (Emile Meyer) to a new sense of duty.

As a western addict since childhood (almost) I am happy to recommend this film to fellow western lovers. Especially as John Carradine appears. England, January, 2024.
It’s a genuine Louis L’Amour novel. I read him. He was Awesome to say the least.
Was a loss to nations. He wrote significantly.
This is what a movie must teach and guide the society, truth prevails no matter what. It may look weary and disappointing for a short while, but it will prevail, for it is the foundation and purpose of creation. God bless.
Well said.
I started reading Western's as a 12 year old, Max Brand, Zane Grey, etc. This is a Classic I had never seen or heard before, true quality script. Unique twists and turns, good Movie. Thank You!
I loved Zane Grey's books as an adolescent. You can find some on the internet.
Mr. McCrea was always to me a very good actor. Never saw a movie he wasn’t good in. Thank you for sharing. 🤩
For people who don't understand (see comments below), this movie was about principles not outcomes. It's principles of fairness and justice and that the rule of law supercedes feelings and loyalties, principles that are hard to find today where people too often just want what they want and will lie and bully others to get their way.
Principles are for those who can afford them
AMEN

Joel McCrea what a fine actor, I would watch him all day
I was pleased to read a piece wherein Joel McCrea decided to continue his career in only WESTERNS.
His last movie was in the Godfather as the police captain.
@@paulbklyn4742
Wrong, that was Sterling Hayden, a nonrepentant commie.
@@paulbklyn4742, the corrupt captain was Sterling Hayden (Johnny Guitar).
Classic Western. Well written and some good performances from a really entertaining cast. Joel does a great job!
These old classics are truly amazing

McCrea was a Gem 💎. Fabulous in Westerns . Aussie Fan
Joel McCrea. was born to play the role of a cowboy. Brilliant, he never disappoints. Thanks for sharing.
He was Not a Cowboy but a Judge !
I continue to watch this movie over and over! This is the 3rd this year I’ve seen this superb movie👍🏾 The justice was handled slow and directly. 😉👏🏽👍🏾💯
Joel Mccrea is one of my favourite Western Movies 🎬 Actors .
I am Australian... but Gee l wish 🤞 sometimes l was born in the USA 🇺🇸 & had the opportunity 2 be around these wonderfull Actors
just seeing the wonderful locations where the movies were filmed is an eyeopener, too. Nothing like the American West. My ancestors were Homesteaders, Pioneers, & Cowboys in Kansas. A hard life, but, they prospered. Maybe you can visit one day.
'These wonderful Actors' have all moved on to a Higher Plain and none can take their place.
Best wishes to those 'Down Under.'
I am Australian and I am glad as hell I was never born in the USA
Mr. McRea's ranch is open to the public. Plan your pilgrimage and come visit to appreciate the heritage of a fine man.
@@HenriHattar Glad you weren't either. We have enough descendants of criminals here already.
What a tough Judge Joel McCrea, manage to serve justice for the people of small western town. Bring law & order in place against a cattle baron with just a help from the sheriff and the father & daughter as the witness. Great movie.
Terrific western. Joel McCrea was perfect as a circuit judge. The climax reminds me of True Grit... Rooster vs. the bad guys. McIntyre is a winner as antagonist.
Yes
Joel McCrea a great western hero. Glad that Peckinpah realized it and had him in the Ride the High Country, one of the best westerns ever made.
Agreed. McCrea and Randolph Scott were perfect.
@@MOGGS1942 I have to say I do not really like the westerns of Randolph Scott (with one or two exceptions), I find them too soft and he lacks the authority of other western actors. But yes, in the Ride the High Country he is excellent.
McCrea was excellent as judge in this remarkable old classic.
Out of context, I do like 'The Big Country'...
Randolph Scott-- best Western movie cowboy ever, hands down!
@@tomdooley4226 For Little House in the Prairie type of movies I have to agree with you.
That's one western worthy of watching 😊
Yes it is!
Watched this Fabulous 1955 Western Heaps of Times . Never Tire of this Classic. Wine / Beer & Snacks. Kick Back & Enjoy. ...
Enjoyed this movie, I was a bit surprised that Justice was serviced without the Judge being killed. Not today! 👍🏾🧐🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🏾
I think I heard that Joel McCrea said his favorite movie was Stars In My Crown. I loved it.

