ive ordered the yeti 3000 cant wait for it as get lots of power cuts. We have solar on the house & when solar exporting power to grid I will plug in the goal zero 3000 to charge it up & use it as a back up power source instead of petrol generator.
I like that unit! Very nice. I use a GoalZero Guide 10 Plus for my bike packing/kayaking/hiking trips. I like that unit. It doesn't handle much, but it's good for the bush. Thanks for showing us.
I've been looking at the goal pro and appreciate your video. I'm definitely interested in getting one for the house as we are a coastal area and sooner or later going to need a generator. I'm more interested in keeping my refrigerator going in an extended power outage.
If you're without power for an extended period of time, you'll want at least 100-200 watt solar panel. I'm going to chain a second battery to mine very soon. You might want one of those too. Will have a video on that in a few weeks.
your "Watts In", depends on what type of charge controllers you have connected to your solar panels, if the they are PWM those are 21%-47% less efficient, meaning they charge that percentage less and lose that much charge rate when compared to MPPT charge controllers, so that 120watt solar panel set you have is experiencing major losses through the charge controllers by a large amount. It looks to me that you have two sets of charge controllers on your setup, one charge controller on each solar panel on the back or underside those may be the PWM controllers. The 1250 yeti I believe has a MPPT charge controller built into it, if that is the case the PWM controllers at the panels are the reason for the LOW watts In numbers and you Not getting anywhere near the 120watts from the panels check that by putting a meter from power direction out of the solar panels Before they go through the controller on the back of the solar panels then check watts after the controller on the panel then at the connectors end checking the watts at the length of the wires at the plug this will tell you what you need to know
Goal zero is launching a new Lithium Yeti 1400 sometime Spring 2017. It's supposed to be pretty sweet because it won a bunch of awards during Outdoor Retailer. Apparently it's half the weight of the 1250 and has twice the surge capacity. That means it's gotta be pretty close to 3000 W since the 1250 is 1500W.
4:21 Seems like there should be a "trickle charge setting" for this much money. You should be able to set your output if you are idle charging I'd think.
hi- nice comprehensive demo- Goal Zero states the Yeti 1250 can power anything in the home- including a refrigerator- If this is true- Can you charge your Yeti 1250 and make a new video demonstrating how long a fully charged battery will power the fridge until needing re-charging?
I have 12 30w panel on the ground with home made legs that runs my 1250 and two 350 plus I build two two hundred amp solar generator with two xantrex 2000 inverter with two 100w solar panels and it works nice .
Only not as good comment about 30 feet solar extension wire look something like 14 gauge that will increases some loss from solar panels to your Yeti. By adding more solar panels, you needed 10 gauge extension wire, you'll see the difference.
The longer the cables.... the less voltage you draw in.... shorter cables will give you more input amps..... learned that in electrical class (auto mech)
Thanks! I assume your solar panels are two 120W (total 240W) right? How long will those panels charge a fully drained Yeti Battery? How many 100ah AGM batteries can I add on the Yeti 1250? Lastly, where did you buy that 02 Cool fan. I want to get one of those. Thanks again.
try to test this 14AWG cable. the mc4 max hold 14awg 30A. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07D7JQQ34/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1527061370&sr=8-11&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=mc4+to+anderson+adapter
if you had your time over again would you buy this again? Have you tried additional panels and batteries yet to reduce charging times? It seems to me like this thing takes too long to charge up? Might just buy two 240w panels a controller and inverter and do it that way..
+TechStories79 120 Watts is not enough for sure, should have bought the 240 Watt panels. The battery is only 100 ah which isn't enough either. These guys got a 300 Watt solar panel and a 155 ah battery, but watch their video: ruclips.net/video/ZEdSlte3EtM/видео.html It's so much more work, way more complicated than just buying a complete unit.
