      @@no23mk2 Craig, here is a run down of where I am so far. I have a rolling chassis of the tender and some of the tank is done. On the loco, the main fame is fully riveted, all wheels, axles bearings completed, coupling rods almost fully completed. Plus I have loads of parts are ready to be bolted on to the frame, I basically bought every part for the 9F from Malcolm high at Model Engineers laser, so spent quite a bit of time silver soldering all of the parts together, actually worked out ok.
      Over the last 2 weeks I have finally machined the cylinder blocks and all covers, just doing the Rear valve guides which are proofing to be a pain, I am using the Blackgates castings, they are not a good as lost wax castings which you used. Looks like I will need to make a turnover fixture soon as its getting a bit heavy.
      Still not decided on completing as Evening Star or 92134 or possibly one on the 9F's that worked the Shotton iron ore line. Keep up the great work with the vids.

I trust your loco is going well?

    Hi Craig, great to see progress on your 9F....I eventually got the overhaul of my own finished and got a few runs in before having a knee op. in October!
    Just a thought for the future....if you intend fitting a working steam chest pressure gauge in the cab, you could provide for a take-off from one of the main steam pipes at this stage. The real thing had a pipe from the RH steam chest to the exhaust injector, with the pressure gauge tee’d into that.
    All the best for 2021! Don

    What is the compression fitting on the top part of the superheater for?
    I'm searching high and low for the answer. 😂

    • @no23mk2
      @no23mk2  Год назад +1

      The fitting is for a pipe that is connected to the snifting valve. This is to prevent the superheater elements and lubrication oil from overheating when the regulator is shut. It allows ambient air into the steam passages.

    • @no23mk2
      @no23mk2  4 года назад

      Thank you and a good question. Firstly I have a deep interest in railways and mechanical engineering. Also as Robert says, looking forward to seeing it run and the satisfaction of achieving that goal. It is also very absorbing and takes you away from the everyday world. However, in a strange way I'm not looking forward to the day of completion. I receive most of my motivation knowing it is there to do and knowing that every piece is going to be a learning opportunity. I consider every component to be a model in itself so the project is full of 'little achievements' if you get my drift. I suppose its all about the journey rather than the destination...maybe?
      Cheers Craig

    Super looking work! Is the superheater a radiant one? I was going to go with stainless steel but yours looks superb and I may well do something similar for a replacement on my 5" Jubilee. Thank you for sharing.

    • @no23mk2
      @no23mk2  2 года назад

      Sorry for the late response.... It is not a radiant superheater. After consulting a mate of mine with extensive steam experience, both model and full size, I decided against that method for two reasons. Firstly, radiant superheaters suffer an intense environment which can limit their longevity and more importantly they shield the firebox crown plate from the radiant heat. The crown plate is where a very significant amount of the heat transfers to the water. Cheers Craig.