Great film! Joel McCrea and John McIntire NEVER disappoint!
The ending was superb. The bad guys almost never win, but with a couple minutes to go, it looked like John had Joel licked.
Four star western all the way, with an excellent supporting cast. 🔫🔫🔫🔫

Every movie they made back then had meaning - was true work hard work and lots of effort. That’s why they made the historical records
We have watched this amazing western many times and still enjoy the action as if it was the first time we saw the movie. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
Good script, excellent acting and leaving the audience with their imagination.
I would even give the horses an Oscar.
GOOD MOVIE THANK YOU WONDERFUL COLOUR AND PRINT.
This movie was based on a story by Louis L’Amour (1907-1988), arguably one on the three greatest western novelists of the 20th century, right up there with Max Brand and Zane Grey. L’Amour lived to see many of his novels arrive on the silver screen and the television screen, and was known for his series of novels featuring the Sackett family from Tennessee who headed out west as gunfighters, lawmen, bounty hunters, prospectors, and settlers. He was one of my mom’s favorite authors, and I got hooked on his novels as well.
Iv seen this movie before but still well worth watching again. Brilliant show.
The principles and outcomes were a big challenge to the judge, the witness, and the lady that came to love the judge inspire of being betrothed to the family's bank manager.❤❤❤❤A great and wonderful movie that I have watched recently though it's a lot old.
Excellent movie. Worth watching again.
THANK YOU FOR THE MOVIE.
👍👌👏 Thanks a lot for uploading and sharing this great old Western. I didn't know this movie before.
Best regards, luck and health in particular.
This was a great movie. It was kinda sad when it ended. They could have made this movie much longer. The acting was good, the writing, directing. Watch it!
Beautiful movie!
Great movie thank you 👍
You're welcome
This was a GREAT Movie.
High quality production. Thanks for sharing.
Our pleasure!
Great movie 🎬 🎞 🎥 🎦 📽 👌 🎬. Good script, good actors 👌 👍. The good,the bad 👎 and the ugly. That's entertainment.
Joel McRae was one of the best big screen actors, especially Westerns.
He was born in 1909 and his career as an actor spanned almost 5o years. He appeared in over 100 movies in which in 80 of them he starred. He appeared in Western films exclusively from 1946 to 1976, when he retired.
In 1946, he turned down the lead role in "The Postman Always Rings Twice". He said "This character is too much of a gigalo. I don't like his moral standards."
He turned down several roles because he couldn't see himself in them. (-from Wikipedia -)
I rate Gregory Peck also as one of the best Western stars.
Great actor Joel McCres❤❤❤❤
Like John Wayne, Joel is Not a Great actor! All those two do - is playing themselves !
from when they knew how to make a western. GREAT
MAWGA!
Great cast of character actors!!!!
Great movie thank you for posting it 🌞😁
Brothers and Sisters. That was a Great flick. Didn't know what was going to happen. Till last minute. Seen Last Train from Gun Hill. About 7 times. Better!!!
Awesome movie, reminds me of modern day Yellowstone
Its an awesome movie! in the end rule of law and justice was served.
The story for this movie was written by Louis L’Amour (1907-1988), quite possibly the greatest western novelist of the 20th century. He was best known for his series of novels featuring the Sackett family, and quite a few novels were filmed for the silver screen and the television screen, including the two-part television mini-series THE SACKETTS (1979) with Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott and the television movie CONAGHER (1991) with Sam Elliott and Katherine Ross.
And Sam and Katherine had a long Happy marriage 💕
Pll
He cannot be compared to the very best western author Louis Masterson, or Kjell Hallbing, which was his real name. Ever read the Morgan Kane books?
@@per-arnemoa103 Can’t say as I have. Any good?