I dont have to replace my car battery every two year which is regularly charged by the alternator. If he regularly charge his yeti the same should be true
Wow, I'm glad I read your post. Do read carefully about my next statement and read up before you test this out. There are some great videos out there regarding this next topic I'm about to discuss. My portable drill's battery went dead, so I plugged it in after not using it for some time (over a year at least). The battery would not hold a charge. So I got my adapter with voltage adapter for multiple device charging out that had a voltage regulator build into it (a regulator that I modified by adding positive and negative alligator clips onto it). I hooked it to my battery's prongs, clip touches, until it sparked like the youtube video guy said to do... and my batter took the charge. Something about how these rechargeable batteries are made to not last so you have to buy another one. Well this method did something to the battery and now it works fine and saved myself 60 bucks by not throwing the battery away (recycling rather). The guy I watched was an obvious electrician or engineer. So research and save yourself some cash.
Does the O2 fan still show as 0 watts pulling? Also, if i want to run a 500 watt LED light off a fully charged yeti 1250, how long do u think it will last?
Pardon my asking but will an induction cooktop rated at 1200W work on this too cook for an hour? If not, can I buy a car battery to augment the wattage? I saw on one of their videos that they have an adapter to connect to a regular battery but it was not mentioned if it can take the load. Thanks!
+Easy Johnny ; You would need to setup another battery in parallel to get an hour's worth of cooking using a 1200w cooktop; with the one unit (1250 Yeti battery) you might get 30 minutes and that is just the time it takes the cooker to heat up.
+Easy Johnny I agree with Raymond Brown - there's no way this would run an induction cooktop long enough. I have been thinking about getting a second battery with about double the capacity of the one in the goal zero and getting some of these adapters: ruclips.net/video/p0oF0VkGmf4/видео.html What I don't know yet is if the battery you connect the Yeti to will charge up when the yeti is charging. I suspect not, but when I find out, I'll let you know.
+ray bon Depends totally on the drill but I believe it can recharge a cordless drill as fast as your household wall socket and your drill will run as long as it ran if charged from your household wall socket.
No kidding. If you, ever get a drill, try it. And ,post it be awesome. I saw a few videos, where a guy ran a humidifier , a fridge from the yeti 1250. I want to buy a yeti, 400. Put it on my bike run a drill to power my bicycle. See if it works without the drill breaking....lloll. I saw that same guy run a blender, with two 150 panels, and mildly sunny with 85 watts, coming in.
..there a few on you tube...soon as I can find a a corded drill or cordless that i think?... won't burn after one hour use , then I'm going to try it. Tired of gasoline, don't care how cheap it gets..lloll.
+ray bon just watched some - one old guy - hilarious. he'd only get a few miles with a cordless battery on the drill so corded to a bigger battery might work but it'll be heavy. I rode a Felt Sport e bike last summer at a shop and it was amazing. You pedal and it gives you a wicked boost, stop pedaling, no boost, very slick, but very expensive: feltelectric.com/usa/?page_id=48 You'd be faster than on any road bike out there.
Could you use this to Augment your House hold power? i mean wouldnt running this thing all the time damage it? also what is the maximum power out put? i was thinking of useing one of thease as a APC for my computer but my computer it rated for like 1200watts would that burn this thing out .... also if i had sunlight could this provide power for my computer to keep it off the grid?
+Viper4kPlayground - I think using it on a daily basis I've heard it will last only about 18 months as its a lead battery. The 'Lion energy l-1500' uses a lithium battery which could last up to 5 years! Slightly more expensive but more economical on the long run I would say.
+Haris L The fan does run on batteries but I had removed them and it still registered 0 watts so I suspect it's using less than 1 full watt to run, very efficient.
Freddy Medina I had my Yeti for 2 years. It worked well for a few months and appropriately charged. Now it cannot hold a charge at all. So disappointed and broke. Get another brand Hope this information saves you $$$
William Ying By an inverter for cigarette socket and plug house charger from 1250 into that. That will pull about 70 to 80 watts from the cigarette socket and should be fine.
Wondering if you use a car battery if you could get the same results. I'm not a battery scientist so looking forward to some yelling and screaming by all the know-it-all's out there.
I fucking build me one with two 125ah AGM batteries, a 400 amp charge controller, a 3000w pure sine inverter and a solar charge controller in a nice enclosure for $1000. My setup has a 3000 watt output while the yeti has only 1250 and cost $500 more.
everyones works but mine.gonna send it back!piece of fucking shit!! Im charging a laptop, phone and serius radio, thats it. does not work. after over 2000 dollars im just fucked. powerful products says send it back, im on the road. what the fuck ???i have 12 volt outlet and the usb working thats it.plug checker says open ground, and i cant figure it out.??any sugestions??
