- In June 2021 we won 1997 Stewart & Stevenson LMTV M1078 at auction! This video is us picking it up and driving it for the first time from Phoenix, Arizona to Tucson.
Greetings from a fellow AZ LMTV owner. Congrats on your purchase. They are loads of fun!
Yes they are awesome vehicles and lots of fun. We drove ours to Alaska where we now reside. I’ll be posting a video of our journey this week.
Welcome! We've not had one regret, and having tons of fun.
Really cool truck, its surprising how quiet these are on the inside. The only thing that scares me with these is the electronics
Yes they are cool. The electronics scare me too. It’s working great now but always in the back of my mind that something can go wrong.
@@captainmanus Yeaaa, that's one thing about the older deuce and a half's I like, little to no electronics, but they ain't nearly as comfortable without having power steering and the NDT tires which limits them to about 45-50Mph.
The M939 I feel like is the perfect mix in between the old m35s and the LMTV. It has power steering and can be fitted with 53 inch tires comfortably, while also still being a somewhat simple truck to work on
I'm quite undecided on what I want to move with next, either get a 5 ton or LMTV or I can actually work on what I got and make the M35a2 a fairly decent truck to drive. If I had power steering and the bigger tires to accomplish 50-55 mph comfortably, I'll be more than happy
What parts have you replaced so far? Also just read an article on Jack's government surplus pretty interesting place it sounds like
I haven’t replaced many parts. Just the relay switches, new lighting control unit, and I’m about to install a hitch on it. I want to get LED headlights also.
How did you find the truck? I'm in AZ and all the trucks I find are so far away.
I got it from Sierra Auction in Phoenix, it was just a random truck they had at one of their vehicle auctions. There is also a place in Tucson called Jack's Gov't Surplus Trucks and he sells them and parts for them.
What turned out to be the issue??
The original batteries were bad and had those replaced with two 8D batteries.
It is very good
For how much ?
I paid $9500 for the truck.
any updates