Thanks Again Though.
They don’t make movies like this anymore and not Good actors either. This movie has it all 👍
Better than I expected
Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea two of my favorite western actors.I'll watch them before I watch a John Wayne movie.BTW, Miroslava was more popular in Mexico as an actress in the 50's before commiting suicide at 32.
Joel great guy he was
Buenos días subanla en español y no la quiten me gusta ya la e visto muchas gracias bendiciones
Thanks y’all
However good his (Joel McCrea) westerns are, for me no other of his films can top "Fort Massacre"(1958)
For it's more than a western, a great war movie comparable to "The Steel Helmet"(1951) & "Pork Chop Hill"
Nice comment, noted!
@@tenaatv
I saw "Fort Massacre" twice in theaters in my SE Asian country..
The 1st time in 1962 & I was sorely perplexed by its bleakness.
The 2nd time in 1966, & I understood it as a true war movie & no longer a "cowboys - Indians" western.
Joel McCrea and John Russell delivered absolutely !
7:02 to 7:49 so cute to see a little red kitty 😻🙀in a Western Movie just chilling 🐱
Strangers when we meet
Strangers in the night
Not as a stranger
The question is what is a stranger!
The cattle king of Australia could travel from the bottom of South Australia, to the Gulf in Queensland, and not get off his own land. Australia is virtually the same area as North America, so it is not small. Quite a feat a hundred years ago, to own roughly that many properties.. His name was Sydney Kidman. If he had been over a place he never forgot it. One of his Stations, Durham Downs, in the channel country, was 4000 square miles. This is by no means the biggest Station over here, but it gives you an idea .
Mean people in this World. Then and Now.
Thanks for uploading this good film. Miroslava Šternová Beková (Amy Lee Bannerman) committed suicide just a few weeks before this film was released. She overdosed on sleeping pills.
Thanks...
You're welcome!
Ending wasn't any good. Too many open questions. Who did the judge end up with out of the two girls? Was Thomas found guilty? He committed another murder on the trail?
Excellent
Thank You!
Man and gun 🔫 never ever separated.. Man can leave a woman but not gun... Real man
Good movie.
Darn good movie.
Good flick but I remember the picture being just a little clearer...
Great movie with solid cast depicting the age old battle between right and wrong.
On another note, my soon to be 90 y.o. mother told me that in her day, only prostitutes wore lipstick and plastered gobs of make-upon themselves like they portray most of the women in this movie and others. And people believe that all this loose portrayal of women was for lighting purposes. Now, that s funny. 🙏
Banermen (John McIntyre) played wagon master on wagon train.
Great movie.
Also the movie had a lot of other good actors. 🤩
Don't make them like that any more
No they don't :)

True.
That is for darn certain!
@@tenaatv😊😊😊😊
Wait! It's over? Was he found guilty? did he hang? 2 girls couldn't go home. which one did the judge pick? How can it just end like that?
Going by what goes in the US today probably not. If you have family or friends in high places you can get away with anything
A most unremarkable film
I thought I had watched this movie before but now I’m not so sure. I don’t remember the ending if I did. 😮
Talk about scenery, it’s got Ioads! Filmed in Sedona, AZ

Great movie. Would have liked to see him found guilty.
The cat it kills it!❤😂
Never seen this one before
Gotta go and see if I can't find same movie elsewhere. Too many commercials!!! Can honestly say, I've never in 70 years, bought a single thing because of a commercial. Sorry. Good movie
And if you think he's strange on horseback, wait until you see him on giraffe.
Yup weve made great advances in govt and politics and all. We are back to law books and guns and conflicts of interest. God help us.
How does it feel to keep to uphold the law, loathsome. Classic
Nice.
An interesting movie. Thanks for posting. Not too sure that Louis Lamour had much to do with this silly script (Lamour wrote with more reality): McCrae's character isn't too bright and the plot is too predictable.
Very good Western up to the last 10 min, then it becomes unbelievable. The open endiing does nor help, and the 65' length makesv this film hard to classify: B in terms of length but first class as far as direction and acting are concerned.
Por favor subala en español gracias
hate endings like this, watch the whole film, then you have to imagine the end for yourself rubbish.
50:01 As in allllll westerns, when the good guys need it, there is always a shortcut - usually shorter than the shortest shortcut.
I’m not sure who got pushed over the cliff but I assume that it was the girls father who was to testify. 😢😢😢😢😢
Bom filme!
The Man was walking Tall before baseball bats were invented ;)
He certainly would have received the Death Penalty and as a favour to his Old Man, he would have been allowed to pull the lever. Fair's fair, after all.
The comment is understood!
$2 a day for a room.. Hah. Regular wages were $40 a Month in those days maybe $70 for a Judge.
Louis L'Amour also write the novel " Hondo" from which the movie starring John Wayne was produced.
