  • This is the maiden voyage of Tom Maruska's freshly restored 1964 Amphicar. It's a car...and it's also a boat! Tom invited me to join him for this inaugural "swim" in his amphibious Amphicar on a lake near Duluth, Minnesota on September 26, 2023.
Tom took his Amphicar for a first solo outing, then I joined him for a second voyage. What a unique thrill! Thanks to Tom's pal Jim for sharing the video he recorded from a pontoon in the lake which I combined with my footage.
The lower rear seat cushion was removed for this maiden voyage so Tom could inspect the hull to check for water leaks and verify correct operation of the transmission which drives the wheels and two propellors. The cabriolet has a soft top which is concealed by a snap-on boot.
Amphicar Model 770's were manufactured in Germany from 1961-65, and marketed from 1961-68. Total production was 3,678, and approximately 3,000 were sold in the USA for $2,800. Flawlessly restored Amphicars such as this one command prices well into 6 figures.
Tom Maruska has restored several classic cars to the highest possible standards. In 2022 Tom completed the restoration and resurrection of the one and only 1956 Mercury XM-Turnpike Cruiser "Dream Car" vimeo.com/764824051

Kinda wish you had asked a few of the 97 questions I immediately thought of. 😊

Howdy sir, off-topic but here's this rare logo aired that syndicated prints of Norman Lear shows had. That being the TAT Communications Company logo.
Now that you were a videotape editor of the program, do you have by chance any tapes of the show prints with the logo in it?
Though if you don't, do you remember how the logo played? Thank you.

I don't recall the TAT logo, but I may have an old Betamax tape of an episode of a TAT show I edited. I'll take a look when I have time, maybe not soon, but I made a note to self to check.
