Prom 2004 was my senior prom so talk about nostalgia! My dress was somewhere between A line and ball gown and was a strapless corset top. It had the most unique color though; purple with a strong gold iridescence. I loved it! We went bowling after prom before all staying the night at my boyfriend’s house. Us girls looked insane! A couple girls legit bowled in their dresses! I changed into matching shirts that my best friend made us with glitter paint and Soffe shorts 😂
Oh prom... So we did the same kind of dress thing or at least a very similar one at our small town in California. you always knew which girl was another's bestie by the dress color, because you and your best friend would choose your dress color for that year's prom then have varying degrees of different styles but always identical colors! 04 Junior year we chose a deep Caribbean-esque teal, my high school bestie had the fittesd sequin bodice with the ginormous tulle princess skirt, but of course I thought I was cool and different from all the other girls (cringe) so since everyone was doing pouffy dresses in those years mine was a long fitted gown with a really beautifully intricately beaded the top with a long high slit up one leg and the straps were of course spaghetti, but did the classic 2000s v shape out from the center. Lol and so funny you mention the one random lime green dress.. I actually just a couple days ago came across pictures of myself before a senior prom. I too was a tan girl (on the outside, still emo on the inside!) I ended up with the coolest hair stylist for that prom and since she and I both were emo at heart she gave me the best updo I've ever had like I'd wear it to this day. It was curls but bigger than the classic tiny ringlets then she turned them into a faux hawk of curls. I actually went to senior prom ('05) out of town with a guy from a different school like an hour away and I knew no one which was so intimidating on the inside but I rocked that lime green dress and rocker chic updo so hopefully no one would know how scared I was (LOL classic teen outward overconfidence to mask the inner insecurity) but damn did that lime green gain me a lot of random friends for the night, my look was so different from everyone else there that it made people want to talk to me. And I too can still feel the pain of taking out the updo, both physical and emotional LOLI love how you truly capture highschool/early college life in the early aughts perfectly.. from your small town in the Midwest to my small town in California, it was still damn near-identical for all of us 😂
I went to my senior prom equivalent in 2014, in the UK it’s called a leaver’s ball. We got around the dresses being the same issue by having a Facebook group where we posted photos of our dresses. Basically after a girl posted her dress it would’ve been a bit of a faux pas to get the same one, unless you had it already on accident, then it was ok. And it was quite fun too because all the girls hyped each other up saying the dresses would look great on them haha it was kind of sweet 😆
Okay the fact that my quinceñera grown would’ve been appropriate for your prom gets me. I had a hoop skirt and two petticoats under my dress for the poof factor. I had lots of lace and beading including lace off the shoulder trumpet sleeves. I never went to prom because social anxiety and was not about do the gown and dressing up again after my quince. Haha. But man I loved seeing all the prom fashion in my small Midwest town.
I went to prom twice both during my senior year 🙃 I wore a big pink and flowery poofy dress with a half-updo for my school’s prom bc that’s what we all did in my hometown, but when I went to my bf’s school’s prom 2 hours away in the same getup, all of the girls at his school had their hair just straightened with regular spaghetti strapped dresses … I felt a bit embarrassed 🫠
I miss Harajuku Lovers Love by Gwen Stefani. I still have the original bottle with a tiny bit left…I can’t bring myself to ever use it. I have never seen anything remotely close to it.
I wore a short white dress to my 2010 senior prom and went to MAC to get my makeup done and got my hair professionally curled lol. I loved going to get makeup done at MAC lmao. The lip glasses were everything. The amount of makeup I wore was surprisingly not special occasion only for me lmao. I literally wore that same amount of makeup to school everyday and still do wear a lot😂. I wore a short spaghetti strap white lace dress. All the girls at my school wore their hair down and curled like me and we wore short dresses year round to all dances, but we lived in OC, so like the Laguna Beach girls, we made sure to wear short dresses because it’s hot at whatever venue we had our dances at in the county unless we had it at a venue at a hotel by the beach. The girl in charge of dinner plans was a junior and she didn’t make reservations so we ended up eating at the mall food court because the restaurants were all obviously super busy on a Saturday. She got married last month so I hope she planned that better 😂 Btw glue-on fake nails are the best. I wear clear ones that I paint.
In our city all of the stores at the mall would have registration for dresses and the high school that the person went to so if you went to the store and you like to dress, they would check to see if anybody else from your high school purchase the same one. That’s how we avoided ending up with doubles..
I knew how dated the big dresses and updos would look so I did my hair down in soft curls (used a photo of Lindsay Lohan) and wore a replica of the How to Lose a Guy in 10 days dress. The whole look would work today. I stand out in the group photos.
So, was the prom in April 2004 or April 2005? I'm c/o 2005 and I do recall the Homecoming Court sash saying _Homecoming Court 2004_ however we were seniors graduating the following June 2005.
High school was a difficult time for me I was a foot shorter than the girls 40 lb overweight with crooked yellow teeth and a bad case of gas the ugliest girl in school would not give me the time of day so predictably I played with myself a lot and over time went blind