John Coffey I don't know but I would contact Goal Zero directly if you haven't already. I broke mine testing it on various devices and their customer support was fantastic. I ended up sending mine back at their expense and they sent me another unit. But first they stepped me through several things to try, none of which worked. New unit has been perfect.
John Coffey I have the same problem. My Yeti, Extreme 350, and 2 smaller compact versions suck eggs. One blew up while charging and NONE OF them can hold a charge. Don't buy this. ☹️😫
I used to go that way for many many years in nothing bigger than a Honda Element, but I'm older now and retired and want to do longer trips (month or two at a time instead of a weekend or week at a time) and want to eat better than I used to so having something to power a cooler is very helpful. Did the ice in a cooler thing for years and this is way more convenient.
BTW - I still want to do some canoe camping and backpacking where I'll have no modern conveniences. Have 3 trips like that planned for 2017. Oh - and one minor one for next weekend. "Winter" camping in weather that looks like it's going to be quite warm. LOL
what a ripoff. You got about $750 of stuff for over $2000. Also, comparing your Crap Zero to an actual installed 300 watt MPPT solar system is ridiculous. You have an expensive toy in comparison.
ive ordered the yeti 3000 cant wait for it as get lots of power cuts. We have solar on the house & when solar exporting power to grid I will plug in the goal zero 3000 to charge it up & use it as a back up power source instead of petrol generator.

Excellent. Thanks for the review. I'm considering using the same for my van conversion.
Very Helpful!
I've been looking at the goal pro and appreciate your video. I'm definitely interested in getting one for the house as we are a coastal area and sooner or later going to need a generator. I'm more interested in keeping my refrigerator going in an extended power outage.

I am looking into this unit, and you gave a really good review on it! Please do some more videos on your vans progress!
Will wait YETI 2400
can't blame you there. They need a version with Lithium batteries and 200 Ah.
Goal zero is launching a new Lithium Yeti 1400 sometime Spring 2017. It's supposed to be pretty sweet because it won a bunch of awards during Outdoor Retailer. You need 240 watts panel to keep the 1250 fully charged with a lot of sun.
240 would be better but 120 is doing quite well now that I have these mounted on the roof of my van
I have 12 30w panel on the ground with home made legs that runs my 1250 and two 350 plus I build two two hundred amp solar generator with two xantrex 2000 inverter with two 100w solar panels and it works nice .

at Black Cat 2 - at least people are now starting to prepare for a black out by using solar powered lithium batteries like the Goal Zero Yeti.
The longer the cables.... the less voltage you draw in.... shorter cables will give you more input amps..... learned that in electrical class (auto mech)
that is so true plus it's also cheaper as you have to spend less on wire to do your system up
You could by a lot of fuel for $2200.
Solar prices need to come down to make it economical for average people to use without government subsidies.
Ohh yeah another question is a very low power skillet for cooking fish bacon eggs. ??...
As any battery charges it will draw less and less power from the solar cells. I have the Yeti 1400 for earthquake prone CA.
I like the product but I hate the price
If you go to the Goal Zero and buy the Yeti 1250, then go to Ebay and pick up some solar panels, you would have saved a LOT of money.
Good idea!
1,200 at Costco on line for the same model and same panels.
goal zero yeti 6000x lithium portable power station test it out
the Red/Black cable is too much thin, use 2* 6 or 8 qmm , then you see much more Solar input ;)
Yeh, I've thought it was way too thin. Unfortunately too much work to change now that they are permanently mounted on the roof.
youre thin 0.75 mm red&black cables can maximal 50-70 Watt. then cables goes hot ;)
try to test this 14AWG cable. the mc4 max hold 14awg 30A.

I believe mine came with something like a 30' long cable and it worked fine.
Do you need a Y adapter solar cable to add more panels in parallel?
@@daniel51404 That's a good question. I would write to Goal Zero and ask them. I really don't know what would happen if you used a Y-cable.
Would you please let me know what they say? Please.
