Storyline:
The latest of a series of stagecoach holdups in the Arizona Territory takes place on a stagecoach in which Mike Ryan, undercover agent for the stage line, and Molly Jones, daughter of the local sheriff, are passengers. The bandana masking one of the robbers slips and he is killed by the gang-leader Velvet Clark. The latter masquerades as a respectable piano-playing citizen of the community. The townspeople are aroused enough over the continued robberies that they ask Sheriff Tom Jones to resign but they agree to give him more time when he takes on Ryan as a deputy. Circumstantial evidence leads the sheriff to Clark, but the latter kills him and escapes. Ryan tracks him to Gunsight Ridge where there is a showdown gunfight.
Reviews:
""Joel McCrae" -- almost all you need to say.
But here he is surrounded by extraordinarily talented actors, all working well together in a much better than average script.
Many of the characters get a chance to stand out, including one played by one of my favorites, the great Herb Vigran. I actually had a chance to meet him when he was playing in a stage version, in Los Angeles, of "Merton of the Movies."
A certain major TV series star played "Merton," but, to be honest, he was the least talented actor on stage.
Herb Vigran could have given him lessons -- as could a very young girl (maybe 7?) in the cast -- on how to project. But Herb Vigran had been around and started with some built-in talent that just grew and grew in his years as, for example, a villain in the "Superman" series, and in guest appearances in such other shows as "Adam 12."
He was also a charming and gracious person.
Leading lady Joan Weldon was outrageously padded and I wonder, again, why talented actresses allowed themselves to be so used. She was already beautiful, she did have talent, and being made to look almost grotesque simply made no sense.
There were three other important female characters, merely one more factor that prevents "Gunsight Ridge" from being properly called a "B movie."
As a character not named in the credits except "Farm Girl," young Carolyn Craig just plain stole every scene she was in. She was a really beautiful 23-year-old who looked younger, and had an amazingly expressive face. In short, she was a marvelous actress and I would bet she was stage trained.
"Rosa" was the girl-friend of the bad guy and, as played by Darlene Fields, about whom is nothing known, was a very sympathetic person. Darlene Fields also was beautiful, and I'm surprised so little is know about her. She too gave a superlative performance and should have been in dozens of movies and TV shows. What a shame we know so little about her.
Another great actor was Addison Richards who seemed the perfect career law enforcer.
All the other cast members deserve mention, too, but we're running out of electrons. Let me just say, again, nearly every one had a chance to stand out as characters and every one performed superbly.
There were two or three director flaws, but there is no reason to mention them. They did not detract much.
One major flaw, though, is that one character who is killed off early is not listed in the credits. And the actor who played him really deserves mention.
This is an excellent movie, and would have earned a "10" except for the director flaws and one sound flaw."-Written by morrisonhimself on IMDb.com

