  • Today we're putting our 5 week-old turkeys on pasture. As well as showing how we move them, in this video I give tips for raising young turkey poults, explain our turkey shelter design, how we construct moveable fences, and how we keep the turkeys safe from airborne predators like owls.

I love your farm. I would love to do a scaled down version of it on our little 6 acres. I want to do turkeys, but so far we only have 12 chickens and three cats. We are accumulating old international tractors, too, with one Farmall 230, one Farmall cub, and three B414 diesel tractors.

how big my farm should be to raise 100 turkeys? and how big should be their coup for 100 turkeys? what are their diseases, their vaccines, and how resistant are they? I can get free spinach and coriander/cilantro and tomatoes for cheap like 35-40dollars per 1000 kilograms can I feed it to them after 2 weeks? will it give them any benefit in higher quality/quantity meat?

I think dogs & children are 10xs easier than raising turkeys! The turkeys are needy & talk a ton!! It’s a shame they’re all males! Human babies are not too seriously easy to death or sickness during the two weeks like turkeys.

Hi Tom, nice to hear from you! The only predators we have which could jump the fence are coyotes, and we've never had a problem. My guess is they approach the fence, get zapped, and that deters them. Raptors are the only predator issue we have ever had with turkeys.

I feel like people think turkey's and pretty much every production bird is way stupider then they really are. I mean don't get me wrong they are a far cry from a border collie or a Australian Shepard but the idea of them dying from rain and starving because they cant figure out how to eat is a little insane.

How do you keep your turkeys from flying away? I hatched 3 from eggs in my incubator. At 4 weeks I put them outside in a safe enclosed pen. They had access to the shed for safety through a hatch door. Next morning they were MIA. No sign of predator having gotten them. They literally flew the coop.

Tell her to please put on a long sleeve jacket or ... Be sure to clean and disinfect those scratches and use neorsporn or something similar. I fell and scratched my leg and cleaned it but didn't have neorsporn or antibiotic cream at the time. My knee got infected. It took. Several trips to doctors about a month to get rid of infection. Ugh!