I never could understand why a good actor like JOEL McCREA never became as famous as JOHN WAYNE, KIRK DOUGLAS, BURT LANCASTER, HENRY FONDA AND RICHARD WIDMARK AMONG ORHERS.
He didn't want it
I love everyone of the actors you named. Add Gregory Peck and that is my list.
He didn’t get Diddy with it
love these ol westerns, ol joel mccrea makes a fine western
This is such a good movie. Thank you for sharing it.
I love listening to this guy talk his talk.
Filmed at Tucson Studios and another fantastic western. So many great movies made there. Eldorado, Rio Bravo, Winchester 73, Guns of Fort Petticoat and hundreds of others. I heard they closed Tucson Studios which is a shame because as you walk there and realize you are walking where so many great actors like John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Audie Murphy, Joel McCrea and others walked you can feel the history.
It burned down about thirty years ago, but they rebuilt it. I never heard they closed it down.
A great film I have watched it before and I have watched it again and enjoyed it again
Excellent movie!! Thanks for sharing!!
Lovely film. Joel McCrea is tops.
Skipping past the opening theme music - this is an action- packed adventure, set in the lawless early West, with nary a dull moment! Wasn't expecting much and so it was a fun surprise for a Sunday afternoon. Where would we be without courageous heroes who stand up to evil. I fear a run-a-way women's movement has become toxic to our overall society. Our good men are the bedrock of a free society. Yes, these are the thoughts of a real woman whose "Dad" was her best ever friend and tutor. Thank you Dad, with all my heart.
Amen! My dad too!!
thanks slim
slim pickens great in all the western films pleasure watching
Awwwww, so good to see Hoss !
HAVE GOOOOOOD MOMENTS SWEET YOU🥰🥰‼ IM SO PROUD OF HOW YOU FIX THINGS IN THIS TOTALLY DIFFERENT WORLD❤🤩🤩👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽‼
Nice to see blue skies without those poisonous chemtrails. 🙂🙏
Thank you for this entertaining film.
Very good one, old one! Thanks.
Great flick!
Stage driver Slim Pickens reprized his yahoo excited ride as shown here, again in the 60s when he rode the A Bomb rodeo style to the earth over Russia in Dr. Strangelove. What a great character actor he was.
Love that scene. We sold large mufflers for large engines. Whenever one came in I would jump on it and act like slim. Yee haaa.
Slim would have loved to hear that! Good memories! @@johnblood3731
You should of seen Dan Bloçker in highschool, gentle giant damn good man. Good story to this movie not the typical stuff you usually get thank you
He went to DeKalb Texas school
At 11:22 never thought Hoss started as a bar tender 😂.. good job Hoss
Good stuff ...
Liked this film thanks for posting. The colourised version is a bit flaky so I watched it in black and white.
Very entertaining, they just don't write shows like this anymore!
Wow, DAN BLOCKER, before he became the famous HOSS CARTWRIGHT!!!
Didn't tell you what happened to the money? or the 4 bad guys with LQ Jones? But a good western for all that pleased i found it!!!
Pretty dern good.
Cracking good film but then it would be with Joel McCrea in it!
Dan blocker is the bar tender.
The set of that last scene was from the movie "Fort Petticoat" with Audie Murphy.
It had 10,000 views in 8 hours 🎉
Nice ❤❤
Dan Blocker (Hoss in Bonanza) plays the barman .
Dan Blocker before he was Hoss Cartwright in Bonanza. The director should NOT have revealed the stage robber's (Mark Stevens as Velvet Clark) identity when he uncovered his face after shooting his partner! I hate it when directors needlessly give away to the audience what is supposed to be a mystery to the characters! I'd cut that scene before the reveal if I had this in my own home video (I made my own version of Stalag 17 with such editing, it's much more intersesting for those that never saw it).
I think he was equal to the actors mentioned.
Joel McCrea allways butting in to other people's business in westerns
👍👍👍
never throw away your Winchester ,, the same rounds used in a Colt will work, if same cal. and cowboys always used the same rounds
Was I seeing things, or was that Dan Blocker I saw in a bit part?
Yes that was Dan Blocker
Lol, @1:09:02 he "plays" a few notes; but the keys his fingers were on were in the bass section, not the melody. When he sits down, his left hand is in the same area, but the notes are higher. So much for acting. Very few actors can actually play the piano, and of the few who do, they don't play near as well as the music being played to the viewers.
I think they might have used fake bullets, too. Plus, I’m not convinced that they really blew up a horse.
Christopher Plummer was an excellent piano player.
ضاع الخيط والعصفور..

OK, here is a little ditty for you folks to check out. At 1:20:57 (end of movie) if you watch just out from Joan Weldon's left ear, you might just notice a light colored automobile driving toward her .................. that is the very instant modern transportation appeared in the old West!
Ah so in the old West they did not do things gradually, including technological innovation. That day the car and long after the airplane.
When the world caught up the cowboys probably said "Took you all long enough." Local blacksmith was probably already working out nuclear fusion.

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
The two female leads look like they could be sisters.
